Wolves 0-2 Crystal Palace: Verdict Thread

We haven’t been that great all year. Best performance at home was against West Ham’s midfield 3. Possibly Everton’s 2 for half a game but they were embarrassing and we still only scored from a passback and a corner.

Cant think of many games where I can think we were really good. We’ve won a lot of games on very fine margins.

Man Utd probably the best performance but they let us play. We’ll give anyone a game if they let us play.
West Ham didn't play a 433 they played a 4231/4213

Or they step up and lose the ball in our defensive third because they were closed down, and we concede chances galore.

There are going to be failures, nothing is perfect, but I'd rather they failed when trying to do something proactive rather than failing by default because they didn't even try to make something happen.

Well your not expecting them to dribble past them either. If they’ve been allowed to advance up the pitch then the ball into the forwards is on or if they’ve been closed down then it’s likely freed up the WB

Kilman's managed a few take ons this year! Whichever way it happens, someone carrying the ball past their marker or passing it around them, you need to get goal side of a few players to start causing problems.

Passing it around in front of 10 or 11 men waiting for someone to leave the door open is an optimistic approach to say the least.

I’m not referring to last week. Just saying I thought I’ve seen you call 4231 a midfield 3 before (probably relating to an MGW discussion). As I said, may be wrong.
I can't say for sure I've never said that, but normally I think I'd call that a 10. For the OP of the Palace thread I wanted a 4231 with Podence as the forward midfielder, but said that can't be as a 10 as he'll need to work back and said that might not be in him so if not then Donck should play and he should be out wide instead of Hwang

I’ve wanted a back 4 becuse our WBs aren’t good enough at making things happen on their own, and that applies to all of them. But we’ve been saying that for ages. But we also don’t do them any favours by not getting enough men forward and then we don’t want to cross it anyway.

More men in attacking positions hopfully solves all those issues.

Bruno Lambert's post match quotes are disgraceful and he can fuck off just for those.

The defeat is on him and I can fairly confidently predict he won't be our manager next season and I will give zero fucks about that.

But there is something deeper wrong at our club, there's no way it is a coincedence the football is a carbon copy of the dour shite Nuno served up in the last month's of the season. Whether it is some wider strategy (the younger age groups play the same dreck) or set from Lage and the stats team, it needs throwing in the bin.

It's fucking abysmal.

Starting without a striker, the constant tinkering, playing shit like Hwang out wide, Marçal at all and Hoever, only to blame him for being as shit as you've prepared him, was as obvious a resignation letter as I've ever seen.

We need a new manager, strategy, stats team and DoF for next season. I think the players are fine.

I'd like to see the owners fuck off as well. They've had their time and they have my thanks but they can go and let somebody else have a go, the last season has been shite under their custody.

Looking at the strategy and the accounts you will get your wish .

watching Villa play some lovely stuff doesn’t help the mood either
Watford is a must win game now for Bruno and our season . Lose that and he’s a gonna

Failure to buy a midfielder who can play in front of Neves and Moutinho and bring a goal threat and a bit of creativity has left us with the only real option there being Donk. Whilst I don’t think he’s anywhere near as bad as some he brings workrate and physicality not creativity or goals. Without that player the only real option is to stick with the formation we’ve played most of the season and everyone now knows that if you press even a little bit - a full on Liverpool style press isn’t required - we have no outlets and can be pretty much nullified.

Under Nuno there were a couple of occasions where you couldn’t see where the next win was coming from. In Season 1 we changed to two up top, last year Arsenal got two sent off and the win triggered an upturn in form. Lage needs to find a way of getting more out of the players he has starting on Thursday. Failure to do so could see us spiralling down and he’ll be gone before he gets the chance to bring in the players he wants. Stop picking a Hwang and not playing a Pod as a centre forward would be a good starting point.

Atmosphere has been tragic after those first couple because the performances have been so dull

It is absolutely dull. You are correct. It's like we are trying to suck the fun out of attending the game for the fans.

Someone on Football Forums referred to it as Peri Peri Pulisball. Totally correct.

It's hard to watch.
