Wolves 0-0 Newcastle - Verdict thread.

Sure, we didn't do nearly enough to win (and this won't be the only time this happens due to the dreadful lack of creativity in the squad)
This is a real problem with judging Edwards. Like how are we ever going to attack games when we have so few options in the squad.

I want to see how we go with approaching a game on the front foot but he simply can't even attempt it right now.

You're not even asking for world beaters - one of Sarabia, Podence or Adama on the pitch today and that was winnable.

If we can get 1 or 2 players in the mould of the 3 you mention it will interesting to see what Edwards comes up with, big 'if' obviously.

One thing I would say is that he doesn't help himself with his subs sometimes. Tolu and João off killed any threat that we had. Mané was cooked at the end and should have come off and Hwang should have been off 10 minutes before.

A very forgettable game. Newcastle could have won comfortably if they could head a ball but we hung in there. As well as the players already mentioned- Mosquera and Tchatchoua - I thought Krejci played well. André and Gomes battled really well too but often the run of the ball seemed to go against them.

I don’t think it is coincidence that we look so much more organised since Rui Pedro Silva arrived. I think removing the chaos that Toti and Agbadou bring has also helped in that regard.

It is a quite incredible that Hwang played 85 minutes, I thought he was anonymous in the first half but in the second he put in a performance that the World Hide and Seek Champion would be proud of.

Yeah subs weren’t great but he does have his hands tied.

If we had a right wing back and a wide attacker you could almost fashion a decent ish starting eleven. We’re not even at that point though

Didn’t think much of RE’s subs at all today. JSL for Tolu was like for like and we were already under the cosh (maybe not in terms of clear cut chances but they were camped in our half and that usually ends in one way).

We needed Rodrigo on earlier to give us some sort of out ball/pace on the counter. Preferably for Hwang who was completely anonymous. And as much as Mane has been instrumental in our turnaround in fortune, he was completely and utterly done in by an hour and should have been taken off for some legs (Arias). I wouldn’t have taken Joao off - he was all over the park and was breaking things up well.

Didn’t cost us a loss in the end, fortunately, but might have cost us a win. We’ll never know.

I’d love to know Edwards’ reasoning for keeping Hwang on when he had Rodrigo available. In the time he was on Rodrigo did as much as Hwang did all match. It really does make you wonder if the Korean TV sponsorship deal has clauses in it relating to Hwang playing. I know that sounds stupid but I can’t think of any other reason we have to endure him doing nothing.

Thing is he wasn't getting any minutes last season. Constantly an unused sub.

So it can't be that.

Yeah, we just have such poor options. Larsen should be ashamed of himself that Hwang is ahead of him though

Rodrigo has just come back from a muscle injury so I don’t think you can chuck him in just yet. Today would have been too much to start I think with some of the defending we had to do.

As I said, I know it’s stupid but so is the idea of playing someone that offers so little week after week. Maybe they’re making up for the lack of appearances last season?😂

I didn't think Hwang played too badly tbh. There was a weird period in the second half where he seemed to be playing in the midfield 3 and clearly had no idea what to do as he barely touched the ball but apart from that he didn't have as many fuck ups as usual.

He works hard but as with many of our players lacks quality.

He just offers nothing. The bar is so low for him now that he's considered to have played OK just by virtue of not costing us a goal.
