The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

I think i just started losing my rag a bit after a while and was making it worse, i put together a decent 7-8 lap spell in P2 but was running a very heavy downforce set up to give me a bit of leeway, i'll have another crack later and hopefully i'll be able to start taking a bit of wing off as i get better at it.

What setup do you use?

I just start with whatever is default and then tweak things as i find fault, try to make things suit me better. My high downforce get up has at least given me a platform to put down a few laps and get used to the feel of the game, now i'm just going to have to start cutting away at it and changing a few others things to try and up the pace. I'll probably end up back in the pits for another new front wing shortly.

I use high downforce setups at every track, it leaves me a sitting duck on the long straights at some places, but I'm so much quicker through the rest of the lap. It's just a case of nailing it where I need to so I'm out of reach in the DRS zones.

Currently at the Nurburgring, using 9/9 on front and rear wings, 7/7 on balance and adjust the camber so I can hit the apex's easily and attempt to deal with the oversteer afterwards.

I always used to go with similar thinking, on an older F1 game i used a set up when i hammered everyone through the corners but was always the slowest in the speed traps. On other racing games i always favoured good handling cars over those with out and out speed but recently i've sided more with crazy speed over cornering. Might have to switch back to my old ways for this game.

Challenge I'm setting myself - reach the highest prestige level (15) on Black Ops before MW3 comes out.

I'm on Level 13 (out of 50) on prestige 13. If I can average a prestige per week as I have been just recently, I might just scrape it. I have plenty of work to do.

Toon Wolf is helping me out when he can by being my human shield. Not that he means to be.

:emot-fuckoff:

I'll be on later tonight mate if you want to throw yourself in the way of some enemy bullets to help me out.

I'm really struggling to get anywhere close to being competitive on F1, no matter what sort of set up i try and go for i find myself only being propped off the bottom of the leaderboard by the shockingly bad 3 new teams. I always seem to be OK on the 1st sector and terrible in the other two, thats happened on all 3 tracks so far, my team mate has always had at least a second on me.

I think i might have to put some serious thought into my set up's see if i can finally get something that works properly for me.

Happily found myself a nice set up for China, was comfortably beating my team mate and getting myself up in the top 10 in the practise sessions, then clumsy kicked my Xbox and it went off, now i've got to try and get that set up back!

Who you driving for and what difficulty?

Driving for Force India, think i had it set to hard but fiddled around with some of the driving aids and such.

Just use the setups in the link I provided. They helped me no end last year. Pissed all over my previous times by a couple of seconds in some cases.

Manual or automatic? Manual is much quicker once you are used to it.

I've got the AI on legendary, manual transmission and medium traction control.

Auto.

IIRC it was using ABS and medium TC.

I've got it on auto, TC on full and ABS on.

I was too heavy handed with the accelerator on cold tyres with medium TC, think going manual would just give me too much to think about.

What are the kerbs like in 2011?. I loved 2010 but some kerbs really spoilt the game for me. The chicane at end of Catalunya, turn 8 in Singapore and 3 in Korea off top of my head. If I had the cheek to even think about those kerbs I would spin. At first I thought it was because I was accelerating off the kerb but even If I took it carefully I would still spin. In the end I just had to start taking stupidly slow and wide lines round the corner. Really puts me off the game as the last 1/4 of a season just seem to end in tracks I spin at and becomes a pain. I don't think I've ever put 2 clean laps together in Singapore in either practice, qualifying or a race. I read early in development they said they'd changed the kerbs so you could now attack them but they said something similar about the patch for 2010.

Also, 10 years since GTA 3 was released. Will be re-released soon on iphone 4/s, ipad 2 and select android phones. Remember playing it for the first time 10 years ago and being completely amazed at what was possible. That game really felt like the future. 1 of my favourite games ever.

You can attack the kerbs now, but they can still catch you out if you don't take the correct line.

I don't mind being caught out when I know I made the mistake and took a bad line. Some kerbs in 2010 though were unforgiving. I love tracks like Monaco because you can really drive on the edge and attack every corner and I'm left thinking I was mm away from the end of the race. Then I go to Spain and a simple chicane ends my race because I touched the kerb. Wish they'd release a demo so I could give it a proper go. Only £20 on PC though so might pick it up.
