Wolves 2-0 Aston Villa: Verdict Thread

Great first half, just about done enough second half.

Doesn't need to pretty, though, just effective. Today it was.

Delighted with that.

Sa, Agbedou, Toti, André, Sarabia and Bellegarde were all excellent today.

Top top stuff. Enjoy your Saturday night lads.
Guedes did OK? Involved in build-up to our goal but should have scored one of his chances? We will all enjoy tonight but I drank e nough watching that!😃

Doc Agbo Toti might be something to build on when/if we don't sign another CB.
No.

Doherty is not a serious option.

I broke my back door a few years ago and it wouldn't shut properly. I had a hefty piece of wood sat in the back garden from something else. That kept the door closed for now if I propped it at the correct angle.

Matt Doherty is that piece of wood.

Hey now, that piece of wood was probably consistent.

I wasn't asking you ;)

Harsh. There are better players out there but we do not have them do we? Doc gave 100% tonight.

Doc looks so bloody old with those bags under his eyes...obviously as stressed and worried about relegation as us lot....

Bellegarde was brilliant. If the answer is Bellegarde the question is who should play in the centre of midfield if Gomes or Andre can’t.

I actually think Doherty reads the game quite well and often gets to the ball ahead of an opponent over short distances. His weakness is that over more than 5 yards he can’t compete. He’s doing far better at CH than I imagined possible but you know that he’ll be found wanting too often, especially in open games.

Hopefully this brings an end to Cunha's Sir Strops-a-lot routine and that all he needed was a goal to get his head straight.

Really impressed with our shape, press, organisation, and aggression today, all across the board. I might be in the minority on this, but I still think Guedes stuck out like a sore thumb by being as weak as piss in the challenge and never fully seems in control of the ball when he receives it. He seems bereft of confidence and maybe needs a tap in to change things for him, although I doubt that'd change much - he's scored before and still looked miserable and sickly five minutes later.

That said, there were no other options available to us and his movement off the ball was good enough.

Toti coming in was a massive lift for our defence, with Agbadou looking twice the player by no longer being out of position. Goes to show that just having an average player play in his natural position massively improves on the farce that our defence became from the moment Mosquera got injured.

JRB being played centrally worked well and he seemed to really enjoy the chance to play something closer to his natural game.

Our lack of squad depth is a big worry still, but a good day of results for us.

I think Vic got it right on the night too.
Chapeau to Bellegarde, and Sa, Toti, agga, Doc, Sarabia, Andre, and even Guedes had decent games.
We have the making of a solid back 3 here, if we can just add one more.

Oh, and we got lucky on their disallowed goal, but it was a clear penalty at the other end for us, and exactly the sort of thing I'd expect VAR to have given.
