Wolves 1-1 Everton: Verdict Thread

I’d I’ll also like to praise Agbadou. We’ve been a far tighter outfit with him in the side and it’s no surprise that we pick up points when he is. Had Beto in his pocket last night and it seemed embarrassingly easy for him.
I can’t believe why nobody has taken a punt on him before we did as he’s a top half Premier League centre half.

Agree, he looked strong but most tellingly, calm and composed yesterday. Very impressive, think he partners well with Toti too

Yeah, if with are playing a 3 moving into next season with Agbadou in the middle I'm happy with Toti on the left being asked to do what he is. It's in a 2 I don't think he's fit for purpose. I guess the formation is the first question Vitor needs to answer at the end of the season. Is this what he wants to play or what he thinks he had to? The recruitment then spins off that.

I keep reading this so I'll say it again...there's no way even the likes of Shi are going to sell RAN, J Gomes and Cunha all in the same window
I don't think it would be the intention, nor will Mendes be sent out to hawk both around, but if Utd offer £50m for RAN and Spurs the same for Gomes then he'd sell them both imo. I think we all know Cunha is gone.

Without Lopetegui at West Ham we wouldn't have sold Neto and Kilman in the same window, but once opportunity knocks Shi isn't saying no. You also have the situation that's the premise you recruited them on. FWIW I don't think we'll get that offer for Gomes

Cunha will go. RAN currently has more ability than output so losing him wouldn’t be the end of the world. Even at Christmas I couldn’t have envisaged a situation where I’d consider letting Gomes go but I have to say that now André is playing regularly I’d rather keep him than Gomes. We will need to replace Cunha’s creativity and maybe a slightly more creative player alongside André would go some way to doing that. That is perhaps more viable than funding a direct replacement for Cunha which would cost more than we’ll pay, so would require a huge amount of luck on an unproven player, something we’ve failed to achieve for far too long.

Thankfully if all three did go we've got a shortlist for each position, and we can start to make enquiries over the next couple of months so if a bid does come in, the replacement is in pretty much straightaway, yknow, just to be prepared for all eventualities. We're not just going waste a whole window dicking around to maximise income by a few million on a transfer fee and leave to late to sign replacements

He said 'no' to us selling Hwang when that offer came in?

The premise we recruited these players on wouldn't have been 'we'll sell you to the first decent bid'. Even Wolves under Fosun aren't that clueless/reckless

A decent point, in the context of putting another point between us and the dross. Depressing that that's our aim and we're so cut adrift from all the other actual Premier League sides but we all saw it coming over numerous poor windows where we sold our best players and replaced them with unknown, unproven downgrades. As others have said, if we stay up (we should from this point on) then a hell of a lot of work needs doing to avoid being here again next season, something which is beyond the collective genius of Shi and Hobbs but that's for another day.

Andre was easily MOTM, so much quality and tenacity there as he bosses the midfield alongside his compatriot Joao Gomes. Great to have Agbadou back, his passing can be a little hit and miss but his defending is classy and effortless.

Things have improved a lot under VP, the damage was done under the previous clown. We are at least competitive in games now (Everton battered us 4-0 when they were far worse pre-Moyes) but still a lot to do to ensure we are not relegation fodder again next season.

From where we were under Nuno to this whilst watching the likes of Forest, Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham who have come up far more recently consolidate, improve and leave us way behind is disappointing but oh so 'Wolvesy'

The sun is shining, daffodils are in flower, Wolves are well positioned to stay up and you just have to lower the mood by reminding everyone we turned down north of £20m for Hwang…

They do say if you keep saying something, eventually people will start to believe it.

Whether RAN, Gomes and Cunha leave in the summer has very little to do with Shi...

Was at a family party last night so only saw the highlights.
VP has if anything slowed down the GA column massively so much so we may get it below 2 gpg by the end of the season.
Still to many hospital passes out of defence putting us under pressure.
JRB seems to be really showing signs that he might have a future role, the ball for the goal is excellent.
The situation at the bottom is pretty much that Leicester and Ipswich will have to start risk taking to recover the points difference.
As I said on another thread we hold all the cards as to how this pans out now. We can in theory be pragmatic and be fine.
Difference is we’re able to see out a decent point where Ipswich fell just short yesterday.

I know it's frustrating to be aiming at being just better than the 3 promoted teams but still 10 points behind the rest of the field. However to offer a small crumb of comfort, I honestly believe if we'd had Pereira here all season, we'd be up with the other mid table teams. If we keep the coach and manage to bring in even some average level Premier league forwards I think that's where we'll be next season.
Obviously that depends on us staying up, I'm currently on 60% we will.

60% on keeping VP and backing him or 60% on staying up? Presumably the former?

We probably get a draw v Newcastle and away at Villa. Would have probably beaten Ipswich at home and got a draw at West Ham. Still think we’d have been in a similar league position but in no danger of being caught by the bottom 3.

With VP points average we probably get around 44 points which is more than comfortable in any PL season.

I think we could probably cope with losing those 3 (just) as long as we replace Cunha with someone competent I.e. not a Fabio style player.
Also we have to find a way of making Larsen work, he's been getting pelters recently and rightly so but we're committed to spending decent money on him and I do think he has some talent.

We look absolutely screwed for next season, unless the 3 promoted sides just don't cut it. I like VP but even Pep would struggle (ok, not a great analogy anymore).

Look at the 4 sides above us, Spurs, Utd, West Ham and Everton - they won't be in a relegation fight next year. Then suddenly you are looking at teams FIFTEEN points ahead of us at the moment. One of them may fall away and we will be better off if VP is around, but jeez it's on the flip of a coin and relegation within 2-3 years just looks inevitable

If you'd have told Forest fans 12 months ago where they'd be now...

Not that I think we will emulate that but with proper leadership (VP not the clowns above him) there is scope for much better

Very much so unless we have a storming summer transfer window (I’m laughing in my head at the thought).
With Cunha going and trusting Hobbs and co to bring in the right replacements means it’ll be an almighty struggle.

Not an anti VP point, but the teams immediately above us at kick-off yesterday also changed their managers at a similar time who both have better ppg than him. Over a season they'd be even further ahead.

I like your optimistic view, and we certainly have some class players, but it's going to take another Cuhna style purchase to make it a reality and I just think the 3 clubs coming up will offer a bit more than those this season did.
