Things that make you SAD thread.

I know that was a typo Ray, but it did make me laugh, cause when I had that test done, they checked my liver...
So when the doc discussed your LOVER, what did he actually say...?

Ha ha ha-Roy, Didn't even notice!!!
As for the Dr, she mentioned that apart from the high cholesterol everything was fine, close to nominal where it should be, she did also say I could do with loosing abut 10lbs also.

Mine's high too (with a little fat around the liver for good measure) and according to the specialists it's good old fashioned sweaty exercise that's the most effective way of getting it down and shifting the fat.

Exercise is a good way of reducing it too, along with a new dietary regime, which day 2 so far is going good, no fatty foods and nibbling on a handful of nuts and cranberry juice!

When teams have to exit the World Cup on penalties. I know there's really no other way of settling it, but its such a cruel and sad way to go out.

Although aint so sad as its Greece thats gone out !

Well... if they adopted the Ice Hockey approach, we could have player skill vs goalie skill and stop all of this 'unlucky at penalties' shite!

5 players from each team nominated to do this, start in the centre circle and run at the keeper then shoot, lob, dribble around, whatever, but it's one on one. Far better than this unimaginative penalty crap and much more skill based.

Didn't they try that in America when they lauched MLS when games were level at full time?

I remember they did it in Italy, maybe for pre-season friendlies?? Robbie Keane missed one for Inter Milan just after he signed for them, if my memory serves me correctly.

They did try it. Basically you're making players run 30 yards for no good reason after they've just played for two hours....and it just isn't as efficient. It's really dull to watch as well.

Thanks for that link Dan, not bad at all, but I think you're being a tad flippant!
It's not for 'no good reason'!! It's to decide the game and possibly a really important one too.
It'd be more exciting if there were more than 50 people in the stadium too.
And they're not running another 30 yards at all, most of those 10 lads ran just a few steps more than they would for a long run up for a penalty.

I still think it'd be better than the lottery of penalties.

Me too. Just feel so bad for the player that misses and sends their team home. Cant stand to watch any of them.

The USA shoot out is the same result though.....1 person has to miss for the game to end.

If anything you probably look more of a cock if you miss having had a free run at goal for 30 yards.

What's a better system though?

Cross bar challenge, Wembley, Headers and volleys, 3 and in, lose a player every 3 minutes in extra time?

Calling penalties a 'lottery' implies there's no skill involved, which there clearly is.

Watch that video, there's blatantly less skill involved for the keeper in the '30 yard' system. Come out and narrow the angle, decent chance the attacker will screw it up. And while it isn't beyond the wit of your 7th/8th/whatever taker to run up and smash a penalty in...imagine tugboat centre halves taking turns to have a one on one with a keeper like that. They'd nearly always miss.

When you are missing your family.

But then I suppose it makes the time that you do spend together even more special.

To one of the kindest men you could wish to meet. Thank you for the memories, the matchday drinks, for the lift home when I was stuck, for walking me to matches, and for your friendship and trusting in me . R.I.P Ian.
