England World Cup Squad

Sessegnon shouldn't be going. If you're going to pick an untested youngster then I'd have Sancho or Lookman.

That song is older than Ryan Sessegnon!!

Who is only 17.

Whilst I hope he plays and has a good world cup, except if they play England, I really don't care about anything outside England, just like I don't care what's happening at Vile, Or Blues in the regular season I just concentrate on Wolves

Well I think you'll be let down, as they're bound to give all teams equal billing. I can't see them wanting to report live from England's camp during half time in group games that have nothing to do with England whatsoever.

I’m glad England are one of the last to get going usually we’re one of the first and end up being depressed very early in the tournament.

How old is Sessegnon?

Rumours that Bertrand hasn't made the 23.

I think squad will be:

Pickford (1st choice), Butland, Pope

Walker, Trippier (TAA if Trippier not fit), Stones, Cahill, Maguire, Tarkowski, Jones, Rose, Young

Henderson, Cook, Wilshere, Dier, Alli, Loftus-Cheek, Lingard

Sterling, Rashford, Kane, Vardy

Team (1-5-3-2)

Pickford

Trippier
Walker
Stones
Maguire
Rose

Henderson
Dier
Alli

Sterling
Kane

I would be tempted to take more players who were successful last summer such as; Mount, Foden, Sancho, Sessegnon. Not all but one or two to go alongside Cook who has kicked on since being in the U20 squad that won the world cup.

:icon_lol:

I trust Glasgowolf will only be watching the three England games (maybe four if we get through group, I'm not convinced).

One of the things I love about World Cup is learning more about other nations and their players!

TAA has had a few games recently where he's been found wanting defensively. Roma away immediately springs to mind

To be fair to him, he was given absolutely no protection that night. Even the best full back is going to struggle to contain two players time and time again.

Me too - although 2010 was utterly diabolical on the pitch, I also loved the documentaries and special reports about the venues and local areas and things like that. I also liked the atmosphere and even the vuvuzelas - it was a very iconic World Cup, which unfortunately was one of the worst in footballing terms.

I'd be taking Lookman without a doubt. He's proved over the last 6 months that he can affect games at a decent level and he creates and scores goals. I would say i have no idea why BFS didn't think he was good enough for Everton but i think we all know why. I'd only take 4 centre backs too and Walker can fill in there as well if needed to try and get one more midfielder in there because we are very light in central midfield although I'm not sure who i would take there but it would probably be Cook or someone like Tom Davies. Winks would have made it imo had he not been injured.

(Will try and post this in the correct place... must pay attention to my tabs)

Since 2006 in my personal opinion the national side has gotten weaker and weaker with this year being possibly our worst world cup side in a long time

I think this World Cup side is better than the one for 2014 that you've put up there.

Agree. He dealt with Sane brilliantly in both ties against City. It will be obviously more difficult for him against Ronaldo but I think he will be better protected (or you'd hope he would!)

I'd say that our starting line up this year is stronger then 2014.

Goalkeeper and all of the back four (now 3 or 5) are an improvement. Kane is better Sturridge, Sterling better now than then. Arguments to be had that all other positions are better now than then too.

It's probably better than the 2010 one really too. Though that is more down to Capello completely losing the plot in the months leading to the tournament. You could write a book on that

Englands last competitive starting line up in a qualifier from the Lithuania game

BUTLAND (GK)
TRIPPIER
CRESSWELL
KEANE
MAGUIRE
STONES
WINKS
HENDERSON
KANE (C)
ALLI
RASHFORD

I like Lallana, however he's started one league game all season. Not sure you can go with him. Especially if you're taking Jack Wheelchair as well.

Think you're a RWB heavy there, we don't need three. He might have the weird intention of playing Walker at RCH but even so, you don't want to overload on options there. If there were an issue at the back then Dier could move into the back three and put Walker back where he's supposed to be.

I have an inkling that Sessegnon will go.
Agree Dan, as much as I think Lallana is a quality player don't see him going which is a shame as I'll think he'll be too old at 32 for the next Euro's .
I hope Sessegnon does not go.

Roy did too, albeit to a lesser extent than Fabio who I'm not entirely convinced wasn't kidnapped in May 2010 and replaced by an imposter set out to sabotage us. Totally changed the style going into both 2014 and 2016 and went gung ho with far too many attacking players on the pitch and no balance or coherent system.
