Summer 2019 Transfer Thread

Im not saying Raul hasnt earned it, but will there really be competition to sign him at 38m? Surely we should try to negoatiate rather than just pay the release clause.
Obviously we dont know our transfer kitty for next season, but if this is 2/3rds or half of our all of our funds its a bit risky, we dont have anyone to sell apart from maybe costa.

We did the talking on fee last summer when we signed him on loan. Everything agreed - we want him, we pay the amount. Set in stone. Now he could have been a disaster and that would have meant we threw £3m down the drain but flip that to how it has been and Benfica are probably wanting to add another £10m or so to his fee due to his success, but they can't.

You also can't base a decision on buying someone based on what happened at his previous clubs, that we didn't see and didn't know the whole circumstances in terms of what position he played, how often etc.

We can base it on using our own eyes to see his performances for us - I don't know any other strikers out there currently that we could buy for £38m that would do the job he has done for us so far and be able to hit the ground running next season too.

It isn't a Release Clause.

It's an agreed buy option after the loan deal.

Raul- first half dozen games I loved his work rate but questioned his finishing.

Since his goal in the first Chelsea game he has gone from strength to strength. 30m is a snip in todays market. Sign him up

We got Donk, Neves, Moutinho, Patricio, Jonny, for what Everton paid for Pickford and Richarlison.

This is the bracket he's in.

Ahead of Lukaku, Vardy, Firmino, Wilson, Richarlison, Rashford, Martial, Sane. But look who is ahead of him - how much would they fetch?

£38m for the outpost Raul has given us - which at the moment doesn't look like stopping any time soon - is absolutely a good deal in the current market.

Seriously, at the start of March we're talking a player with 12 Prem goals (more than anyone outside the top 6 and Vardy), 6 Prem assists (joint 6th in the League), an incalculable impact on the way the team plays... 38 million is a steal for a player like that at this level. We'd want our lumps feeling if we didn't go for it.

If we don't get him for that, I'd be astonished if Benfica didn't shift him on for more besides.

I was sceptical about the fee earlier in the season but not now.

He is vital to how we play in general, has a great partnership with Jota and has 14 goals with 8 games still left to play (not including cup) he probably wont be far off 20 goals, not to mention the assists he's got.

If we don't sign him then we wont be able to find a player for less with the same output and fit in our system. Should be first priority in the Summer.

He's scored or assisted more goals than any player outside the Sky 6. We'd be mad to not sign him. We agreed that fee conditional on success, he's been successful so the club therefore must be happy to pay it. I bet if we didn't take up the option Everton or West Ham would pay it.

A striker that scores in the Prem and West Ham would pay double what we are.

Especially when we're talking £70m for Wilson and Lukaku. He's got better with the move to 3-5-2 and in his prime. I think it would be a huge opportunity missed if we didn't sign him.

its not often that pretty much the whole forum agrees on something. From the posts this morining the TWF message seems to be

SIGN HIM UP ITS A STEAL

Ok fair enough, we cant loan him again, but what about a lower offer with add on based on performance or something? Are we ceirtain its buy out clause or we lose him? 38m is a staggering amount of money for any player, but even more so for someone whos 28.
18m for traore was ridiculous but im sure we can atleast get 10-12m of that back if he fails to perform.
Say we have 60m for next season and we spend 40m on raul, considering we need an upgrade to bennet, another striker and a backup at rb minimum, who are we buying for 20m total?
Are we sure benefica wont agree to say 20m now plus half a mill per goal and a sell on clause or something?

Simply put we can't. We agreed the fee last summer.

Now we can of course let the first refusal offer expire and then go back with a low bid but a) Benfica will laugh in our face and b) a queue of clubs will have formed who will offer more than what we agreed in August

We want Raul, we have to pay the fee we agreed last summer and we will.

Is it an actual agreed fee, or it is just his release clause?

Agreed fee (no idea if that agreed fee also = release clause though). We have a window from the end of the season to take up the option we agreed last year. Normally that is around a month, so after that point if we haven't signed him that agreed fee expires and anyone can bid for him

Benfica will tell us to shove it, and will go to one of the many other suitors Jimenez will have who will be willing to pay the higher fee. We've previously agreed a deal- trying to salami slice our way into a better deal is how you end up with the Brexit negotiations.

At this level, and for this player? Not really.

Say we have 60m for next season and we spend 40m on raul, considering we need an upgrade to bennet, another striker and a backup at rb minimum, who are we buying for 20m total?
I'd say that the chances that we only have 60 million to spend over the summer are pretty damned low. This would be a more convincing argument if you hadn't pulled a random number from out of nowhere.

In any case, no other transfer this summer is more important than getting Jimenez tied down. If that means there's less money available elsewhere, so be it.

Are we sure benefica wont agree to say 20m now plus half a mill per goal and a sell on clause or something?
Yes, we are, because we've already negotiated a deal with them. The idea that they'll willingly tear that up and go for one that's less beneficial for them off the back of the remarkable season Jimenez has had is, frankly, nothing short of fantasy. If we don't want to take them up on it, they'll slap ten million onto his fee and sell him to West Ham or Leicester, no questions asked.

Realistically you can put a conservative 120 million on what we will get for our efforts this season without a cup run. You can budget on that as a minimum for next year too. 30m will have been budgeted this year not next?

In the current market it really, really isn't. Based on his output, it's actually bloody good value.

I’m 99% sure we’ll be taking up this option and it’s definitely the right thing to do, Raul is perfect for us and has performed brilliantly all season. We’ll still have money left to improve the squad along with him as well, 2 or 3 quality additions is probably all we need this summer.

Fair enough if its an actual agreed fee, and not just first option at a release clause. I just hope he can continue to perform and its not just a wonder first season like michu
