The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Can you get one a little bigger having trouble seeing the picture...

Anyone else struggling to get into BF3 servers tonight?

First time playing MP on a console and it's not been a great start - managed a couple of rounds of Tdm earlier whilst I got used to things, haven't got anywhere near a game of Conquest or Rush since.

You'll struggle for a while yet mate - it normally takes about a week for them to get that important first patch out. It's why none of the BF3 reviews have spoken about the multiplayer - they want to wait until it's working properly.

The in-game browser isn't helping either.

I've never known one to work first time out of the box, you'd have thought it would be simple by now.

Maybe this should go in the "things that really really annoy you" thread.

The patch is already out - 167mb.

BF is notorious for servers falling over on launch anyway. They'll be ok once things quieten down a bit.

I know Toon is getting BF3 soon but any more feedback is welcome - especially on Multiplayer.

Doubt I'll get this now as there are too many amazing games I want more than another FPS, but if it's utterly amazing I may have a quick look.

I will be picking it up on my way home from work today. I will give initial feedback later. After the Beta I'm not expecting as great a multiplayer experience as I'd hoped, and initial reports I've read from the USA are that it it is EXTREMELY tough and unforgiving in multiplayer. Which doesn't bode well for my old slow reactions and dodgy eyesight...

This is a good deal. They did the same with Black Ops at Tesco last year:

Sainsburys have it for £24.99 when you buy 2100 points at the same time. Same deal on the ps3.

So...because there is 2 weeks to go until Skyrim and Steam are selling Bioshock 2 for £3.50, I figure that's a good game to take me through until 11th Nov.

Toon - Did you like/finish it? Anybody else played it?

Played it through twice. I loved it, I thought it was better than the first.

Battlefield 3: single player = good, multiplayer = impossible.

anyone on xbox 360? I play Black Ops, getting MW3.

add me please - tallulie

Will do. I'll probably get MW3 as well.

TheXBear is my handle.

I'm away on a couple of weeks hol next week and skyrim should be waiting for me when I get back. Just wondered if you'd checked anything out on the game yet - eg on the UESP? In particular

- highest magic class races and "Cheat" multipliers if any
- quickest transport methods - (daggerfall had that anchor and return spell you could use in a dungeon but it was dropped from morrowind)
- quickest way to class up in magic (eg if the spell reflect method against a wall will work?)
- carrying weight multipliers

i'm sure I'll work these out eventually once I get started but any pointers might save me a bit of time.

I'm constantly on Black Ops. I'll be on MW3 too - GT: Boothjan

A bit of feedback via text from a mate who has BF3 for the PS3:

"Multiplayer is fucking shit. Unless you really really like dying. It's no fun. Single player is brilliant."

That's about right. I spent a couple of hours last night thinking "Where the hell are the enemy, oh, I'm dead again..." Plus point is you don't have to rack up kills to earn points, I went in a game as a medic class, only got 3 kills but finished as one of the highest point scorers because I kept healing my squadmates...Play smart not hard, I say...One of the problems with the multiplayer is that it's been out for a few days already in the USA so you go and there's all these people who know the maps and have all the advanced weapons upgrades who just sit and shoot the fuck out of you. Any games with multiplayer should have a universal release date IMO.

Play smart not hard, I say

Very much how I would say to play a Battlefield game. Rush around in the open like a maniac and expect to die a lot. Play smart and try to work your way around the other team though and you can rack up kills. It's not difficult to get kills if you try to out think the other team. Work within your squad to and you'll do well. If I join a game and the 3 others in my squad are snipers, I find another squad with a more balanced selection. No point spawning on squad members who are at the back camping and being forced to run across the map. Get in a good squad that works it's way forward and you'll more often that not keep spawning behind the enemy.

I am however playing PC so with 64 players there are a lot of enemies to kill. I've not played on console but I imagine some of the maps can feel a little empty as at times they do on PC. Ages can go by before I see anyone to kill as teams just end up fighting for 1 flag while my squad are taking control of ones left unguarded. Personally I'm loving BF3. If it weren't for football I'd be playing it now.

"Where the hell are the enemy, oh, I'm dead again..."

Always been the same with Battlefield, bit of a learning curve just to stay alive for any length of time!

I'm doing particularly badly as I'm also up against using an Xbox controller for the first time in MP, see plenty enough of the enemy but I'm wasted before I've got my aim anywhere near :icon_evil:

I'm sure it's worth sticking with, enjoying it despite all the dying.
