I interpreted that as him saying that Wolves are better than their league position shows and players have to bear the responsibility for that. If they had performed as they are doing now 5 months ago we'd have a chance of not going down. I don't see it as unprofessional, him saying that.

That's exactly what he's saying. Managers don't normally speak about other teams like that especially with such a loaded phrase.
