Wolves 2-0 Aston Villa: Verdict Thread

Villa’s record at Molineux since 2016:
L 0-1
L 0-2
L 1-2
W 1-0
L 2-1
L1-0
D1-1
L0-2

Not great for a side that arrogantly sees us as way beneath them.
Change it to with a crowd and you can take the win out

Will have something wolves related worn in the morning when getting in some groceries in Shifnal. Have been sick of seeing smug Villa fans walking around, petty I know.

Was busy for most of the game, was it a midfield 2 with bellegarde alongside Andre?

Hopefully this brings an end to Cunha's Sir Strops-a-lot routine and that all he needed was a goal to get his head straight.

Really impressed with our shape, press, organisation, and aggression today, all across the board. I might be in the minority on this, but I still think Guedes stuck out like a sore thumb by being as weak as piss in the challenge and never fully seems in control of the ball when he receives it. He seems bereft of confidence and maybe needs a tap in to change things for him, although I doubt that'd change much - he's scored before and still looked miserable and sickly five minutes later.

That said, there were no other options available to us and his movement off the ball was good enough.

Toti coming in was a massive lift for our defence, with Agbadou looking twice the player by no longer being out of position. Goes to show that just having an average player play in his natural position massively improves on the farce that our defence became from the moment Mosquera got injured.

JRB being played centrally worked well and he seemed to really enjoy the chance to play something closer to his natural game.

Our lack of squad depth is a big worry still, but a good day of results for us.
Disagree re Guedes. He makes excellent runs, looks to make things happen and gets into good positions in the box. He just needs to improve his finishing.

Those are all things he does without the ball, something I acknowledged. My issue with him is the way he loses possession cheaply because he's so lightweight.

Bellegarde put in arguably the best all round CM performance by a Wolves player this season. He did everything: tackled well, good range of passing, worked hard, and scored. Joao should be worried about getting his place back!

There’s a strong argument to suggest that Joao doesn’t get his place back.

After handing the initiative back to Arsenal with that fucking stupid tackle, JB put in a performance today that is every bit as good as anything Gomes has produced this season.

Not sure dropping JB sends out the right message.

Dunno about that, Gomes has been our most consistent player all season, made a silly mistake. Bellegarde has had one good game all season. I know where I'm putting my money if there's a bet on who has the most impact over the rest of the season.
