Liverpool 2-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

In terms of the away end, it was appalling. Concourse singers out in full force again but don’t utter a word in the stands and pretty sure the lads in front of me were tourist Liverpool fans, they didn’t even clap our goal never mind celebrate and didn’t utter a word about anything relating to the game.
It doesn’t help when family/friends/comp ticket allocation has increased dramatically and they turn out in force for the big games.

Very true it’s definitely a mix of things that all kill the atmosphere. That away end would have been seething usually after that first half but it was just pockets of fans and even then i think a lot of the regular fans have lost that edge too. It’s sad really.

That famous "Anfield roar" wasn't really in force yesterday either.

You could see there were a lot of day trippers there from the vast amount of half and half scarves held aloft during YNWA.

Actually thought they were a lot louder than they usually are when we go there. Still not great for their position and a lot of fans leaving well before the end but definitely louder than it usually is.

Noticed the front section of the upper tier above the away end is now filled by lanyard wearing tourists staying behind to get their Instagram photos.

It's such a sad state of affairs.

Same at City, when Haaland scored against Real Madrid the fans were barely even moving, too busy keeping their cameras steady....I really hate what some aspects of football have become.

Put it this way PL clubs are not a fan of the tradition of drinking in the pub and walking up 15 minutes before kick off and then leaving without putting any extra money in their over inflated catering or club shops.
They want you to spend in the club shop, feed and water yourself onsite. Tourist fans are more likely to spend in the club shop for souvenirs and eat at the ground out of convenience.
I like the way lots of clubs with an airport in their city put a club shop in the departures, Liverpool you cannot not go past it or see on your way to departures.

More and more I believe PL clubs are not a fan of their own fans.

I cant wait to see the back of Sarabia.

Stealing a living.
I think the issue with Sarabia is, we've seen him put in this kind of performance against this kind of opposition multiple times now. When we need to set the team up to essentially play on the counter, we need players to have physicality, pace & strength on the transition - Sarabia offers none of those things. He isn't strong, he doesn't win headers, he doesn't hold the ball up, he can't beat a man down the outside with pace. I know Neto is having a torrid time at Chelsea, but yesterday is the kind of game where we need someone like him - that's why I was gutted Rodrigo wasn't involved - because whilst he's slight, he has the pace to counteract that.

Sarabia is best used in matches where we need to unlock or pick apart a defence. He's a technical player that can play passes others can't - but that type of game yesterday just isn't suited to him at all. I'd have *sort* of got it if he was on set pieces, but I don't even think he took any, did he? Pretty sure it was Cunha & RAN on set pieces yesterday.

Moving forward I think we'll see Cunha & Marshall either side of JSL. Both of those can drop deep and have the legs to run in behind or off JSL too. Plus I think JSL is probably one of the better finishers at the club and we need someone up there who can stick it in the back of the net when we're on top. Guedes/Sarabia should only be used from the bench from here on in.

Someone else might be able to confirm, but I think they stopped serving beer before kickoff yesterday.

Heard the same off a mate, said atmosphere was crap and huge amounts of tourists. Jeff's wet dream

On the subject of fan tourism, etc, Liverpool have just announced a freeze on ticket prices for next season

Frustrating with Sarabia, as his performances against Villa was really committed.
Well it was his poor pass that led to the build up for the first goal. He's simply not good enough for the Prem. We all accept he has some technical ability but that alone is not enough to compete consistently at Prem. level. We all remember his wonder strike v Spurs but he can't dine out on that every week.
