Tottenham 2-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I must have muted or blocked the right accounts as I've not seen anyone slating Strand Larsen. I wasn't 100% sure about what we'd got after the first few games but you'll struggle to get much better output (as a bottom half side) than having one striker on 10 and one on 7 at this stage. I think even when he's not having the best game his size and work rate occupy defenders enough to provide others space, some of his goals have been really smart finishes and he gets across defenders really well at times too.

Normally I'd look at the keeper (near stick and not really close range) but I think it's hit that well, you'd struggle to save it.
The money should've been on a tap in across the box but R. Gomes may have been ruled offside from RANs through ball?

Also, what an assist from RAN. Didn't get to watch the game but the highlights showed us looking very solid even with what is probably our worst defence ever since being promoted.

Yeah, I was a bit critical of him in the Utd game, going offside and not holding the ball as well as I'd hoped but then when I watched again after on telly he did pretty well really against Maguire and Co.

I was really frustrated with RAN yesterday, he got in to loads of situations where the final decision let him down yet he got the assists for both goals.🙃
Think that's what you get with that type of player. I wonder if Vitor will try and use him in a similar style to Cunha during his ban or will he go for a different system all together.

After the diabolical start to the season with Gary 'it's someone else's fault' O'Neil, I would have been happy with a point at Leicester (I know, glass half empty), happy with a point against Utd and happy with a point against Spurs just to stop the rot. 7 points from those 3 is fantastic and Vitor really has made a difference. A little bit of 'new manager bounce' but mostly a competent manager who has given them belief and a system.

I thought overall we played well, the second half we pushed for the equaliser and nearly got caught on the counter a couple of times. I'm still not sure where Bellegarde is meant to play? What's his best position? I thought he was pretty rubbish in a side that performed well. Ait-Nouri's pass for Larsen and the timing of his run were both excellent. We never really put Forster under too much pressure when we had oportunities to shoot (thinking Ait-Nouri should have shot first time).

Sa had a couple of 'Sa moments', but his penalty save was good (even if Son put it close to him at a good height). Saying that, I thought the penalty was soft.

*edit* - I was really, REALLY annoyed and spitting feathers at their equaliser. Another goal conceded from a set-piece.

Well I was there - still gutted after over 52 years as Wolves were the better team.
I was also there at both legs. Still rankles after all these years.

I recall the multiple disappointments.

Couldn't get to any of the previous away games but was at every home game. The excitement - and the anticipation of - beating these foreign teams with their exotic names and reputations was immense.

Only to get to the final and be playing Spurs. First disappointment.

And yes, we were pretty much the better team over the two legs of the final. Second disappointment

Next disappointment - the achievement of getting to that final was very quickly forgotten and overlooked in the following years. Almost certainly, because it had been two English teams in the Final.

I still think that we'd have won the trophy if we'd been playing a foreign team.

Obviously not the most logical claim to make but there was a momentum and an atmosphere in all of the previous legs that was palpable.

I had the impression that the team, the manager and the whole club saw it as their chance to prove that they were as good as the 'golden years' team(s). I don't think the players and Manager ever really got the recognition they deserved.

We all know Fosun are the major problem here and you could say Shi's hands are tied too in that respect (doesn't stop him being a patronising, interfering, no-nothing twat)

But until we get new owners, the management (both coaching and senior) need scrutiny and accountability also. You can still do a good job within strict parameters.

I wouldn't mind if Hobbs was a quiet figure in the background but he's bolshy and arrogant and can get to fuck as much as GON and Jeff
I'm not 100% sure fosun are the biggest issue. They are if they persist with Shi, but I'm hopeful a new chair with a smarter footballing mindset would be a more effective middle man.

I completely agree with you.
There are some in the sb who dissent tho. Heard a few labelling him as a donkey. I feel that's more due to earlier tactics tbh, and time will show we have a decent striker, possibly more.

Related, cunha is playing a lot deeper now. RAN is often more advanced than cunha, enabling cunha to run at the opposition midfield & defence. If he & RAN can start linking, a lot of teams will struggle to contain our left hand side imo.

I like that strand is now putting himself about against opposition defenders since Vic came in. He's a big lad and it's good to see him use it, he is adding more control to his knockbacks. I think his best is yet to come. Yummeeee.

Been quite impressed with Larsen - he's not at Raul level, but he's by far the best no. 9 striker we've signed in 6 years. I would bloody well expect we make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Raul Jimenez?

He played in Atletico Madrid and are wtf player... not have good numbers, i remember Atletico sell he to Benfica (Benfica its my second team, because part of my family its portuguese) and he doesnt is really good.

Larsen is more young, started playing good with 23 year old in a good league like a Liga (13 goals without penaltis), now are playing a Premiun league with 24 years old and he score 7 goals in 18 games (witout penaltis too).

It's more hard integrate in one big league with 23 years old if you view the numbers of Raul he only score two times +10 goals in the last 10 years he played. Larsen, if score 3 goals, he made +10 goals in 3 years in big leagues.

He are new in one team, and the wolves dont know how he play, he are improving, i know it, becasuse he dont usually use the left feet, and now score a good goal whit that feet.

And during the last games i view many 2 vs gk failed, and Larsen full free to score, im sure he score more goals if the player read the movements of Larsen.

Totally agree!

That is one of the good things have Larsen, but its hard to view that movements. He many times run close the small area to push the defenders, or to other direction to generate space.

Aspas and Veiga on Celta took advantage of those movements to score. And i view many times Cunha use many times it to score.

The problem of defender its because Larsen its tall player, have good head and long feets to find balls close area, by that they continues marking Larsen.

I'm not sure this 'new manager bounce' is actually a real thing, it goes wrong more often than right. Look at Leicester, been mostly absolute gash since RVN turned up, although a bit unlucky yesterday against City.
The fall off from City must be the biggest anywhere anytime.

Appreciate that you’re trying to compliment Larsen, but you need to understand that whatever Raúl was or wasn’t before arriving here, he was absolutely spectacular for us.

A new manager generally comes into a failing club unless they are lucky like Slot at Liverpool. Often failure isn’t entirely the preceding manager’s fault but due to the players available. In our case GO was the overwhelming cause of the team struggling so any competent manager was likely to be able to improve things and get some sort of bounce, though the size of the bounce and speed with which it has been achieved is almost unbelievable.

I really like the look of JSL. But it’s a limited sample pool still, half a season.

Also comparing him to Raul is always going to be difficult just for the standing Raul has with Wolves fans, and rightly so.

That being said, to even be having a few people drawing comparisons isn’t a bad thing. Better than being compared to our last la liga forward ..
