Southampton 1-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I would say pound for pound we were worse under Lage. He still had Neves, Moutinho, Adama, Coady, Boly and Raul at his disposal (he chose to get rid of two of them).
Astonishing isn’t it? A (poor) defence of GON is that he was just A. Bloke whistled up off a sun lounge on hols. Lage claims to actually do this stuff, as his real profession.

I would say, despite having eyes that almost work, we will get £7-£10m for him.
Have I got £7m for Sam Johnstone?

I’ve whinged a heck of a lot. I should say - I’m blinkin happy! Here’s to MOTD later 🙂

He’s saying the right things & he HAS done a cracking job since taking over, given where we were & how low morale was under Gaz. As others have said, we’d have 100% gone down under him.

I hope, if/when, Vitor keeps us up - the club use this experience as a warning, and they back him with good quality in the summer. It’s going to take one hell of a window to turn it completely around, but Vitor is competent and it’s nice to see him smiling.

(I do want him to play Rodrigo more, though)

Anyways, didn’t think we were ever close to not picking up the 3 points today.
As fans West Ham are in a similar position to us, paying through the nose for a sub optimal product and playing in a soulless stadium. That's where the PL is now since it became an entertainment product

17 points from 13 matches for VP would have us sat on about 49-50 points over 38 games easily in mid table.
But GON was young and English and deserved a chance and we should’ve been benevolent to him. It’s complete bollocks the footballing media experts (Henry Winter, Darren Lewis) should be feeling embarrassed about their comments during GON disaster class from August-December.

As an aside, how shit is ramsdale?
My comment from earlier in this thread

"As Southampton have a keeper we wanted until the price was confirmed...if Sa had let in a goal similar to Larsen's first we would be calling him every c*nt under the sun.
Dreadful keeping for me. No anticipation of the header, poor foot work and it goes in just to the side of him.
We wasted £10m on SJ but at least we avoided wasting £18m or so on that relegation master"

Just back from the game and was surprised to see the comments here - I didn’t think we were that bad at all.

Saints were poor and reminded me of us - nice football but fuck all cutting edge - but we pretty much dominated and Sa didn’t have much to do.

I actually thought we made hard work of it, looked like an amazing chance to make it 0-3 just before they scored……and we could have had more.

Special shout to Andre - easily the best player on the pitch by a mile. Absolute baller and works like a lunatic without the ball. Gets better every week.

He just might well be our most prized asset. And I include Cunha in that.

He inexplicably drinks in The Swan in Compton :D

As far as I know has not got barred from any pubs, unlike Crazy Walt who is presumably still barred from The Crown Wergs.
There are worse pubs, tbf

Another thing he’s got going for him (Vitor), he’s a short arse like me.
The Swan at Compton is a cracking Pub by the way.

Another poor game of football but points on the board are the main objective at the moment especially when we’re having to play players that many don’t rate out of position and then replace them with Sarabia and Guedes who i think put in one of the worst sub appearances ever.

Andre immense second half and who would have thought getting crosses in and balls down channels would make JSL look better…. He was excellent from the start today, won numerous headers, closed down, brought others in to the game and bagged a brace.

Tough one. Part of me wants to give him some leeway with the first as it bounces directly in front of him, but it's still a save I imagine Raya makes for example and there are still other issues with it from him. Today he looked like Bournemouth and Sheff Utd Ramsdale where he seems to get too easily beaten with stuff you want a keeper to stop at this level. People can point to his player of the season with Blades but particularly before Xmas he let in some dreadful goals for them.

Based on his performances this season you'd not want to swap him for Sa. That's pretty damning of Arsenals valuation for him.
