Wolves 2-0 Aston Villa: Verdict Thread

Better finisher, poorer in almost every other aspect of the game.
They're two cheeks of the same arse really. Both capable of playing well here and there (Guedes did on the whole yesterday, his fitness is a joke though, always gassed after an hour), both capable of putting in performances that make you wonder how they ever passed a trial anywhere. And Scenario B is more common than Scenario A.

If it's just a question of goalscoring ability then it isn't even a question, Guedes' career record is horrible.

For all of Guedes doing well in general play you can’t say he had a good game as he missed 3 one on ones. At this level at least one has to hit the back of net. If Villa’s equaliser was allowed they’d have proven very costly.

This was exactly my point. He shit his pants as soon as those chances came about, Hwang would have probably rattled one in.

The sooner both fuck off out of the club, the better

Tough one as I do think Martinez is one of the best in England in those situations, rushing out and tightening angles superbly, but the second chance Gonçalo whiffed (think it was Jean who played him through for that one) really needed to go in and probably should have regardless of Martinez closing it down so well.

Admit that I’m extremely weary of players who are going out and making a proper effort being told to fuck off but hey ho.

One on one he’s done pretty well this season - scored more than Hwang too, who was utter garbage as per yesterday. But yeah, would rather have neither.

The thing that surprised me most (in a good way) is how up for it we looked, pretty much right from the whistle. There have been far too many lacklustre, half arsed displays recently - I did not see that level of fight coming at all. Fair play to them for that.

That and Bellegarde making a massive impact were things I did not expect to be writing on here today!

Yep seemed much more aggressive (in a good way) all over the pitch.

Another plus for me is that we have now conceded just once in our last two league matches . We're tightening up at the back finally , and that's the key to staying up as we all know .
I thought there was a lot of togetherness in the performance at the back , played more as a team and less as individuals .

Liverpool at Anfield though will test that to the limit .

Against 2 CL teams too, one of whom put 5 past City today

VP spoke quite specifically about how pleased he was that we were playing as a team rather than individuals during his post-match interview

I like the way that Pereira has stuck to his principles and stated on several occasions that there is a certain way that he wants to play , and he won't be changing . Players then train this way and play this way every single day . Very Nuno like .
No chopping or changing , stick to it .

Another thing - he has no difficulty in name checking players during post match interviews , not being overly critical at times , just saying that player x can't play or is not suited to a particular team shape , and on other occasions being openly critical .
To date they have responded to it - eventually , in a fairly positive way .
Team morale had been really ripped apart during the six months prior to O'Neil's departure with all the changes in team formation - and completely failing to deal with the obvious weakness . It takes a while to convince players that the new manager is taking them back on the correct journey .

I agree with that as long as everyone knows that's the case going forwards and physical contact means interfering.

It's hard to reconcile that with the Man City goal though, where the player interfered with Sa because there was a longer time gap before the ball was played in.

The thing is, if the Villa player isn't trying to interfere with Semedo, why has he run across to be there?

It is a bit soft, but I also think it's just stupid from Villa to over complicate something that was going to work anyway
