Wolves 2-0 Man Utd: Verdict Thread

Apparently that win puts us on 117 premier league wins, the team on 116 is West Brom.
The United forum seems to think they’re in a relegation battle, need a complete clear out of the dross players they have, unlikely because of the stupid wages they’re on.

This just probably highlights how many relegations Albion have had from the PL and the fact they never broke 50 points.

Must be something to do with Sheffield as my next thought after Madden was Paul Stancliffe. To be fair to Madden he was right at the end of his career when he came to us and had been an excellent top flight player for Wednesday. Bit like the late 2024 version of Dawson compared to even two years ago.

Rob Hindmarch and Kaspars Gorkss two more for the slow boat.

And I know everyone loves him but John de Wolf had no chance if a striker got the run on him. A youngish Nathan Blake absolutely rinsed him at Molineux for Sheff Utd.

We've beaten them for wins from about 100 fewer games too.

Ouch.

What an amazing transformation. From rabbits in the headlight to complete confidence. It doesn't hurt that we have played two really poor teams in VP's first two games, but players are confident on the ball and in each other. Sa looks like a PL keeper again. And if Doc keeps playing like that, Jeff will put his chequebook away again.

A quick word or 2 on Utd. In previous seasons you always had to stay 110% focused against them - switch off for just one second and they had the players who could and would punish you. This Utd was nothing like that - mediocre players, devoid of confidence, couldn't score in the proverbial brothel. On that performance a bottom half of the table team. They are not in a relegation fight, but it looks like a huge challenge for Amorim. Also those shirts - more Sunday morning than one of Europe's biggest names.
Who gives a fuck about Man U?

I watched this on prime. I was sat at one end of the couch, and my Man Utd supporting family member, at the other end. He’s a regular Old Trafford visitor and seemed devoid of optimism. I’d watched the City vs Utd game and thought they looked ok in the second half and said I’d probably take a point. He said Utd were shite and we’d beat them. By the end his face looked like a bag of squashed welks.

We received two late Christmas presents as Utd gifted us two beautifully wrapped presents in a sending off and a goal from a corner. In the end, I think it was quite a rudimentary home win.

Andre and Gomes, J played well again and seem to have explicit instructions of what to do and when to do it. Semedo, another good game. And of course, Cunha – brilliant and is going to be a massive miss for us.

Toti still makes my butt cheeks clench when he has the ball at his feet. Heart of a lion, physical and always trying to get his head on the ball, though. Still this habit of ‘whiffing’ it anywhere when he’s under zero pressure…

We look galvanised. Everyone seems to know their role/job. Amazing what a competent coach can do…

What a difference a week makes. We’ve now got some structure and patterns of play to go along with the talented players we have and not just chaotic running. It’s enabled our weaker players to fit in a system and not be exposed while allowing our better players to really show how good they are.

In particular Cunha was outstanding as he has been for most of the season and Andre is just superb. It’s got to be one of my biggest frustrations this season that Gary had some of our fanbase thinking we had signed a dud or someone we didn’t need. He could play for any team in the world i think in that position and looks to me to be one of those players that will look better when he plays with better players.
Rodrigo was good on Sunday but it was great to see RAN back in form and had we scored from his skill down the left and pass to Larsen it may have been my favourite Wolves goal.

Special mention to the referee too who i thought on the whole was excellent. They’re never going to get everything right but he let a game of football happen with contact in challenges and that made for a better game especially with us being quite aggressive at times. The game would be so much better if games were handled like that more.

On to Spurs now which despite their form and injuries isn’t an easy game and we’re going to have challenges from now to the end of the season but it’s been a good start by Vitor and so hopefully that carries on and he gets a bit of support in January.

I think a big improvement has been the way Gomes and Andre have been asked to play.
More structured and disciplined. Tbf they still got forward to help in attack when it was safe to do so, especially Gomes but at no time were they gung ho or caught up field with loads of space behind them.

Wasn't famously the fastest in the squad over 100 metres?
From memory he was a sprinter at school and was pretty handy at the 400m.

As DW said, he was quick in a straight line. Most his issue was misjudging the ball over his head, so rather than just turning round and running he’d be back pedalling only for it to go over his head and then get in a mess then trying to turn and run back.

Also the very definition of “50p head”.
