The F1 Thread

I would like to see kobiyashi in a better car. Really likes an overtaking maneouvre. Also, I felt di resta can be quietly pleased with his debut season.
Hopefully Mercedes can push on over the winter, as it would be great to see schumi battling the big boys again.

I rather suspect that there's millions of reasons why he will be. All measured in roubles, no doubt.

To be fair Petrov has generally held his own without being spectacular, will be interesting to see if Kimi destroys him or not.

Agree about Di Resta, I feel he could well go on to become a solid driver at a top team, not sure if he'll go further than that but if he was in Massa's Ferrari he would probably do a better job.

I am surprised that Bahrain has been included in the calender for next years F1 races. There is still serious unrest in the country, so I think it would have made sense to leave them out next year, and see if the County regained stability.

Sauber and Toro Rosso follow Ferrari and Red Bull out of FOTA.

Bahrain should go for good, awful track.

BBC have announced their live races. Thank fuck Belgium is still there, but I am pissed off about losing the right to watch Japan.

Also, Crofty is going to be doing the commentary with Brundle which should be a superb combination for those people who have Sky.

Croft is now lead commentator in fact, ahead of Brundle who is back to being colour commentator. I always thought he was pretty good on the practice sessions. Georgie Thompson will be doing stuff for the F1 Channel too.

Wotsisface Lazenby off the rugby will be presenting the show. I don't know him but I'm sure people like DW and Paddy will.

Also, The World Motor Sport Council met yesterday in India to finalise the 2012 calendar and rules. There are a fair few rule changes including a ridiculous one for overtaking:

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2011/12/new-rules-on-overtaking-among-f1-regulation-changes-for-2012/

Utterly stupid rule if you ask me. You can't even defend your position properly now!

No idea on Lazenby as I don't have sky. Still pissed off about losing ten races to be honest. My fit of pique side says to me I might just say fuck em and ignore it next season. The good angel on the other shoulder is already planning to do extra housework and beg squeeze to put Sky Sports back, but that is a different story...

It's becoming farcical now, they're all grown ups, I'm sure they can sort it out between themselves. They might as well just blue flags out instead.

Just read two lines of that - bollocks. So basically DRS will decide rather than driver skill if you can't defend a line. Fucking shite. Might as well watch Nascar.

The death of Peter Gethin this week made me look at the old footage of the last laps of the 1971 Italian Grand Prix. That was racing - 5 cars battling on the last lap and separated by less than a second. Gethin won by 0.01 seconds from Ronnie Petersen and the cars were effectively three wide driving for the line. How will Bernie's nonsense deal with that, which is effectively close and exciting racing?

Rumours that Petrov will be axed by Lotus, so that he can join Marussia in place of Glock, with Grosjean moving in alongside Kimi. Ricciardo could replace Trulli too, although he has a contract for next year.

Where on earth would Timo Glock end up in that scenario? He's far too good to be left on the sidelines, surely?

Williams possibly? They're being investigated over Maldonado's sponsorship, maybe two seats could be available there despite the announcement of Pastor being signed for next year.

God knows why Virgin signed Pic, they could have had a very strong line up of Petrov and Flock.

Grosjean deserves another chance, wiped the floor with everybody in GP2 and judging him on 6 races against Sponsor at the end of 09 isn't fair.

Senna was a bit unfortunate to get the boot I thought. His performances had been decent recently.

That should say Alonso, not sponsor btw.

Bruno did well, but I don't see any space for him this season which is a shame.
