Wolves 1-1 Everton: Verdict Thread

Are you sure you didn't dream that?
No. I can't remember which game it was but Sasa dropped deep, made a run out wide, and put in a great ball that we should have scored from. It might have been a counter and possibly Sarabia who missed, I can't be sure as I don't have DW's memory. But it stuck in my mind as a great bit of play from Sasa.

I'm sure I looked for it on the highlights at the time too and it wasn't on there.

Maybe I just hallucinated it!

He's back to full training is it? Good footballer Sasa

Sounds like Kevin Kyle...

We look absolutely screwed for next season, unless the 3 promoted sides just don't cut it. I like VP but even Pep would struggle (ok, not a great analogy anymore).

Look at the 4 sides above us, Spurs, Utd, West Ham and Everton - they won't be in a relegation fight next year. Then suddenly you are looking at teams FIFTEEN points ahead of us at the moment. One of them may fall away and we will be better off if VP is around, but jeez it's on the flip of a coin and relegation within 2-3 years just looks inevitable
Equally of the 4 teams above us pick up more points, they will have to get them from somewhere, so other teams will have less.

FWIW if we had VP with his PPG since he came in we would be safe already.

Could well be right regarding long term this isn’t sustainable. Just got to hope for a couple of decent windows buying these young players haven’t we 🤞🤞

Just watched the highlights again, and whilst Larsen was poor he could have easily come way with an assist an and a goal.

A fine backheel into Gomes who should have done better, and an excellent effort from a narrow angle that Pickford saved well.

Also it was a very good save from Sa for Beto too, certainly not routine.

Best thing on the Sa save is the distance he pushes it away - could've easily been a tap in on the rebound for a completely unmarked Everton player. Bailed them out on that breakaway.

Was chatting with friends pre match, and mentioned how deeply I am falling for Andre, and I agree with some of the comments about his amazing performance saturday. He gets better the further away he is from GON in my view (he was exceptional in his first game, and the more GON tried to coach him, the more confused he got imo).
Anyhow, the following is in todays guardian;
Wolves have a Brazilian who will be the subject of summer transfer interest, and his name is not Matheus Cunha. The central midfielder André has become integral to Vítor Pereira’s side and helped Wolves dominate in the middle of the park against Everton, forcing David Moyes to change formation by putting an extra man into that area of the pitch, where André and João Gomes were getting the better of James Garner and Idrissa Gueye. The 23-year-old André, who has 10 caps for Brazil, is a tenacious player, eager to break up attacks and possesses the stamina to keep going. He had a 97% passing accuracyon Saturday night and repeatedly won the ball back. Defensive midfielders are highly sought-after and André will attract suitors because he has the quality to play for a team much higher in the table than 17th.

Looks like that'll be Cunha, J Gomes, RAN and Andre on their way out this summer then 😅

Thanks to @playtheace for finding this for me.

It was Villa at home last season, and Neto who should have scored. It was indeed a counter after winning the ball wide in our own half.

Just click on the vid to see it, I've timestamped the playback to start on the move.

To be fair I once saw Kevin Kyle put in a superb run and cross. I wouldn't call him mobile or creative though.

Oh i can do better than that.

I reckon Darren Ferguson got at least 30 assists during his time at Wolves, from all those 90s vids he seems to be involved in most of our goals :ROFLMAO:

Corica has a couple of really good ones too. And I think all his goals for us were good finishes too, albeit there's not many of them.

I'm still not having Mark Rankine though.

Re; JSL - I don’t think we’re playing to his strengths. Just because he’s a “big lad” doesn’t automatically mean we should be lamping balls at his head and expecting him to bring them down/hold the ball up. He’s more of a fox in the box, whip some crosses in while he’s on the shoulder of the defender and he’ll invariably get somewhere near it - that’s certainly how he got his goals earlier in the season. That’s not to say he’s isn’t letting himself down with heavy touches etc at the moment, but a lot of that looks down to sharpness (or lack of) and I think he’s some way off being match fit. I also think Vítor has to shoulder some of the responsibility because we’re not playing to his strengths. I’m certainly not going to praise Gaz, but I’d say JSL is one of a tiny number of players that have looked worse under Vítor.

It’s also a good example of where I sort of wish Vítor was a little more flexible in terms of his set up. We have a number of players who would look better playing off JSL in a sort of 10 role, more central than wide. Hwang, Guedes, JRB, Munetsi - even Sarabia. That’s probably why he’s had them playing narrow recently and pushing the wing backs on. I wouldn’t mind seeing someone like Hwang given a go playing off JSL in these next few games while Cunha is out, but I’d prefer to have Rodrigo playing in the wide positions (a player that can actually cross the ball and doesn’t constantly cut back) as one of the advanced full backs.
