Loan Watch 2021-22

Hwang isn't really a wide player. He might switch out there when we're out of possession so we keep shape but his role is basically to get close to Raul. He isn't anything like Trincao.

When he’s played we’ve not played a ‘2’ upfront though. It’s always Raul and 2 others, unless we play donk, mout and neves in a midfield 3 or 5 if you’re classing wingbacks. We don’t need to spend 25 million and big wages to effectively our 3/4th choice to play in the 2 supporting positions for Raul

His wages are huge on his Barcelona contract which we are honouring. He would have to take a pay cut in a permanent deal.

It would make more sense to me to spend a bit more and get Renato Sanchez. Lille seem to be playing him as a wide forward which he could do for us, I'd also think he could slot into a 3 man midfield too.

Unless we make the Champions League that ship has sailed

If we make the champions league surely we'd be looking for someone with a higher floor than Sanches? When he's on form he's superb but he's still inconsistent and misses a 3rd of the season with injuries.

I don’t think we would? It would likely be a one of season in the champions league if we are being realistic. Unless there is a sudden influx of a certain calibre of players, which isn’t the Fosun way of recent times.

Our transfer targets won’t see us as part of the ‘big 6’ if we finish fourth this year. They never did when Everton were constantly pushing the top 4

It’s quite likely that unless we get a couple of injuries a Trincao will predominantly be used as a sub for the rest of the season so barring a massive uplift in his performances we should be basing our valuation on what we’ve seen so far and whilst there have been a few good moments the overwhelming impression is he’s skilful but lightweight and miles away from what you’d want for £25m. He might improve but all the evidence points to him being unsuited to the rigours of the PL so a massive improvement like we saw with Neto is extremely unlikely. If it’s a straight swap for Traore that values him at about £20m and that would be a huge waste of limited resources. Sadly I think we will and if we do it confirms financial shenanigans in relation to transfers is more important than strengthening the team as no other PL team would pay anything like the fee being reported for him.

Leicester offered over £40m last year
In 2020 before he’d even played for Barca. He hasn’t kicked on, otherwise Barca wouldn’t be getting rid of him (for nearly half that fee) and we wouldn’t be getting him on loan with an option in the first place.

If he’d gone to Leicester we could then have added him to the list of stinkers Leicester have had in the transfer market alongside the very good deals.

A bad night for Sondergaard last night: let in 3 at Curzon Ashton and several fans are calling for the other keeper to be reinstated. Jackson Smith, meanwhile, played in a 2-2 draw at Telford on 22/2/22, which was nice.

Sanderson sent off for QPR

A full game for MGW last night as the Blades dug out a huge 1-o win over fellow promotion rivals Blackburn. Had a quieter game than usual with just one shot on target forcing a save from the keeper. Ryan Giles was an unused sub for this: looks like Mowbray doesn't rate him.

As mentioned, Sanderson lasted 40 minutes before dropping the nut on an opponent - QPR held on to record a 2-1 victory in his absence, though.

Forgot to mention that Corbeanu made a 20-min sub appearance on Tuesday, while Richards and Matheson were still missing from their teams' squads.
