He was having a good race until then. At that point you know you can only finish behind your team mate so no real fight left in going forwards. Just got to sit there and defend. Felt sorry for him so glad he ends up with a point. Shame its at Perez expense given the race he had.

Good race, we're never going to see action like Touring Cars or Nascar. Nobody was going to challenge Vettel because his car,although not as good in race trim is still a class above. The quicker cars generally got past those in front.

Back to Hispania, Minardi at least helped bring through some very good talent and on the odd occasion turned in some very competitive performances. Karthikeyan is solely there to fund the team, he's 33 and was not good enough 6 years ago, in a more competitve car. Colin Kolles is also a wanker.

Good race pace, Alonso would have been closer to Hamilton if not for the disappointing start. Massa's shit so that wasn't a surprise.

Sutil is spoken about quite highly and is quite experienced now so for Di Resta to be as quick if not quicker than him on his first ever GP is very impressive.

I found a very interesting prog on BBC4 this evening about the 'Killer Years' in Formula 1. Fascinating about how dangerous this all was. It started with Wolfgang Trips fatal accident at Monza and finished with really distressing footage of the Roger Williamson / David Purley incident at Zandvoort in 1973. All interspersed with interviews with Jackie Stewart, John Surtees, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jacky Ickx and so on. Some excellent archive interviews with Jim Clark and Jochen Rindt* as well. A truly moving piece of tv, and the clip from a camera in Jim Clark's car driving the old Spa just made me think how the hell was this ever allowed to start - trees, buildings, no barriers, hardly the use of a seatbelt. Scary shit.

You also have to remember that when Jackie Stewart was campaigning for improvements in safety and medical facilities at circuits he was being regularly slated by much of the press.

I was just going to raise this programme as I caught it as well and I have to say the video of David Purley desperately trying in vain to do something to stop Williamson burning to death trapped in his car when all around stood helplessly, as they had no equipment or training to do anything is going to haunt me for a while.

I have read Stewart's autobiography and have never really been able to relate to how disorganised safety was back then, but this really brought it home.

Fair play to him, seems he wants to try many different categories of racing. Wonder if he'll stay there for a few years or try something new in the near future.

I remember it being mentioned he had damage but until now hadn't seen the extent of it. Looks lucky to have even finished the race given how Rosbergs race was ended.

How did Raikkonen get on with Rallying? I'm guessing not too well if he's decided to ditch it after a year unless he's just decided to do a world tour of different racing events to further enhance his retirement fund.

He is doing both. NASCAR trucks and 8 World Rally Championship events in 2011. He did fairly well in year one of rallying, just not consistant.

I always liked Raikkonen in F1, although he often came over as a bit of a prick in interviews. Cant imagine he needs anymore money as he was one of the highest paid in F1 for a number of years so i can only guess he's just mucking about trying different things, obviously he's not going to turn the money down but i wouldn't expect that to be the main factor behind his decisions when he has so much already.

Raikkonen strikes me as a bit of a Stephen Ireland, bags of talent, no application. Better than Massa though.

I think he struggled with motivation, he seemed quite driven at first but once he'd made his way up to the top teams he didn't seem arsed.

I still remember his 'interview' after the ridiculous race at Nurburgring when the entire grid started on dry tires in the pouring rain and tootled round the first lap to make it to the pits, Raikkonen aquaplaned out of the pitlane entrace on the final corner and was forced to do another lap, cant remember whether he binned it or gave up though. They found him on his way to the car not too long after and said something like it was an extrordinary thing that had happened, had he ever had any similar experiences. To which he replied something along the lines of, what difference does it make and then walked off.

Hamilton's been making some interesting comments recently,describing Alonso and himself as the modern day Prost and Senna whilst disregarding Seb, and today he's said that Alonso's raw speed is insane...

Really hope we get to see these three battling it out this season.

Talking of Senna there is a biopic film due at the cinema in July. Might be worth a watch.
