Bristol City 1-2 Wolves (FA Cup 3rd Round): Verdict Thread

What frustrates me about that list is that the 3 winners which aren’t in the Big Boys club were complete flashes in the pan. None of them were able to parlay the success into anything they could sustain.
It's not a completion that really provides any sort of platform to build on. Only gives you entry into the second tier of European competition and doesn't even provide enough prize money to buy Tommy Doyle.

I quite like Tommy Doyle but I'd give him away free if we could win the F.A. cup (or something).

Precisely!

Leicester had a decent side and were getting into Europe etc
Portsmouth beat Man Utd on route but were very fortunate that most PL sides went into self destruct mode that year in the cup the semi final line up that year was Barnsley v Cardiff and Portsmouth v West Brom.
Don’t remember much about Wigans run to the final.
If you do a similar list from 1970-1999 it looks very different.
Chelsea 2
Arsenal 4
Man Utd 7
Liverpool 4
Spurs 3
Everton 2
West Ham 2
Ipswich 1
Sunderland 1
Leeds 1
Southampton 1
Coventry 1
Wimbledon 1

12 different winners, 3 times it was won by a side not in the top flight.
Non top flight sides winning it wasn’t actually a common occurrence it’s only ever happened 8 times.

Since Vitor has taken over the team, our squad depth is really exposed. I thought we needed 2-3 ready to play PL defenders, and maybe 1 forward player. However, we need another 9 AND 1-2 somebodies out wide. 5 more new signings coming in the next 20 days? No chance.
These past couple games without Cunha has really been telling, all the missed opportunities.

Bellegarde, Sarabia, Forbs, Hwang? What about playing R Gomes more forward? (I'd really like to know how bad/good that would be)

Obviously I’m not around at the moment, how did Agbadou get on ?
He's quick, helped direct his peers, and generally tried to play forward. He also overplayed things too many times and misplaced some simple passes, but I'm willing to chalk that up to having just arrived this week; he'll likely have spent very little time with Rayan and Santi (who were either side of Aggie today).

Was also probably a bit at fault for their goal as his jump in the wall was pretty poor, and the shot went directly over his head.

Tl,dr; too early to say, IMV. About as many positives as negatives.

And that's the thing - back in the day, league and cup doubles were phenomenally rare. Nowadays they're as common as muck...

Absolutely agree.

We've dabbled with having black socks and sleeves over the course of an entire season, but never (to my knowledge) had gold shorts for a season?

There was no need to do it today either with City wearing white shorts, odd really.
I like it as change when there's a clash, but no way as the home strip (which it was from 1965 to the end of the 1968/69 season).

Old Gold shirt, Black shorts and Old Gold socks for ever !

Johnstone way more at fault.

Basic schoolboy goalkeeping (and physics), don't dive with both arms, it shortens your reach. Plus he has inherited Carl Ikeme's concrete boots.

Did you insult Ikeme just for me?? You’re such a sweet guy 🤣🤣

Never change, mate, genuinely.

Definitely fault to be shared; the “foul”, Johnstone leaping like the air was water…
