Bristol City 1-2 Wolves (FA Cup 3rd Round): Verdict Thread

Exactly what was expected. Championship team give Premiership team a 'tough game' in the FA Cup 3rd round. Nothing to see here.

Has been played out thousands of times before. Only interesting part was how much in control we were until the 44th minute as BC didn't lay a glove on us.

Thought Larsen was poor - nothing stuck to him. His 'strenghs' apparently are holding up the ball, taking pressure off the defence, bringing others in to the game, yada yada. He didn't show any of this and IF this is a precursor to a season in the Championship with him as our striker, then it doesn't bode well. He looked like a cross between a Toyota Prius and Kieffer Moore.

Hwang hugging the line looked like how we'd imagine Hwang playing if he was hugging the line. Guedes looks lost without Cuhna playing beside him.

Ag-ba-dou looked a little nervous on his debut, not awful, not spectacular as 'he went to the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees' on a few occasions.

We're through. Next.

I view a different Larsen, i think you guys burnout this player.

He is playing a lot games and full games, and most part of time only receive bad long balls. Don't have many option to touch balls.

He is losing that receive he have and that run with the ball he have.

This two manager are using bad Larsen, all time send Long head balls, and that not is the best rol of Larsen. Larsen need touch more normal balls and asóciate with other player

Larsen need first take a break some game, and touch more normal balls.
Larsen has probably the most difficult job on the pitch playing with his back to goal and being an outlet. That said, to me, he is too static when receiving the ball sometimes. He uses his body reasonably well to shield the ball but because he tries to kill the ball, it is fairly easy for another defender to come around and take it from him. Personally, I like to see a forward try and shift the ball with a first touch and move it away from the defender. I know that is easier said than done but he needs to work on his touch to be able to do that. Shearer used to be excellent at it and studying how he created space for himself would be a good benchmark for Larsen to learn from.

Hopefully he'll improve his game in that regard and if he does, he will become a real handful for defenders.

Agbadou was ok defensively, not that he had that much to do. His passing was atrocious, if we keep kicking the ball out of play and to the opposition in the Premier League we will put ourselves under fierce pressure. It's about keeping the ball.
He was better in the second half, I'd assume Vitor told him to keep things simple and play it short.

I'd like to see Larsen make more runs off the shoulder more. He's not slow.

I only listened via the radio but Larsen got mentioned a few times, his part in Gomes goal and a few other times laying the ball off and playing Guedes in.

The commentator on my stream seemed to be willing a Bristol City goal.

They had pressure in the second half but they didn't create a chance of note. The goal came from an iffy decision and the only other noteworthy action when Ait-Nouri headed onto our bar, also came from a set-piece and what appeared to be an iffy decision.

We actually defended quite well.

I was more annoyed with our forward players. Larsen got tired and the ball wouldn't stick, and Sarabia/Bellegarde offered nothing and no threat in behind.

I don't think we will soak up pressure against Premier League teams, so we need to have much more of a counter-attacking threat.

Overall, we should've won 4-1 at least, so it was a good performance on the whole.

Should've is what people were saying against Forest. Broadly speaking we have to work hard for our goals, because we can't convert the obvious. It's a significant issue. Has been for years.

That is the position of Celta.

Celta play like 4-4-2

FW Larsen and Aspas.

Have games he played too on right wing(4-5-1- Larsen on Right Wing), and dont play bad... He only need players around he to receive and pass, not is good dribbler, its a good runner without the ball, because need through passes.

He have a lot problems to receive the long balls if that balls are to head, and you guys are all time sending that type of balls. And that balls help the defense have more time to react and push Larsen. He need more power, fast and direct passes to the body or feets.

In one 5-4-1 he is so alone on att, no have many option to pass.

In Noruega he played on Left wing and score and assist goal, in the second period he move to up.

The easiest 2-1 we will ever get. Bristol never looked like scoring and we could/should have had 5 or 6. Rodrigo impressive especially 1st half, Guedes unselfish assist and a great outside of the foot cross for Hwang to blast over.

Hwang started anonymous then got worse. Finishing is supposed to be his (only) strength, but today he couldn't finish his breakfast. Not impressed by Agbadou - little actual defending to do but kept misdirecting simple passes. Hopefully just debut nerves because on that showing he is no better than Toti.

Robbed against Liverpool in 2023 as well

I may be missing your point, so apologies if I am, but converting chances and scoring goals has not been an issue this season on the whole

I think it was 2012 where the two matches against Birmingham really forced me to grapple with what was about to happen to the club I'd chosen to support. And yet it still got worse than I feared!

I do like it when we play in all gold. I actually prefer it to black shorts.
Absolutely agree.

We've dabbled with having black socks and sleeves over the course of an entire season, but never (to my knowledge) had gold shorts for a season?

There was no need to do it today either with City wearing white shorts, odd really.

1966-67 promotion season?

Our goals are normally very well worked pieces of play. We miss easy chances, we did on Monday, we did today. Both goals today game from great delivery, be it the cross or the inside pass. We miss clear cut chances. How many of our goals this year have been tap ins vs pieces of great play?
