Wolves 0-1 Liverpool: Verdict Thread

It doesn’t work though. He can’t just start is clock for 5 seconds every time the ball goes out of play. Let’s say a normal GK takes 25 seconds from when the ball goes out to when it’s restarted. The ref can’t decide at which point they have “taken the piss” everytime. Especially when ball boys and the crowd are complicit with the time wasting.

Ref shouldn't even be in charge of it. Independent timekeeper who works based on rules to prevent time wasting. Stopped whenever a player goes down, if someone takes more than 30 seconds on a goal kick, when a goal goes in etc.

Reality is that there are 3 teams who are in a separate league to the rest (though WH keep trying to get into that) & we really shouldn't have been at 0 - 0 v Liverpool after 94 minutes (not sure how we were tbh)

But at that point then when Hoever got the ball upfield I would have been happy to see him hammer it into the top part of the Souh Bank and take the time out (would not expect a ball to come back quickly from there so they would have to get another - if our ball boys have been briefed properly it won't happen that soon)

Good defensively & we know that we don't have a potent attack. RAN was superb - grown in stature enourmasly. Faced by supposedly one of the best 5 players in football who he nullified.

We should have money to spend, only Covid made us post a loss since we came up, and that loss should be wiped out in the following year's accounts (plus the new NBC deal more or less sorts everyone out). Our net transfer spend has hovered around £0 for quite a long time now.

I can't fault the effort yesterday, the players gave everything. We're miles off going toe to toe with a team like that though, especially with numerous first team players missing.

Just a good thing that we have the points on the board already so we don't have to worry too much if/when we do lose more often than not this month. The way we've performed lately (on the whole, Everton/West Ham aside) isn't particularly sustainable but until we get some proper new players in, we don't know where we can go under Lage.

The fans who booed Jota are cunts and fuck me, was it cold yesterday. Trains were a shambles all day too, everything delayed, no proper capacity anywhere.
No bloody hot water in the North Bank too, then the lights went out. Shambles.

All Hoever had to do was lay it off to Raul instead of going shoulder to shoulder with a defender and risk losing the ball.

It was a brainless decision to hold on to it for so long.

Getting beaten by Salah for the goal is forgivable as it was a brilliant first touch.

This defeat still hurts over a day later. I am also concerned by our lack of goals. Hwang is my main concern, he is fast becoming a passenger. Yes were all waiting for the transfer window to open, but so is nearly every other Premier club.

Hwang and Raul in a 2 is the way to go with Hwang ahead . Don’t know if it will happen . I think 352 is our best shape with no Traore and Podence behind those two . Podence has the ability and brain that MGW does not for me .

It doesn't upset me as such.

1) I thought we'd lose in the first place
2) Looking at it on reflection, we tried our hardest but ultimately they deserved to win, they had enough chances

Going forward, there are concerns for sure. Namely:

a) The manager's in-game management
b) At least one of the front three is prone to a shocker (sometimes all of them all at once)
c) The goalkeeper being a fucking idiot
d) Lack of depth/options
e) Lack of faith in sorting out d) properly

In isolation it doesn't bother me too much. We've been in a false position for a few weeks though. We aren't the 6th best team in the country and 1 goal in 5 games tells its own story.

I agree with all that but feel you’re completely off it on C but you know that so no need to respond!

Well, he is. We've conceded 13 this season, 3 are on him, maybe 4. If Jota scores the easiest chance ever yesterday then make that 5. It's not a good ratio.

He's not very good.

He is incredibly good. He is fast off his line, he tries to launch attacks, he dominates his area , he is at least as good a shot stopper as Rui , he cost 6m. He is the best keeper not playing for a top 6 team.

he is however, prone to brain farts hence why he cost us a pittance. He is perfect for how we want to play.

3 may be on him but he has saved plenty more than that.

Comparing him to Rui is irrelevant, Rui is clearly on a sharp decline. He exists in isolation though. I didn't think Adam Proudlock was great because at least he's not Robert Taylor.

He's constantly got a rick in him, this is not a good trait for a top end keeper.

I agree his brain farts are something he needs to overcome but he is doing pretty bloody well given everything

Haven’t seen it again but didn’t Jota push Saiss into Sa? He also was a massive reason it was 0-0 after 93

I'm not sure you can be "bloody brilliant" and yet also be majorly at fault for a quarter-to-a-third of all the goals we've conceded. Should be more than that too given the other times he's either passed it straight to the opposition or gone walkies. But whateves, I know I'm in the minority here.

He's an accident waiting to happen. Whether the previous incumbent needed shifting (it appears so) is neither here nor there.

From a stats perspective Sa is the best in the league at the moment

From an "I have eyes" perspective, I can assure you he is not.

Yeah I get he's been at fault for three - but the fact that that represents a high percentage of our conceded goals is also because he doesn't concede many. He's made a lot of very good saves, numerous one on ones, and close range efforts. In terms of goals conceded to xg saved he's one of the best performing keepers in the league. He's got a rick in him, but then all keepers that try and pass the ball can do that. Maybe it's because I had pretty low expectations of him, but he's impressed me. If there was a player of the season vote tomorrow, he'd be in the top 3 for me, Clive.
