Wolves 2-2 Crystal Palace: Verdict Thread

Maybe that was the little bit of luck we needed and now our defence will turn into Baresi Maldini Costacurta Tassotti.

Then I woke up

Just my opinion, but I thought Palaces disallowed goal was more of a goal than the man city goal that was given.

Just watching the goals back, Guedes FFS on the equaliser. That is criminal.

I hated him anyway so it's not moved the dial but I cannot believe any professional player does that.
True Guedes marking was non existent but he is a forward and his assist for our second goal was excellent.

Set pieces are about defending as a unit though, the problem isn’t just with the back 4/5 it’s team as whole.
I don’t disagree with that I was simply pointing out that forwards are often not the best defenders.

It pains me to say but I think Guedes needs to start against Saints. Sarabia just isn't reliable enough and he clearly doesn't rate young Gomes or Forbs.
I'm now going into hiding so DW can't track me down.
I suppose Toti can play LB and push RAN further forward, although I think he's better coming from deep.

Those complaining about JSL attempting to win the header for the first should understand that it’s a lottery whether or not Sa comes for the ball.
I saw the interview with the Tamworth goalkeeper (he dealt with everything bar one) after Friday nights FA cup win and he said that his defenders always know that he’s coming for the ball and they make room accordingly. I’m not saying it’s as easy as that but you need a plan of what everyone’s roles are at a corner. We’ve conceded so many at set pieces I’d hazard a guess that the plan doesn’t exist.

My problem with Guedes last night was that he was moving into other areas and making the side unbalanced (silly comment really we are unbalanced everywhere!). Several occasions later on we’d switched the ball over to Semedo and there was no pass forward for him. When the pass is on he’s not the best at retaining possession anyway. If there is a role for Guedes we’ve yet to nail down of what that might be.
Not defending Sarabia by the way, two terrible misses (why didn’t he lob the onrushing keeper in the first?) and after the second he was appalling. He does look to come short and take the ball and that allowed some nice combinations with Semedo first half. Neither he or Guedes are the answer.

Fair enough, that's the problem with watching on TV.
On JSL, no issue with him going for the ball but I think he has to do better, more height and distance, he can't be flicking on to the back post.
Feels harsh criticising Larsen, hes probably been the only hi-light of the season (small h)

A complete inability to complete simple passes left me wondering what they doing training as it sure as hell isn’t practising defending set pieces.

Giving GO the Saints game will effectively seal our relegation as failure to win will leave us completely in the shit, win it and they’ll keep him and one win in 20 tells me he hasn’t got a hope of keeping us up. Thanks Shi, just what you want when you raise STs by 17%.

Agree with this. Was a short period when we had everyone else in the centre and no one at all out right. As you say though, just one more example of how disorganised we are at any point in time.

When did the mission of our club become to keep Gary O’Neil in a job at all costs? It’s surreal.

Remember how Murray always used to clear house when the ball was coming into the box? Still the best Wolves keeper i have witnessed (sorry Rui)

Our biggest problem currently is when we don’t have the ball, picking up runners, reading the game and not pressing as a unit.
It’s simple stuff for the opposition to move through, a lot of championship clubs would score against us.

Just watching back the disallowed goal, trust me if it’s the other way around we start to get all the tin hat stuff from our fan base.
It’s absolutely not being overturned if it’s given onfield.
Sa goes to dive on the ball doesn’t have it under control and the contact doesn’t impede him very fortunate.
It’s 100% a foul. In the ground seeing the replay i thought we had got away with one but having seen it since the officials got the decision bang on. Sa had control of the ball and Munoz runs into his elbow which makes him release it.

He doesn’t have control of the ball at all, if he has two hands on it then yes but he doesn’t.
He’s not in a stationary position either and is still sliding so again isn’t in control.
Yes there’s contact but nowhere near enough to lose possession.

Perhaps I wasn't watching the game carefully enough (stream), but why was Sarabia deemed to have a poor game? (Was hoping someone was going to put some player ratings up, but...)

As i understand it, two hands on the ball or hand against the ball and ground or yourself is where keeper protection kicks in.

I think we got away with one there. Which kept Mr useless in charge, so maybe not so good.

Missed two sitters and look half arsed at times.

Laws of the game state he has control of the ball once he had 1 hand on top of the ball. He had 2 on top so even if Munoz kicked the ball it would have been a foul. He doesn’t touch the ball so it’s a foul anyway. No matter your thoughts on Sa, it’s a foul in every game of football.
