Wolves 3 - Sheff Utd 0 verdict thread

I'm with Mark, yes it was an awful challenge but I think it's seriously reaching to claim that the keeper is trying to hurt Jota.

He knew what he was doing. He thought he’d get the ball but knew full well he’d be flying in to Jota at full speed. The red card was completely deserved.

Lee Evans tried to do similar to Costa when he smashed the ball in to the Billy Wright. You could tell he was trying to get the ball and then follow through in to the player but thankfully Costa was too quick and got out of the way.

Well I didn't say it wasn't a red.

Fuck off you attention seeking, wank faced, ass hat! Your opinion is bullshit!

No, you said you didn’t think he was trying to hurt Jota. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Fair play to Jota - I said it yesterday but his bravery got the lad sent off. There are many players out there who would have ducked out of that one.

I think that's pretty presumptive but hey ho.

I'll respond to you as you've decided not to randomly throw insults at a stranger.

I'm not disputing the red card at all, merely that I don't see it as a particularly malicious assault like others apparently do. The keeper has come to sweep up but he's already too far gone by the time he realises he's second favourite for the ball. I think at that time he panics, yes his fist hits Jota's head but at exactly the time Jota heads the ball, he's trying to punch the ball for me, which highlights how lost he is because he's miles out of his box at that point.

It's a terrible clumsy challenge, not unlike many we've seen lately, and one the keeper should never have committed to, the red card was completely deserved but I don't think his intention was ever to injure or hurt Jota.

Sorry, I thought you had been disputing the red card. I agree that he hadn't come out with the intent to injure the player and that by the time he realised he wasn't getting there it was too late for him to do anything but clatter Jota.

Think that's pretty much what Nuno said too. Still ended up as a nasty challenge though.

Agreed.

Think a lot of times in football now people can get far too carried away with bad challenges, not every bad outcome is a result of bad intentions but as with lots of things these days people just love to blow everything out of proportion. The game generally just happens at such a great tempo now that the margin for error is tiny, and with stakes so high due to finances around the game players can't often afford to err on the side of caution. I think we need to accept that there are always going to be incidents that end up looking horrendous when the intentions were largely innocent, we'd have to completely neuter the game to remove any risk of these things happening.

It was nasty, it was a stonewall red but IMO it wasn't a cunts challenge unlike the ones inflicted by the Forest, Bolton and Blues cloggers who set out to 'do' Jota.

I just think the keeper timed it terribly and it ended up as a reckless, dangerous challenge. Those others were premeditated thuggery. Especially that Blues one.

I remember the 1982 world cup semi-final very well. And I did relate to that challenge as there were similarities with the keeper charging out. However, Moore was not as bad as that disgrace. If you ever watch the footage, you can clearly see Schumacher turning in the air to make sure that his lower back and hips smash the fuck out of Batiston without any thought of avoiding the impact. Moore wasn't as bad. Still naughty though.

It was a terribly timed challenge. The keeper thought he could come out and it would be in the box by the time he got there. But he realised it was well outside and panicked and tried to kick it and get anything on it.

Not malicious just clumsy, but a definite red.

I agree with this, I've seen people go out to do Jota in many games this season, that wasn't one of them. Stearman spent the first 10 minutes of the game trying to leave one on him though.

First off I thought it was clumsy. It was only when I saw on the replays watching the highlights that you can see Moore landing the left cross on him. I'd call anybody punching another person a deliberate act.

Indeed. He knew he wasn't going to get the ball so made the most of getting the man. How people can see this as a clumsy accident with no intent yet insist Batth's ball-winning challenge was a definite red is beyond me.

They both were looking to leave a mark, luckily it settled down after the first goal.

The two aren't comparable at all, aside from both deserving red cards.
