Crystal Palace 3-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

To be fair I did thank him for a response after going for the wolf of Wall Street f bomb record…

Gary O’Neil “Not a game I thought we were in danger of losing to be honest. I thought we were the better side and we lacked some punch.”

Didn't take him long to go full Lage

3 assists for Neto so far this season.

3 headed (well 2 shouldered) goals.
He's a bit perplexing. Seems to have one good cross a game but his runs into the box and 1v1s are predictable. More incisive Neto of yore would've run rings around Ward today. Still seems to be our best winger, which is an overall worry.

Well we weren't until the white flag of the Traore for Silva substitute.

Sort the finishing out, learn to defend and get the midfield to stop dwelling on the ball and giving it away and we're top 10.

Oh and fuck Sa off!

I hate how we've seemingly been neutered offensively. I thought during pre season and vs United we looked solid defensively (despite having easily the worst CB pairing in the league) pressed intelligently and were dynamic in attack with multiple players capable of carrying the ball forwards and disrupting the oppositions rest defence.

Now there's no interchanging of positions in offensive areas which in theory makes us harder to break down but in reality makes us predictable and easy to nullify. I hate how Gomes is being asked to play, technical ability ≠ creativity. He's a superb ball winner and has the ability to progress play from deep, he should not be asked to be our most creative outlet in central positions.

Fábio & Cunha doesn't work as a pair, at least it doesn't the way it's currently set up. You want Cunha receiving the ball in space with the time to turn and commit defenders and Fábio playing within the width of the 6 yard box to pounce on loose balls and crosses into the box. Today Cunha stayed high and Fábio dropped into a 4-1-4-1 block out of possession which negates both of their strengths.

Semedo is Semedo, we're stuck with him with Doherty as the alternative but Aït-Nouri over Bueno is a joke atm. No offensive output, in a team as rooted to their positions as we are his progressive carries are basically rendered useless and defensively he's all over the place. At least Bueno has a good delivery from wide positions. As O'Neil has turned us into a team that depends on set pieces and hopeful crosses we might as well play him instead. He's just as bad defensively but at least he might cause a few problems with his delivery from deep.

Kilman & Dawson is the worst CB pairing in the league. Teams like Luton & Sheffield United try to counteract their weaknesses at CB by playing a back 3 and I fear we might be forced into the same decision. Dawson is 7 years older than Kilman, and he looks it, but you'd never know it from the way Max moves. Rejecting the Napoli bid might have been the worst decision we've ever made and where player trading is concerned we've made some serious mistakes.

José Sá... Why is he still our #1? I was done with him a year ago. Apparently Rui Patrício was in the crowd today, we'd have been better off with him in goal.

Gary O'Neil has no business being manager of our football club. He's a fucking charlatan.

A lot to agree with in your post but no need to resort to homophobic insults... 😜

PS I know it's a typo. Probably.

That was pretty grim, 2 cack sides, Palace slightly less cack than us.
Thought we played ok first half without creating any clear cut chances. Lemina in particular dominated the midfield assisted by Gomes.
Didn't think Silva or Cunha got into the game much at all, maybe one or two surges by Cunha.
Our decision making and final ball in the attacking 3rd are very poor. Not sure why we need so many pointless passes when we get the opposition turned round. Palace were incisive with their passing for their goals, we rarely do that.
After we equalised, I thought we would go on and put pressure on them but it had the opposite effect, not helped by replacing an (ineffective) striker with a midfielder. We definitely needed more energy as both Lemina and Gomes tired and lost the midfield but the substitution was bizarre.
Looking a bit ominous atm, we're hoping Doyle and Bellegarde can step up but that's a lot to ask of young, inexperienced players.
