The F1 Thread

It's been nobody's fault but his own for his poor showings recently.

There's something not right with him and McLaren at the moment.

I would say its the "team" around him. Previously he had just his Dad, who seemed to be good for him but with his jump into being beyond famous he now has a team around that are only concerned about what they can get his name attached too. He has needed someone this season to point him in the right direction instead he is surrounded by yes men and folk who will tell him he is still the best etc etc. A lot of his mistakes this season have come from him being a very frustrated driver. You can see in him all he wants to do is drive, over take people and win but he really needs his focus back.

His errors and seeing a Red Bull team racing away into the distance, everything he does turns to crap and his VIP pass to the Stewards room he has really needed someone behind him and he hasn't got it anymore. Losing Ron Dennis from the front line of McLaren wasn't good for him. Best thing for Lewis now is to keep his head down for the rest of the season and get it out of the way and then sort out who has with him.

Button maturing into the main results man at McLaren in recent Grand Prix has dented his confidence too and he's been trying to force it.

It seems clear he has the car this weekend though so it'll be interesting tonsee if he can convert it into a win. I wonder if Vettel will be able to attack them at all. Maybe not in the first stint. I wonder if their tactical tyre choice will pay dividends?

Not content with just winning, Sebastian Vettel puts in the fastest lap of the race on the final lap!

My word those Korean grid girls!! Every one of them.

Until it was a bloody stump.

Dan Wheldon seriously hurt in the Las Vegas 300 tonight.

Awful awful crash.

Sad news. Driver's have gone out for a 5 lap salute. RIP Dan

On board footage from Will Power's car is horrendous.

RIP Dan. Horrific accident. 34 cars on an oval like that is a recipe for disaster.

The footage from power's car is dreadful. How it wasn't a double fatality I don't know. It is a clear problem with the big fields on ovals that a crash up front can easily lead to a massive pile up.

Equally, the authorities have known that catch fences could lead to this sort of carnage since kenny brack's accident a few years ago, which should have been unsurvivable. The walls themselves are a lot safer since they were redesigned to have give in them, but the fences are anything but.

I met Dan Wheldon at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the summer, and he came across as a really nice bloke who really enjoyed life.

A terrible loss, and my thoughts are with his family.

3 Place Grid Penalty for Lewis at the Indian Grand Prix for ignoring yellows in first practise.

He really needs this season to end and to get his head back in order

Perez got the same penalty too.

I think he needs a good kick up the backside. His whole attitude has been wrong, he seems unable to accept that other people are out on track as well as him. If he continues like this, he will lose his prestigious position.

I think his personal life has had a big effect. Splitting with his girlfriend, his management change, etc. Plus the frustration of not being able to get near the Red Bulls.

Button out-performing him should be all the kick up the backside he needs really.
