Crystal Palace 3-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

If he loses the next three what do we think happens?
He will get the benefit of the doubt in the next 2 from the club. Unless we are whacked 7+ (possible that happens).

Losing at Luton and its game up. If not it gets nasty if Villa do us at Molineux (very likely they do)

We were the better side first half but that’s an extremely low bar to set. It was a poor game of football.
As said this a problem when you accumulate lots of average Jo’s and 1/5 performers.
Very brittle mentality in the squad when things start going south. Happened v BHA and today.
With Liverpool next which I’m almost writing off we’ll be in an identical position as we were last season.
The sad fact is the outcome today was very predictable, only surprising factor is we scored twice.
We’ve got a terrible combo of looking ponderous and predictable going forward and able to concede at a moment’s notice.
This is a potential recipe for disaster a manager who today got everything in game wrong and players who are not great or not able to produce often enough collectively.

Luton is absolutely huge now and it didn't need to be.

I never ever want to see Kilman and Dawson together again. Unless you play the lowest block in the world it doesn't work.

Even as a crappy amateur centre forward who's 42 and gone to seed a bit, I'd bloody love to play against Captain Wow. Take your time. Do what you like. Easiest opponent you could ask for.

[QUOTE="Aikiwolf, post:

Credit to GoN he's managed to A) remove movement and structure from our game B) made us worse with every game he's been in charge C) made terrible subs today which handed Palace the win.
[/QUOTE]
Yep, he sure has removed any element of movement from our game that had been disturbingly prominent against Rennes. Ah, Rennes, how innocent I was…

If we keep getting meaningless goals at the dead end of stoppage time that might (dumbly) save him.

If it's three "to nil" losses I doubt he's sacked but people might actually turn in the stadium.

Yeah, that’s what I mean really. If we lose to Luton after them two, it’s looking very bleak

We are very disjointed. We can play the ball and keep possession fairly well but in both boxes we are appalling. What is alarming is that despite the paucity of goals we score, it's actually in our own box where I think we are worse. So many players lack either concentration, composure, or both. Kilman is a liability. Every single game he costs us. Without fail. Fabio is never gonna make it, Sasa has to start as CF with Cunha playing as a number 10. I couldn't for the life of me work out why Cunha was playing further forward than Silva. We seem to be able to work the ball into promising positions and then unerringly choose the wrong option or fluff the chance. None of this is new though. Can it be corrected? I'm not sure. Is O'Neil the man to correct it? It doesn't look promising.

Not much to add except Kilman is wank and I'm increasing frustrated with Sarabia, he doesn't seem to add much to our game at all. We're very static in general but Sarabia is just so 'nothing' whenever I see him.

If we lose the next three league games 3-0 he’d be gone I think

We were ok but Palace just stepped it up at points and we had Sa to thank for it not being 5-2.

Up front despite two fine headed goals we were poor and unimaginative.

It we do go down, the club scouts have it on their heads. Needed a clinical striker for two years now.
Lots of clubs want a better striker but it seems to me that our problem is how we tend to slow / stop playing when we reach the box. We literally stop the ball more times than not instead of throwing it in the box like Palace did for their first goal. If strikers are expecting quick service, they'll take the gamble of trying to get on the end of it. Instead, we try to walk the ball into goal.

Also, we had 3 or 4 opportunities to hit the ball just outside the box, not once did we try. I remember Ian Greaves, when he was our manager, making all players have pops at goal from 30 yards in training fairly regularly. As a result, we scored more goals from that distance. We just don't do it anymore and we only ever had the odd Neves wonderstrike in the last few years to go on.

We've pretty much changed our playing staff in the last 12 mths but the same issue remains. Start scoring goals when we are dominant and a lot of our issues disappear.

Agreed. He makes this place more toxic than any other poster and is continually allowed to do it.

Mental that I can't talk about our manager on a thread about one of his new players, but it's fine for the latest verdict thread to be a verdict on Johnny rather than the game :D

Don't think we'll be that lucky/unlucky, pending your perspective.

But I think I agree, if it's all scoreless losses giving up 3+, that's pretty untenable.

It’s one post. And also it is being sorted separately.

As I said before: stop trolling. You’re better than that.

Has to beat Luton and avoid defeat to Villa, puts him on about 7 from 8 and just bobbing above water.
Just waiting for the “it’s been a tough start at home” ok so you then need to beat Everton, Luton and draw at Palace. Draws at home to BHA are not out the question to.

What's most worrying for me, is that we look like all a half-decent team has to do is go up a gear and we ship goals for fun.

Gotta stop being so easy to beat, that's what will be (rightly) going through the manager's head for the next two weeks, I reckon we'll see some big changes against Liverpool, and I'm not sure it'll be pretty

Regardless of scoreline if we lose to Luton things are getting untenable. No chance are we getting anything from Liverpool or Man City which would put us on 6 losses from our first 7. Considering our start there is a serious risk we get cut adrift, we have two winnable fixtures between now and November.

Really disappointing overall. Tactically felt like GON's worst game.

It was boring for large patches but at least we were in it, certainly in first half our midfield dominated the game (particularly Lemina), but we had no attacking threat. What had happened to the Cunha we was during the ManUtd game? If we had him that first half could've been very different. At least his late game header goal should show Dawson not to get in the way again.

Better than Fabio at least, who's only good contribution was being an OL blocker so Hwang could have an uncontested sheader - his knack for just scoring is somewhere between D.Edwards and Podence.

Our defence was at error for most of their goals, both Kilman and Dawson missed crucial intercepts or let their man go, I think Kilman gets the most ire because he wears an armband despite showing no ability to lead. But even Lemina had a few crucial errors in those goals and he was our best player.

Sa had his howlers they should have scored from, but at least kept out some good shots so not the worst today.

Sueno and Heuno need to come in against Luton and other than starting (edit, fuck me) *Sasha* I don't know how you'd fix the forwards tbh.
