Loan Watch 2021-22

There's an argument that he would have been more effective at the role Donk has been asked to play over the last few games, but I'm pleased he's getting regular football and doing well. Particularly now we're almost at full strength so he'd have been on/off the bench.

MGW under Bruno's thinking was competing with Adama, Trincao, Podence for one of those attacking roles, he doesnt class him as a midfielder in the role that Neves , Moutinho and Dendoncker are hence why he was loaned out and now plays that exact role at Sheff Utd.

Ps - Also Hwang and now Neto is fit he now is a million miles off ever playing for Wolves again. He'll be off in the summer.

He doesn't play either in most games. Occasionally he plays wide in a 3, but in the majority plays behind the forward either as a 10 or as one of two 8 1/2s

With that above I'll still argue he will be surplus, when Bruno plays a two with Podence just off Raul thats the one of the positions Morgan will be in and he's not for me got what Podence has, predominantly with a three he will never get in. Sad really he has talent but obviously will never fit in under Bruno.

Morgan is tough because he's clearly a good player but as Quirk says, where and how does he fit in our current team? Sans Neto and Hwang there's maybe a route through, but as it is there are just too many bodies for him to overcome.

Made doubly tough due to the fact that if you gave me the option, I'd have MGW back and shove Trincao out to the Blades. But the club's mind seems made up about Francisco (fingers crossed he proves me wrong and the club right, there).

I agree I don't see it really happening under Bruno, but if you take yesterday as an example he'd be effective if we'd gone. 3412

--------------Neves-------Dendoncker---------
----------------------------MGW------------------
----------------Podence----------Raul--------------

Ideally we'd be able to go 4 at the back then next season you could have 4231
---------------------Neves--------New--------------
------Neto-----------MGW--------Podence------
-------------------------Raul-----------------

Don't mind that in theory, TT, but man do I wonder if we know what we're asking for by constantly bringing up a back four.

If yesterday's defending becomes a new normal for us, we need the five. Although in fairness Sa goes a long way to sparing any individual errors by our defenders.

Regardless, Jinky's point, which I agree with, is you'd still choose him over Donck in CM if you had the choice. I don't care he isn't playing there, but when a 3 man midfield is played, you don't need 3 holding players. If we lose Joao in the summer, I'm seriously worried about our choices there (and am regardless). Not against selling but fuck we need to buy first

On a tangent from the MGW point, sorry, but this prompts me to say that Donk was involved three times in the build up to the Neves goal, and his first touch to get the ball our to Semedo (one of those rare moments where I have a great view) was really pretty nice. While I'm giving credit where it's due, I've had a go at Hwangs first touch on here before but, on a few occasions yesterday, he actually did really well with that, in awkward conditions.

You aren't just taking out a defender though you are setting up completely differently at the back. Our wing backs play so high that it's not a traditional 5 at the back system, that was one of the issues with us being caught on the transition yesterday - Semedo caught high up the pitch isolating Kilman. I think both Semedo and RAN would make better full backs than wing backs, whilst still overlapping on occasion and you get your extra attacking player on the pitch. Just need the two centre halves who are comfortable in a 2 which at the moment you'd be speculating on.

Playing 2 CBs gives me flashbacks to Gorkks and Johnson; I'm not sure I'm mentally ready.

I wouldn't. I think Dendoncker is just passable (although he was really really good for bits of yesterday) but we need a player with his physicality to balance the team, IMO. Donck is our only non-CB that I'd really say could put fear in a man by squaring up to him.

Having a midfield three of Moutinho, Neves, and Gibbs-White would be Fulham levels of paper machete, IMO.

Just popped onto a Blades forum to see what they think of MGW. Most seem to think he is their best player and think that even if they go up they will struggle to get him on either another loan or for an outright fee. They seem to think that they'd be outbid by other clubs if we choose to sell him.

From the weekend:

Morgan Gibbs-White - Sheffield United, The Championship

MOTM performance in a 4-0 win at home to Swansea. A key part of the team's attack again with two well-taken goals, and an assist for Billy Sharp. Could have had a hat-trick but missed a free header 6 yards out. That sees T'Blades up in the play-off spots for the first time in a while.

Dion Sanderson - QPR, The Championship

Played the full game in a 1-1 draw with Hull.

Renat Dadashov - C.D. Tondela, Portuguese Primeira Liga

Played 68 minutes of a 1-0 defeat at home to Braga.

Patrick Cutrone - Empoli, Serie A
Played just over an hour in a 2-0 defeat at Sampdoria.

Connor Ronan - St Mirren, SPL

A full game in the 1-1 draw with Livingston.

Jack Scott - St Patrick's Athletic, Irish Premier Division

As per Donegal's review, played 75 minutes of a 3-1 win.

Bruno Jordao, Hayao Kawabe, Jeong Sang-Bin, Bendeguz Bolla, & Leo Bonatini - Grasshoppers Zurich, Swiss Super League
Bolla, Kawabe and Jordao all started. Bolla got the full game and scored a late, late equaliser, while Jordao and Kawabe both had good chances that they missed (Kawabe's was pretty disappointing).

Bonatini and Sang-Bin both came on with 5 minutes to go for Kawabe and Jordao.

Bolla's goal on 4:00

Andreas Sondergaard - Hereford, National League North

Played in a 3-2 win at Chester. Seems to struggle with crosses and the first was a bad one to concede after he stayed on his line and the header went straight through his hands. Made a couple of good strong saves though as Hereford came back from 2-1 down.

Louie Moulden - Ebbsfleet, National League South

Lost 4-2 at Havant, but recieved sympathy from their fans many of whom instead blamed their 'shambles' of a defence.

On as sub: Traore was dropped for Barca's trip to Valencia and came on for the last 10 minutes with the team cruising at 4-1 up: didn't do much.

Unused subs: Corbeanu.

Not in squad: Matheson

No game: Giles, Lonwijk, Smith, JOS, Young, Campana, He.

How much longer is Bonatini under contract for?
