Southampton 1-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Hope you’re right, in a way (would prefer he stay for another year, but admit I don’t keep up with contracts so timing may force our hand). I like him a lot, I’m just not sure what he provides is “sexy” enough to draw a bid like that. Not dissimilar to Ruben in that way.
I wouldn't swap him for Enso Fernandez who cost £100m.

I know it doesn't work like that but as we will be a PL club come the summer then there's no reason for us to be accepting lowball offers.

Don't disagree Al, throw in a scrap at full time with several players embarrassing themselves and 1 or 2 getting reds and suspensions
I think we can all agree that Cunha’s glasses moment would have been legendary if he’d snatched away O’Neil’s iPad instead.

And smashed Dezza over the head with it

God, I forgot how much Fernandez went for. Chelsea have looked actively worse to me when he plays. A complete tactical pygmy.

It’s not so much that I think JG should be sold at <= £30m, I just don’t know that he stands out in the particular way that draws bids higher than that. Maybe I’m too stuck on the non-Saudi bids we received for Ruben, which also seemed weirdly low for his quality. But he didn’t score enough, I guess.

Bah, won’t catch me accusing too many clubs of handing transfers wisely, anyway. We’ll see how it plays out when the time comes.

Not to be even more pessimistic, but I’d be stunned if they add up to that amount. João in particular I can’t figure out. Second half he was fine, first half, though…

I guess I can’t see us getting an offer of more than £30m or so for him. And even that kind of feels like pushing it, IMO.
I think we are more likely to lose Andre than Gomez.

Honestly, I think my concern for JG goes double for André. Could be recency bias as I thought the Tiny Destroyer was about as poor as he’s ever been for us today (which wasn’t really that bad after a very shaky first 20’ or so).

I think RAN is the one more likely to go this summer after Cunha, don't reckon either of the Brazilian MFs go

Doherty
S Bueno
Hwang
Dawson
Kalajdzic (shame but he is clearly broken and will have been out for 18 months by the time he even next gets a chance to try)
Sarabia
Bentley
Forbs
Guedes (x 1000)
Johnstone
King
Chiquinho
Chirewa
Hoever
Lembikisa
Hodge
Fabio

So 1 starter, 4 subs and a bunch who likely played their last minutes for us a season ago at least?

Anyways, yeah we weren’t thrilling today. But we’ve got less against the basement dwellers with far better players in recent seasons

Doherty, Bueno, Dawson, Hwang, Guedes and Sarabia have all played plenty of minutes for us this season. Plus the two good players who are going to leave, one for free, one for below what his value should be. Hoever and Fabio cost us £44m, whether they're here right now or not. Plus Sasa's £18m.

Then we might sell someone else who we'd rather not, one of André/J Gomes or Ait-Nouri could easily go. We don't tend to turn down bids. Think it's only Kilman in 2023 and Hwang in 2024 where we have, and the latter was based on bullshit commercial reasons that only exist in the head of our idiot chairman.

Do you think other Premier League clubs above us have nearly 20 players they'd like to bin off? With the exception of Manchester United, I would say no.

Leicester? Saints?!

I’m not disagreeing with you. Just think next season won’t be as much of a grim slog as this has been

Well pretty performances can come when were mathematically safe, results all that matter and frankly we’re shit so expecting a football exhibition is being very hopeful.
Not going to say we’re safe yet but today feels a big day and a big psychological blow for Ipswich especially.
4 points without Cunha is a nice return so far.

I think Cunha is a dead cert to go.
I won't bat an eyelid if Ran fucks off for a few quid, and sadly if jaoa goes for decent money i think we will have almost enough with andre, munetsi, traore, and bellegarde.
We need wide forwards, and even though he had a decent 69 mins today, i'd like an alternative to strand.

This can't be overstated. Consensus was that without him we were screwed and would be lucky to grub a couple of 0-0s.

We've also won back-to-back away league games on the quiet (and should have got something from the previous away game at Anfield). Haven't done that for over a year, Chelsea and Spurs last February.

Vitor is doing an excellent job, griping about his football just seems odd to me. Lopetegui's home wins weren't any more palatable from a stylistic point of view and he was absolutely pathetic on the road. He got handed absolutely tons to spend in January too. Got a lot more credit than Vitor is getting, both in the wider media and amongst our own fanbase. Vitor also doesn't wear chinos, look like Chris de Burgh and I'd say is unlikely to spend his summer giving interviews to pet journos where he slags the club and the players off.
