Spurs 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Just back and feel a bit frustrated. Which isn’t too unacceptable when you’re away to a top four side.

We looked good first half - nice and tidy as usual but nothing too threatening….as usual. We look like a team trying to walk the ball into the net - even Neves didn’t fancy shooting.

The game changed for me when Moutinho went off. He was imperious first half and him and Neves bossed it. Donk will never be anything but a destroyer - he is wasted in this team because he can’t do anything in possession. Nunes was ok but looked leggy - weird that he played 90 mins.
Semedo looked lively while RAN looked erratic - we need more from our full backs - RAN and Jonny were bang average today.
Jimenez looked like he hadn’t played for 6 weeks and Traore looked like he hadn’t played for 6 years.

Collins was good first half but I think the mistake for the goal rattled him. Looked like Richarlison mugged him off more than once and there were a few hairy second half moments. Kilman was great.

Neto has lost confident and where he used to cruise past players, looks like he’s lost pace. I was sitting close to him and noticed he wasn’t moving as fluidly as he once was - I hope he comes back.

Oh and Podence is too weak to play right up against centre halves. If we’re gonna play a false nine, it can’t be him.

We were attractive, again.

We scored no goals, again.

We got no points, again.

The chances really aren’t happening. We create nothing. We shoot from such stupid locations too.

We’ve got a good squad again, with a striker to come. It’s on the head coach to get them performing. I’m not that confident right now

Promoted teams will have a bit of a bounce. Villa and Leicester haven’t got going yet either.

The old adage I suppose is give it ten games. I just want us to get as many points as possible before X-Mas. This is going to be a difficult season and I don' feel Lage is what we need.

I’m happy to give him the time to implement his style with these players. Who knows what will happen, but it could be special if he makes it click

The shooting from stupid locations has to stop. So infuriating.

Normally I would be inclined to agree. Unfair to sack managers with players settling and all that. I just think overall we need a far better coach and this is an opportune moment.

Sometimes I think I'm going mental when I see numerous people talking about missing chances when I struggle to think of one we've created. Nice to know it's not just me who sees that we don't create and take on shots from stupid areas that aren't ever going in.

He has to be given the time to turn it around, similar to how Nuno was afforded when we went on some stinkers of runs. On the whole this squad has been hugely inconsistent ever since promotion - it could easily not win in 10 games as it could not lose in 10. It’s why we’ve never really mounted a serious European charge.

Agreed but that isn't what Bear said.

He's banging on like Albion fans when they had Tony fucking Mowbray. Lauding shite football while they lost every week.
You're putting words into my mouth. I don't like losing but performance and intention matters.

We were genuinely rubbish in Nuno's last season, much worse than we are now. It was attritional negative football and awful to watch. We barely even tried to score at times. Nobody is denigrating what he did for us before that and its a bit of a cheap shot to suggest I think Nuno was shite.

Ever since Jota left then Jimenez got injured we've been hopeless at scoring goals under two different managers. At least under Lage he has changed us to being half decent going forwards but can't turn good opportunities into goals.

It's not unreasonable to give him the chance to work this same 4-3-3 style, with a new actual out and out striker for the first time since he's been in charge. I'm not counting Hwang as he's more of a wide inside forward.

And he has turned us into half decent going forward without us leaking at the back. I do agree with Bear: he has earned the time for it to click, or to sign the striker he wants.

I have an infinite amount of respect for Nuno, but losing to Manchester United reserves during his final game was a manager good as done here.

I still believe there is a heavenly body that can come to the Wolves and turn Dendoncker into Arie Haan.

It'll come. We bossed the game for large periods of that first half. We're getting the ball and numbers into good areas, and there's plenty of attacking intent. Once they settle into the formation and get a striker in we'll be great to watch, I'm sure of it.

I just hope they spend a decent amount one last time this window and don't just get a cheaper option with potential.

That No.9 position is a MASSIVE deal for us and the way Lage wants to play. It's a real make or break for us and Jeff and the recruitment team need to get it right or we're going to struggle all season.

Firstly I’m not saying he should be sacked this minute but if was in charge I’d be getting a bit worried and looking at potential others.
Some serious nieve thinking on this forum.
Mainly thinking Bruno should be given time well this is the premier league and he simply doesn’t have it. He’ll be given time if we’re inconsistent and hover around mid table. If come 8 games in we’re winless and in the bottom 3 then he’s a gonna simple that’s the game we’re in now.
People thinking that playing well and losing to big sides correlates to us beating the lesser teams no it doesn’t the longer it goes on the harder it gets.
We’re not creating guilt edge chances that are being missed regularly we’re just very near and tidy until the final 3rd then things go wrong.
If Bruno is a tactically component guy why did things go south badly last season.
You can’t just write it off like it didn’t happen it did and he was the one in control.
Yo add to that why does anyone think he’s become more tactically aware?
The systems changed yes but results and goal scoring are still very poor that’s the most important thing.
Whether you like it or not the pressure is on and he needs wins quickly.

We also need that number 9 who can hold the ball and bring others in - that was the one thing really missing today, as much as Guedes did well. I still have a slither of hope that Raul may rediscover some form.

When he's just got two of the players he's been after to play how he wants and may well get a third soon?

I'd say getting rid of him at the end of last season was the most opportune moment if you were going to do it. He's been kept and he's been backed. Over to him now.

Strange old verdict thread full of people desperate to be right 😉

Few things from me, nothing particularly new though.

You can't write off the last 1/3 of last season. It matters to player confidence if nothing else and does to match going fans in terms of patience. It also showed a number of managerial deficiencies you can't just forget

That said you can't bin Lage after we - a year too late, have bought a team for him. He has to be given the chance to sink or swim, although for me that wouldn't be for more than another half dozen games if results remain poor

I still don't know what the attacking strategy is. We have a front 6 all comfortable on the ball, but what is it beyond that? I remain unconvinced that a number 9 today would have been the magic bullet, although it may have helped.

Said last week that I didn't know if Adama wasn't fit or cba - leaning towards the latter now after another weeks training. 1 more chance and the same again and I'd send him to train with the kids. I'd rather have Campbell come on if that's his attitude.

Why is it still Dendoncker who is the furthest forward for chances now we have Nunes? Today I can pass off as tiredness, but surely if anyone is breaking into the box in needs to be him?
