The Road To Germany 2024

Left back looks like it is going to be a big issue. Ten Hag has as much as said that Shaw won't be fit enough to be first choice for the tournament, Chilwell is shit and injury prone and Trippier looks absolutely done even playing on his preferred site.

I imagine we'll take Mitchell who I do like and risk one of Shaw/Chilwell along with Gomez as a backup across the entire back four. That's not ideal, as you have to lose an attacking option, but given the injury issues we've got, I can see the sense in it.

Current best guess (with a hint of personal preference):

GK: Pickford, Pope, Ramsdale
CB: Stones, Maguire, Guehi, Branthwaite, Gomez
FB: Walker, James, Mitchell, Shaw
CM: Rice, Bellingham, Alexander-Arnold, Henderson, Gallagher, Mainoo
AM: Saka, Foden, Palmer, Gordon, Eze
ST: Kane, Watkins, Toney

Eze, Rashford, Grealish and Bowen are in a battle for one spot as I have it, unless we decide not to take one of Watkins or Toney.

I'd leave Bowen behind as he'd be behind Saka, Foden and Palmer as options at RW and I can't see him playing as a CF. Grealish isn't fit, Rashford has been a disgrace all season so I've gone for Eze given the form he's currently in and his ability in tight spaces.

I think he'll take Dunk instead of Branthwaite and TAA instead of Gomez (not as a midfielder even though he can play there).

I think Livramento or Hall may get a nod instead of Shaw. And hope Trippier doesn't.

I would take Wharton over either Gallagher and Henderson but he isn't going to do that so he gets my extra midfield slot vacated by TAA in your line up.

Agree with you on AM and STR.

Dunk has surely played his way out of contention - he's been woeful every time he's put on an England shirt. Excellent club player, but all at sea at international level. I'd have taken Colwill ideally, but he's another on the crocked list.

I agree on Wharton - I'd take him over Henderson, Gallagher or Mainoo - he looks a special player in a role we're awfully short in, but I just can't see him going without having been in the camp before.

I do expect Livramento, Hall, Branthwaite, Colwill, Lewis, Wharton and Elliott to be integrated from September. Hopefully Wharton, Eze and Mitchell can get in Olise's ear too.

Tomori not an option at CB?

It doesn't look like Southgate has any interest in him - suspect he won't get a call-up unless he comes back to England.
That’s very poor on Southgate if that is the case.

Tbf when he has played against English teams in the CL he has looked rubbish. Proper flunking the audition stuff.

I wouldn't mind taking Dier, he's done well for Bayern, solid pro and he's a better CM than Henderson these days too.

Can’t believe you haven’t included Dan Burn for LB 😅

I'd go...

GK: Pickford Henderson Pope
DEF: Walker Stones Guehi Mitchell Quansah Branthwaite Gomez Trent
CM: Rice Bellingham Mainoo Gallagher Wharton
AM: Foden Saka Palmer Sancho Gordon Bowen Eze
ST: Watkins Kane Toney

Ramsdale never plays so Henderson for me.

Chilwell, James and Shaw just aren't fit so I'd take Mitchell with Gomez who can cover the whole back 4.

CB is weak so I'd risk Guehi who played today with Quansah and Branthwaite. Maguire can fuck off and he's injured.

Mitchell been rubbish the other month and some Palace fans I've seen didn't even think he's Premier League quality.

Edit - look on twitter just and some of them saying he should be going and that he's one of the better lwb in the league so seems to be either mixed opinions on him or his form has taken an upturn.

He was dreck at the end of the Hodgson era, no doubting that. He's usually just a solid pro, but Glasner appears to have unlocked another level.

Henderson not in the 30 apparently (squad leaked to the Athletic as usual), James Trafford in though for god knows what reason.

Any other surprises in there as I can't view it?

Has Olise declared allegiance to France yet? I know he's played for them at age group levels.

Nah! They're drip feeding as they always do. Curtis Jones being in is the only other player mentioned.

You'd imagine Olise will play for France having played for their U21s.

Wharton and Eze in, Chilwell out. With Shaw perennially injured probably means Trippier at left back.

Sounds like Colwill and Quansah are in along with Dean Henderson and Trafford (WTF).

Chilwell and J.Hendo confirmed to be out.

Presumably Pope isn't fit either if D. Hendo is in. Presumably no space for Guehi if Quansah and Colwill are in.

That leaves me with:

Pickford, Ramsdale, Henderson, Trafford (4)
Stones, Maguire, Quansah, Branthwaite, Colwill (5)
Walker, James, Shaw, Trippier, Mitchell (5)
Bellingham, Rice, Gallagher, TAA, Wharton, Mainoo, Jones (7)
Foden, Saka, Palmer, Gordon, Eze, Bowen, Rashford (7)
Kane, Watkins, Toney (3)

I've got 31 there, but by by the sounds of it, Mitchell isn't going to make it, so that's the 30 I'm expecting.

Fall from grace for Grealish to not make the 30?

I'd cull Trafford, Colwill/Branthwaite/Quansah, Wharton.Mainoo/Jones, Bowen/Rashford/Toney to get down to the 26.

No Reece James or Ben Chilwell (25 apps) yet Luke Shaw (15) is going to make the squad not playing since start of February. Chilwell has played the majority of games since January.

Ornstein reporting Rashford and James are out.

Feck knows who is going to end up in this 30 then!
