The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Do you lot start on player in career or straight to player manager ???

I'm just playing as manager in career mode, haven't bothered with creating my own pro yet.

Is it still set up in the same way as last year that you have to do 'achievements' with your created player, such as take 5 shots in 1 game, etc., in order to get their attributes up?

You get certain achievements building your pro but mainly there only attributes that pop up during games.

I've tried Ultimate Teams but its buggy to hell at present and I'm getting booted offline everytime.

I have started ultimate team but i'm not happy with my team and I've opened all my packs, so doubt i will use it much.

I'm happy with the game now i've had a bit of practice on the defending,

Career mode has serious issues around player growth so yet to start yet.

I might have a go at doing a purely player career actually, thats pretty much all i played on PES last year, see if i find that anymore entertaining. Haven't played FIFA's version of it since the first time they introduced it though so i'm hoping they've extended it past the 4 years leading up to a world cup and made the path of improving your player more realistic, that first effort you got EXP points from each match that you could allocate onto whichever attributes you wanted to improve.

Having 99 for pace and finishing made that first year at Shrewsbury a real doddle.

Your player improves due to performing certain tasks in either matches or in the arena now, you can see these in the VP accomplishment section. The arena tasks are pretty straightforward to do.

So its the same thing as last year? I wasn't really a fan of that but i dont think i can find any game mode less enjoyable that i'm currently feeling about the manager career i have going on.

My player is rated 77 outside of career mode, but is stuck at 72 in career. Frustrating.

I've got no issues with player movement, my full backs are often rampaging down the touxhlines without me having to press anything. My wingers drift into space centrally and my AM floats around all over the place.

Fifa question to those playing it. In the be a pro mode (if it's still there), what's the player rating system like this year?. I absolutely hated it in the last couple games. We want you to score 4 goals, get a 10 rating etc. Then it's the 90th minute, you've score 4 and have a rating of 10 but oh no, you called for a pass and they didn't pass it so now your ratings 9/10. FUCK OFF.

Also there's a new humble indie bundle (http://www.humblebundle.com/). It's a pay what you want for some indie PC games and this time around you get Frozen synapse (I talked about briefly couple months ago, great game) and space chem (A puzzle game that will make you feel smart as hell when you complete a level). If you pay more than the average (currently $4.75) you'll get some extra games thrown in too. Bought both games a while ago now and cost me around £25 in total so to get them for whatever you want is bargain material.

I hate some of the things you get rated down for on that. You put in a tackle, you dont win the ball but you force the player to go backwards or play to someone else, minus points. You call for a pass, the player with the ball chooses someone else, minus points. Any shot that doesn't hit the target, minus points. I think FIFA has a lot of room for improvement on Be a Pro, although at least i dont get the movement problems as much because i just lay it off and then i do the movement myself #talisman.

MW3 is actually - much to my complete surprise - looking like it's going to be worth the wait.

I'm not talking about the multiplayer (which I'm sure won't have many surprises) and certainly not the single player which will almost certainly be shite but the new survival mode, which sounds a bit like Horde from Gears of War, but with plenty of perks etc and loads of teamwork is needed to work through the different waves. Also, the tactics you need alter depending on the map you're playing.

Toon - I can see this being a really good alternative should multiplayer be really annoying on *those* sort of nights!!

And having a massive firefight next to the Eiffel Tower sounds cool. Especially after today.

I'm actually quite excited - I really wasn't that fussed about this a few months ago.

I've never previously bothered with the player career mode but might give it a try on this one. Do you literally just play the minutes you're on the pitch? What if you don't get picked? Do you also have to start with say a League 2 club and work your way up?

Unfortunately you just pick whoever you want to play for, pretty shit really, if you dont get picked you'll end up playing reserve games. I've never been very impressed with FIFA's Be a Pro mode, Become a Legend on PES seems better thought out. You play a trial game to attract interest at the start, your chances of first football are indicated, you get a wage, employ an agent to improve chances of getting a big move, theres just a lot more depth to that mode on PES.

FIFA is great, takes a while to adjust but overall its much much better than last year. The AI are a challenge, and different teams will play in different ways against you. I beat Barca easily because they gave me time and space and pushed players forward but then lost to Malaga as they stuck 11 behind the ball and hit me in the counter.

Christ, how short is the last Medal of Honor?!

It is quite short but the campaign is quite good IMO. Better than MW2 and Black Ops anyway. That's why I am holding out hope for BF3's campaign being great.
