Wolves 2 - Blues 0 the second gear verdict thread

Bit of a strange game I thought. We never left first gear, which created an iffy moment or two in the first half, but the only moment of real danger was Ruddy's excellent save.
Second half was more in control, still the odd misplaced pass but Birmingham weren't threatening.
Costa was our biggest threat, he was excellent I thought. Was very surprised that MGW didn't get on the pitch - particularly so that Afobe was the last sub. But then he scored so hey ho.
Basically we won comfortably and any grumbles are minor and I love football.

One Blues down...One to go. In one and a half hours we play the league title and our future. A victory will be heaven, a draw or a defeat can be the beginning of a nightmare that can last years.

That last bit sounds rather pessimistic! Good luck, anyway. The match is free to air on FreeSports in the UK, if anyone wants to tune in.

Costa my MOTM too

I felt Blues gave us much more of a game than Derby did. We weren't at our greatest but we were good enough. Afobe missed a couple of very good chances but took his goal well and was nice to have that cushion for the remainder of the game.

Blues are, as always, dirty League One cunts and the sooner they go down the better, they've been lucky to escape before but hopefully their luck runs out this time.

Apart from a couple of chavs and that halfwit in the grey jump suit, the majority of fans behaved and were able to applaud their heroes at the end

Fake Jota doesn't look a bad player tbh. Otherwise thought they were poo.
We did very well, great control across the pitch. Hope Cav and Neves are OK but I guess now is the time (if ever) to get injured.

Yeah not a bad little player to be fair. There's only one JOTA though

Both Derby and B'ham had a purpose for their game, the one playing to stay in the playoffs and the other to avoid the relegation zone.
Yet we played them both off the park without getting out of 2nd gear, which just shows how good we are.

Couldn't agree more on Bennett, he has been a massive surprise this season. Great signing on a free.

I think the management have done the same with Bennett as they have with Coady and Doherty.

William Hill have us at 8/1 to finish in the top 4 next year. Have they seen Jorge's shopping list??

Yes the coaching has been incredible this season. I would have chewed someone's arm off for 500k for Doc and Coady before this season just shows how much the new structure has paid off.

Thank you but we are done. Nightmare of a season.

No domestic cups, worse team in the UCL, no domestic league. Worse European humiliation I can remember losing 5-0 in Basel.

Sorry the off topic. Devastated here.

Leo is a bit of a waste of a place at the minute. He didn't do anything particularly badly, but didn't do anything much good either.

If we aren't signing him he should probably be jettisoned from the matchday squads and let Mir be on the bench instead. I'm much more interested in giving him time on the pitch at the minute.

It's very harsh on Leo because his contribution in the first half of the season was fantastic. But he's become a nothing player in a very short space of time.

Maybe he needs a good pre-season to be back to his best but we can't give him that now. Even if we are going to sign him, he's done for the season IMO.

We know the feeling mate on here - we've been down to our fourth division in recent memory but bounced back. It could all change again next year!

I look forward to the days when i am annoyed at Wolves finishing 2nd and being crap in the CL

That'd sure beat the days of Kaspas Gorrks and Roger Johnson getting us relegated from the championship!

On the Leo debate, he offered very little today, poor movement and left us lacking up top. Not sure why he has trailed off so badly tbh, maybe he just hit a great period of form when we signed him? Not sure we will make his move permanent at the end of the season.

His movement was far from poor. By going to the near post today he freed up Jota to be 1v1 at the back and then Leo also made runs to receive the ball in shooting positions several times. Not saying he had a great game but his movement was the best today I've seen in a while. I mentioned it in the match thread but there were a few times he dropped deep into our half, that's the issue I have with him. Unless that for some reason is coming from something the staff either encourage (or at the very least don't discourage) then I don't want to see him in our own half if it doesn't involve a set piece or the last 5 mins.

Fuck me, the criticism over Leo is laughable...It seems no matter how good it gets, some folks have to have something to moan about.

Saw a few Blooze fans making diving gestures every time Neves got tackled, they seem to think that leading with an elbow is fairplay too.

+57 GD? Pffft. Not good enough.

Future is not bright. The club board (not owners, we can't legally be bought) is nothing but a bunch of idiots that have no link to the club whatsoever, and are only there to steal money from the club. Most are even known for being Sporting and Porto fans. I know it's not a popular opinion here but Mendes played a part on this disaster too. We are not a football club anymore. We are a players factory that brags to make over 150M selling players every year. Sadly most fans went blind with our recent victories and didn't see the big picture.

Even more sadly we have Portuguese "MI5" visiting the club almost on a monthly basis looking for God knows what. It's a disaster.
