Wolves 1-2 Fulham: Verdict Thread

I thought Rayan Aït-Nouri was awful last night as well. He doesn't seem to catching much flack yet but it's fast reaching the stage with him where I wouldn't be too upset to see him leave.
Starting to feel the same.

Such a poor evening. Hugely frustrated with those basic errors as, well structured as they were, that was a game we could have won but for poor defending. Turns out Djiga was a mistake - real disappointment.

R Gomes would have made a difference yesterday, I would have put Lima on and shifted Semedo across.

I really like RAN but sometimes we just need a bit of pace and directness.

Why is Djiga a mistake? He’s played like 5 mins?

Because we needed a defender to drop straight into the starting lineup and improve us, for games like yesterday. If (and it’s a big one) he’s going to need until the end of the season to get up to speed then we e could have bought someone better then, at the start of pre-season.

He’s already failed to start, barely played, in 25% of the games we had before us when he joined.

He was signed as an RCB though I assume, I guess VP doesn’t want an inexperienced player next to car crash Bueno.

Edit - equally none of that makes HIM a mistake, you could argue the signing was a mistake perhaps but I don’t think most would have been saying that if Agbadou were still playing.

Experience is pointless if you lack capabilities like Doc does.
The poor summer has made it pretty essential for players incoming need to hit the ground running. Even with agbadou fit it would leave the back 3 in no position to carry someone.
Like Bastien and Forbes these players were bought in and are clearly not ready/ not good enough. As a club we simply can’t afford a squad with loads of project players.

Said it last night but fair play to Vítor for making us competitive with some of the shite available to him at the moment.

Doherty
Bueno
Munetsi
Doyle

All absolutely rancid and have no business at this level but players who he can, to an extent, 'hide' in a structured system and make the best of as he's a serious football manager. That's half your team though! Then there's proven players who will naturally drop their performances in some games (Cunha, Semedo, RAN all did last night) or experienced professionals who come on and put in the type of abysmal performance that Sarabia did last night.

A real lack of options as well when you look at a bench that included untested youngsters like Alfie Pond, Matheus Mane and Pedro Lima, Boubacar Traoré and Jørgen Strand-Larsen coming back from injury and the outright failure of £10M Sam Johnstone.

Obviously last night was a frustrating watch against a team who did a very professional, high quality defensive job but to have us in the position we're in already... To even be competitive in these games... Definitely impressive IMO.

OK, the signing was a mistake. I do get your logic as to why VP isn’t playing him. But so long as he’s not starting I think it’s a mistake. Not the concept of signing him, but the outcome. He’s got to be starting ahead of Doc.

I don’t think Forbs is a project player, just a poor signing. Having young players with genuine potential to come through is a good thing.

I’ve edited my comment as it should’ve said not good enough which he probably isn’t.
Having a couple in the squad is fine but to many just leaves you short.
If you look at the squad we probably have Lima, R Gomes, Bastien, Forbes and Dijjga who are neither ready or can only be introjected here and there.
Combine this with Johnstone, Doc, Santi, Doyle, Sarabia, Guedes, Hwang. Around 12 players who either can’t produce week in week out or are just below standard.
It’s why we’re in the mess we’re in if all on the second list plus Forbes weren’t here next season I’d be more than happy.

I only remember one piece of real quality from RAN when he got through and turned and shot which was blocked, too often dithers and slow to react. Probably kiss of death but I haven't seen any drop off when Rodrigo plays there.

That's 23 players currently on our books who I wouldn't miss if they weren't Wolves players when the transfer window closes next summer.

I'm still really annoyed by the lack of intensity last night - especially after such a good result at the weekend.

Speaks volumes when the loudest the crowd were in the 2nd half was when Raul came on.

Honestly, I've seen more movement in a buffet queue in an old people's home.

Yeah but we won’t move on 50% of them but will lose the last bits of genuine quality.
I don’t want to be a merchant of doom but whatever happens between now and May next season already is looking grim.
If we go down it’s a major rebuild if we stay up we lose our last genuine game changer.
Both scenarios really heavily on Hobbs and his gang getting things spot on.

Once again, i think there is far too much pissing and moaning about a defeat. They happen, and Fulham played well, we didn't.

So many aspects of our game are better than they were a few weeks ago, so whilst obviously no one is happy when we lose, I'm not going to lose too much sleep about it.

We are going to stay up.

It's just demoralising to see us play with absolutely no ideas whatsoever (especially if Cunha isn't firing on all cylinders).

We probably will stay up because Vitor has managed to get as much out of this pretty beige squad as anyone could, but the medium to long term outlook remains bleak.

Especially when combined with the lethargy off the pitch as well. I don't go very often because Shi has priced me out, but the difference last night compared to a year or two back is alarming. Everyone just seemed bored.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest we'll 'kick on' next season.

Right people are pointing out the problems that still exist and haven’t gone away. Even if we stay up next season looks bleak again.
Fulham were functional and defended well.
13 home games and 9 defeats this season will leave most the fanbase a bit disgruntled.
Let’s not hide behind the fact it was a big opportunity missed to say to Ipswich you need to claw back 8 points in just 12 games.
