Bristol City 1-2 Wolves (FA Cup 3rd Round): Verdict Thread

RAN on one side and Gomes on the other would certainly be exciting, I do like the solidity Semedo gives us though, particularly with our centre half options.
Horses for courses. Semedo is the better defender I'd say. He also lasts the full 90 with no drop off in speed or athleticism. I just like the different options it gives us.
I was trying not to turn the post into an anti Gary rant but it felt until Pereira came in we only had 2 competent FBs had to flog them into the ground. Now we've found a balance.
Lima is probably the weakest currently but still a better option than Doc at RWB or even using Toti at LWB. Young Gomes doesn't seem to have any fall off of quality whether playing on the right or left which is really useful, a more attacking/less defensive version of Jonny.

Johnstone way more at fault.

Basic schoolboy goalkeeping (and physics), don't dive with both arms, it shortens your reach. Plus he has inherited Carl Ikeme's concrete boots.
And in my view the wall was not in the right place, farther to the right as you look at it would have been better.

Couple of mistakes really. Silly foul (pretty harsh imo) but still should be under control. Poor wall positioning. Agbadou jumping and sucking at the same time. Terrible goal keeping.

It was a decent shot but not right in the corner. From the views I've seen, although Johnstone goes with both hands, if anything the ball goes between both of them.

Let's be honest, no one really knows what the colour is
Throughout my lifetime we have had different shades of orange and yellow.

After watching the highlights the game should be buried at half time. It should then be buried early second half. Had it gone to extra time I still think we’d have had the quality to get past them.
From what I’ve seen BC fans are very disheartened by how big the gap is from lower end PL to mid table championship.
To early to come to conclusions on whether the PL is becoming closed shop.
I think if in 2 seasons time out of the 12 promoted clubs only 2 or less have survived at least 1 season then there’s a problem.
Problem I see is how few players there are in the championship who you want to bring in to a PL club.

Would be a big bonus if Rodrigo can be relied upon in the second half of the season. Last few games he’s shown he could be capable of performing at a strong level. Having a better coach helps but physically it’s definitely taken him time too. I’d be tempted to play him in the front three with Cunha and Larsen (when semedo is fit especially)

Your tactical knowledge and awareness is far better than mine but would it work to play both RAN and Gomes on that left side, with them rotating during the game?
As I mentioned earlier it's always seemed to me both of them seem more effective attacking from the LWB position?

I thought Norwich had the right idea by not spending all the PL money trying to stay up and instead build for the future but they've gone nowhere since.

I think the PL will become more or less a closed shop with 4-5 teams who get relegated / promoted each season with the odd wildcard thrown in occasionally.

1966-67 promotion season?

One of my favourite Wolves seasons ever. That was great squad and Ronnie Allen was a terrific Manager.

They looked an awful team, I have seen sides who are lower in the division who would have caused us far more problems.

Until they scored (which was a late Christmas present from us) they just stood off us and let us play, and they had no leadership, pace or strength anywhere in the XI.

Indeed. Two absolutely scandalous decisions (think we could have had a penalty too but that was less clear cut).

We did absolute rob a draw at Kidderminster in 2004. That was not a fun afternoon.
Yes, that was a hard watch.

You could but where do you play Cunha, who seems to thrive off that kinda inside left role. But I see what you mean, could be a good option, as Rodrigo can hold the width of the pitch quite well which would allow RAN to drive inside.

The November 2013 Oldham game was a midweek replay and was bitterly cold IIRC. We played Oldham 4 times (in the space of about 5 or 6 weeks) that season and I went to all of them!

Good point about Cunha, he does drive from that spot just in front of the LB position often and to good effect.
