Wolves 0-2 Arsenal: Verdict Thread

Nathan Collins would be a downgrade on pretty much anyone. I have no idea what we were doing getting rid of 3 proven PL CB and signing Neil Collins mk2?

Thanks Scott!
For what it's worth, watching the recent YouTube video of the Saiss interview he seemed to suggest that both Sellars and Lage were keen on him staying and that it was Shi that essentially forced him out.

Word about Lop. His few minutes at the beginning he did more to connect with the fanbase than that cretin Lage did in 15 months. I love the bloke and am very excited to see what he does with this side, I think he will improve us no end and turn this shit around.

Just watched his first day video, the bloke oozes class and charisma and had time for everyone from Jeff down to the catering staff, congratulating Joe Hodge and letting him know he'd seen him play, asking Sasa about his injury, talking to Nunes about his shoulder, he's the real deal and I'm quietly confident he will see us good.
Have to agree with this. Not only recognising Joe Hodge but telling him he had a good game against Leeds must have done his confidence a real boost. It feels like the sort of leadership we've been missing under Lage.

Looks like the PL are hiding behind the “clear and obvious” bollocks.
Don’t worry Mike Dean will go home to bed tonight untroubled by his incompetence but payed decently for it.
I don’t think for 1 second he carried out due diligence with the process.
If that’s deemed not a penalty then nothing is a penalty.
Stop with the not wanting to re ref the game shit, clear that mr inconsistent on the field didn’t see the incident clearly.

Just seen the goals back, Collins and Kilman parting like the red sea were obvious at the time on the first, Bueno's reaction is weak again though, defensively I think he's a little off tbh.

Lembikisa overplaying and mugged for the 2nd, but I saw that at the time

As for the 'penalty', I hate VAR, I'd happily bin it tomorrow, but if it's not giving decisions like that then what is the point?

VAR should be used with one aim which is to get the correct decision. Clear and obvious is irrelevant, Dean should have looked at that and immediately seen a foul, notified Atwell it was a foul and that an offside check was in progress. If something that simple cannot be achieved just bin it.

Bueno and Lembikisia looked better going forward than they did defensively in the u23s/u21s. We shouldn't be in a position where we are relying on such inexperienced players because our squad is now so weak / poor. More than happy for young players to be there on merit, but not by default.

I think JL will improve us, but I don't know by how much. We've got problems right the way through the squad.

Edit. To clarify, I really like Bueno & Lembikisia going forward, but for where they are now they will be vulnerable defensively. This may get better with experience though.

Couldn't watch the game last night and only just catching up with it.

What am I missing with the penalty incident? Doesn't Guedes being offside make it irrelevant?

No, because he wasn't offside. They had to restart with an offside call because as it was decided there was no penalty the offside couldn't be overturned even though it had been decided it wasn't actually offside.
Yes, Fuck VAR...

It's one of the incredibly frustrating things about VAR, not just that it has bad decisions in the studio but that it changes the way decisions are made on field.
Linos are told not to flag close offside calls because they will be reviewed if a goal is scored, to give the benefit of doubt.
But say an offside player has a shot that goes out for a corner that then results in a goal, that offside can't be overturned because it didn't immediately lead to a goal, it was the next phase.
Fuck VAR.

Thanks to Davis for his efforts, blooding Bueno and getting a little more from the players than Lage, but I'm relieved his tenure is over.

Desperately need some PL quality football staff at the club, letting amateurs like Shi or lower league standard minds like Sellars, Roberts and Davis (not to mention Lage) call the shots has massively weakened the quality of our football. Our set pieces and shooting are an embarrassment.

Have to hope JL's team are a cut above what we've had in the background since Nuno's team left. Can't wait for him to get his teeth into the club, just hope it isn't too late

I'm confident this coaching set up is going to be the best since Nuno. Whether they have enough time to get in their own players and have an effect remains to be seen.
I'm hopeful but it's going down to the wire I think.

Yep, he's definitely provided them with a bit more heart, all that said his ppg was less than Lage's. Not getting a proper manager in sooner could be what does for us.

It's obvious, but you can't just blag it as a club at PL level. You'll be found out and fucked hard.

Not exactly a high bar!

True, it feels like we've wasted 2 seasons.
To get rid of Nuno without having a reputable replacement is criminal, we all know that, to persevere after the end of last season with Lage really cost us.
Anyway I think we have a good team coming in, let's hope they at least give us a chance of survival.

I didn’t think we played badly last night, just beaten by a better team. I’m not sure if Davis or Lopetegui picked the team but it was probably the right way to go. If only we’d had Raul & Jota up top instead of Traore & Guedes. We’re a team without a goal scorer and that’s exactly what we looked like.

From the ground you could tell it was a foul on Guedes but I thought nothing else of it as I presumed it was offside. After getting home it was pretty obvious it was a penalty and VAR got it completely wrong. If it’s not going to rectify decisions like that then it’s completely pointless.

We’ve got lucky with the World Cup break and it may be what saves us. Treat it like a pre season and start again in a few weeks. Hopefully with a few new players to follow.

Perhaps, but I’d argue that the 14 games previous to today offer fairly compelling evidence.
I don’t recall is being a goal up, playing 10 men in our last 14 games….

We lost to a team better than us. We have a decent account of ourselves. Our season won’t be based on losing to arsenal.

Our season will be based on post World Cup. Loo has to basically over 23 games get 5 more points than 3 of either West Ham, Everton, Southampton or Forest. Do that and we stay up which has to be the starting block. Personally, I fancy us to do that.

It’s been a shit few months given the optimism the window brought, but some of the negativity is massively OTT.

Breaks coming at a good time, reset and go again, hopefully the forum won’t be as depressing as well 🙄🙃
