England World Cup Squad

Not what I would choose, my guess:

Pickford, Butland, Pope

Walker, Rose, Trippier, Bertrand, Cahill, Maguire, Stones, Jones, Young

Henderson, Dier, Loftus-Cheek

Alli, Sterling, Lingard, Sessegnon

Kane, Vardy, Rashford, Welbeck

The ones in bold should not be going but I think they will. I'm not mad keen on Maguire, Henderson or Lingard either.

Lingard has had a great season, and would be a decent option.
i like Maguire, he's more of a modern day Ch, in that he is decent with the ball.
Don't like Jones, and Young not sure about he has had a good season, but urgh
Welbeck cannot go he's has not played this season, i'd take Ashley Barnes before him

Welbeck who appeared 28 times in the Premier League for Arsenal this season? Barnes is out until pre season with a shoulder injury.

Welbeck isn't brilliant but has never really let England down when he has played.

:icon_lol:

I trust Glasgowolf will only be watching the three England games (maybe four if we get through group, I'm not convinced).

One of the things I love about World Cup is learning more about other nations and their players!
I'll watch, without any real interest in the score or players, just because I watch any football, the games not with England are usually a more relaxed viewing experience

I think this was accurate enough up to 2-3 years ago but he's been rubbish when he has played of late. He's been largely awful for Arsenal this season too.

Like I say I think he'll go, I don't get to pick the squad, more's the pity.

Roy did too, albeit to a lesser extent than Fabio who I'm not entirely convinced wasn't kidnapped in May 2010 and replaced by an imposter set out to sabotage us. Totally changed the style going into both 2014 and 2016 and went gung ho with far too many attacking players on the pitch and no balance or coherent system.

Yeah I don't understand that with Roy. Although both times we had fairly easy qualifying groups we seemed to build up a decent enough system and had balance, which as you say he completely abandoned. Capello though:

- Stripped Terry of captaincy, having called him to a meeting at Wembley that lasted about 10 minutes.
- Panicked when Barry got injured
- Completely changed formation that had been successful for the team because of this (4231, Gerrard wide), reverting back to 442 with Gerrard and Lampard in midfield.
- Seemed to forget that Michael Carrick bloke who had been the lynchpin of a very successful Man United side. Genuinely one of the best holding midfield players in europe at that point. Plays 0 minutes in the tournament.
- Picks Barry for squad, he's embarrassingly out of shape. gets out run by Özil (!) in last 16 game against Germany
- Launches 'Cappello index' for the World Cup which rates players (including his own)
- Drops Walcott
- Picks Wright-Phillips
- brings Joe Cole back into the fold having not picked him for ages
- Gambles on fitness of Ledley King when Ferdinand had been ruled out of tournament (injured in tackle by Heskey)
- Calls up Carragher (who had retired from international football)
- Tries to convince Scholes to come out of retirement
- Considered calling up Hargreaves (played 1 minute that season)
- Doesn't make clear who his first choice keeper (despite it being Green for most of qualifying - sent off against Ukraine)
- Green makes that mistake in first game, gets slaughtered. Capello plays 39 year old David James, who is unsurprisingly just as shit even though he has Joe Hart in squad who has had the best season out of the three of them and clearly the option going forwards anyway

Anything else to add? :icon_lol:

It's True Wellbeck has played better for England than Arsenal.
I saw Barnes the other week discussing the world cup, had not seen him out injured

Oh man.

Picked Upson despite him being a disaster for West Ham all season (absolutely ruined by Doyle at Upton Park). Actually plays him as well. Against Germany.

Yes I meant to put Upson. He did score I guess. Him and Terry absolutely rinsed by Klose

Dropped Baines for Stephen Warnock

The list really is endless!

I can't unsee that Algeria game. I think given the choice between the two, I'd rather re-watch our 0-0 draw with McDons.

I can assure you that both were 0-0 draws.

Fake student! I'm offended*

*literally sat here in the library, desperately avoiding having to finish my 4000 word Monitoring and Evaluation essay (as gripping as it sounds)

Never have I been so depressed seeing an England game that that one.
Not even a humping by the Germans
