The F1 Thread

Haha true. Jenson's been super quick on the primes all weekend.

Brilliant drive from Sutil too.

I think this season has shown us a lot of things, but the main one for me is that with similar equipment button is better than hamilton. More consistent if sometimes less brilliant.

Hmm, tough one. Jenson's had a great season, but I'd still bet against him when Lewis has got his head straight. Whether that happens or not I'm not sure.

I'd rate both behind Vettel and Alonso right now though.

Nando, I normally bow to your superior knowledge of Motor Racing, but I think that Button is now a better driver than Hamilton.

I agree Frank, right now he's superior to Lewis, but in a world of no distractions I still think Lewis is better.

Button has matured into a fantastically consistent and fast driver over the last couple of years, Lewis Hamilton has seemingly regressed this season in terms of pace. Both at their best Hamilton is quicker but he has too many off days at the moment. I really hope Mclaren and (less so) Ferrari can match Red Bull from the start of next season so we can have a nice tight title battle, not that Vettel hasn't been monumentally supreme this season, its just that the title was gone after 6 races this time!

Ferrari seem confident for next season, the EBD ban should help them considerably as they seem to have a fundamentally strong car. It will be interesting to see McLaren, they were dire in pre-season testing before adopting the EBD and were off the pace at Silverstone when it was banned for the weekend.

Generally, Button will bring the McLaren home in the top three. Hamilton will either win or throw it at the scenery. I think they're a perfect pairing, and they both have strengths that outweigh the other - Button's a better overtaker, Hamilton's a better qualifier and so on.

Interesting. Raikkonen was a fine driver, but that doesn't get around the fact that the Lotus is likely to be uncompetitive.

It also leaves a question mark over Kubica should he recover fully.

Put Button in Vettel's Red Bull and Button is World Champion. But Button in Webber's Red Bull and the Championship would have been really interesting. Button and Vettel have the same ability to get consistent pace out of good cars consistently over the course of a season.

You can add Alonso and Hamilton to that too. Webber isn't good enough to be in that car.

It's actually Renault he's signed for rather than Team Lotus. You know, Renault that will become Lotus, rather than Lotus that will become Caterham.

In other words, it'll be upper mid-grid, rather than trying to catch the pack.

Yes - hence the Kubica reference. He will be some way behind the top six, but should be battling out for minor points with the Mercedes, I guess.

I expect Kubica to be spending a lot of time at Fiorano over the next year.

Yeah he'll be testing for Ferrari. Can't see him going back to Renault.

Ted Kravitz was saying that he'll take ages to recover his body's full fitness to drive an F1 car. It's not his injuries that will limit his return but that.

Ferrari had an option on him for 2012, so I'm sure they'll want to see what he can do. There's no better place for him to be to get him back to full fitness if possible.

I really hope he is able to return to the sport at some point although I do wonder if he'll be able to reach the same levels again. Very excited to see what Kimi can do in the Renault, I presume Petrov will be his teammate?
