West Ham (A) - verdict

Did he say that ?

The interviewer was asking leading question(s) - intimating that we need new signings to fix that performance. And as said above, Nuno's correct, there's nothing tonight that can't be worked out in training.

Doesn't mean business is done, two distinct things. Equally no guarantee we will sign anyone. We can't just keep buying players, they have to be moulded into a team at some point, that is Nuno's job ultimately.

We all know Coady is slow, as DW says we need to know how to mitigate it better

Genuinely baffled by this.

To be fair. I've always thought that as well. you and your patronising common sense, I'm just glad someone else has pointed this out !!!

:neer_neer:

If people thought it was going to be easy to change our style of play then they were sadly deluded especially as we're late getting new players in and of course no pre season.
We are going to have to be patient, luckily football fans are well known for that......oh wait

I don't have any worries regarding that with Coads. He's had this kind of game before and he'll have it again, sometimes we mitigate it and sometimes we don't.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with how he played against Sheff Utd or Man City.

The only problem is that his next game is against Mitrovic (is he fit?) who's always given CC problems

I think this proves we should let Neves stick to what he does best - protecting the back 3.

Problem being that role doesn't exist in the same way for a team playing a more assertive forward thinking brand of football compared to a very defensively disciplined team looking to sit deep and play on the counter.

Yeah, need willy to step up his game now for sure

Always a risk when you react after a poor performance like tonite, but bugger it.
Firstly, credit to West Ham, who firstly set up not to lose but more importantly we’re structured and worked hard. They deserved to win and 4 nil did not flatter them, it was about right. No complaints
As for us, we racked up expecting to win that game at a canter and swaggered about all night with little effort and absolutely no quality.
I have said previously that teams have worked us out and it’s time to consider a change from a three at the back with a deep sweeper.
This is the issue for me, we are probably now the only team who don’t have a recognised pair of centre halves, so even if we wanted to change we would struggle. This then leaves us short of one player to supplement midfield where Neves and Moutinho are struggling against quicker and more progressive formations, and struggled against one mediocre centre forward who ripped Conor an new one!
5 at the back and pace in attack? We looked slow and lethargic, blind alleys, no options, no creativity and all that shit
But we’ve been here before and Nuno has waved his magic wand and we’ve gone to do wonders, so again I’m not gonna base the season on the first couple of games
We better improve quickly, the players have to take responsibility for that performance and realise that that was unacceptable.
Donk has to start next game in midfield with Boly at LCH, Vinagre can be replaced as he’s crap where we should find £20m for Telles immediately and Raúl needs a bomb up his arse.
End of!!!!!

Interesting point from someone on Twitter that today was the 9th goal we've conceded after the 86th minute in the last 12 games

Fair comment mate. Think you were right above that Traore played a different game to the others (seen no evidence from Neto or Podence the last 2 games to suggest that's how Nuno wants his wide players to play).

I also don't think Vinagre played it particularly well either. He stayed very wide. When Marcal played there it allowed Saiss to step up and influence (he has clearly been asked to do this) and Marcal would slip behind to maintain the defensive 3 shape. It's similar to how Manchester City play their wing backs - they can bomb on but are defensively astute enough to slip in so the centre halves can step up and influence.

Just a bit square pegs and round holes tonight I think.

Think the only ones tho they’ve caused us to drop points were the goals at Burnley and Sheff Utd last season, the rest were mostly down to us chasing games.

Think this is why my preferred front 3 would be Neto-Raul-Podence at the moment. Traore has improved greatly but still has lots to add. His best bits (the few that there were) tonight were when he received the ball inside and carried the ball.

He reverted a bit to type tonight: blinding pace down the flank and not looking up. Not sure why.

He hasn't started the season brilliantly tbf (regardless of position). Think some time as an impact sub might be good for him

Someone on twitter said that the four teams who played most recently in Europe have picked up 13 points from 10 games.

We've looked awful, City have, united we're so lucky against Brighton too. Bayern and PSG have been struggling a bit too.

It's no excuse but offers a bit of context

Potentially. It clearly isn't how Nuno wants that role to be played as PN and DP do not do it. It also left our left side horrifically exposed at times as PN and AT would be on the same flank more often than not.

True including cups it’s a characteristic I really don’t like in any side.
