Spurs 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Nunes was constantly up with the front three in the first half to be fair to him. Probably just fatigue and being penned back a bit more second half.

Why is it still Dendoncker who is the furthest forward for chances now we have Nunes? Today I can pass off as tiredness, but surely if anyone is breaking into the box in needs to be him?

Exactly this. So infuriating.

It wasn't a Nunes criticism, more the weird way Lage uses Dendoncker

I don't think Lage is winning more than two of them and he'll get sacked. We're just wasting time and tanking a season but that's our own fault.

This. Him and Moutinho seemed to have a nice partnership going on where they’d interchange who pushed up and who sat back. Nunes did break into the box a fair bit in the first half.

Realistically if he doesn't win the next two games then he's in serious trouble. Having 3/4 points after 10 games is appalling.

Where do people get thinking that Bruno deserves a prolonged period to get it right? Plus what evidence do they have that he will?
It’s a noble idea to give him time but it’s ultimately flawed.
The board will be forgiving until they can see a realistic scenario that they’ll lose significant amounts of money.

He finished last season higher in the league than the previous season. He's had a run of good results, and a run of poor results during his time here. Both need to be factored in?

Don't see the desperation to get rid after three games, especially after he's just been given some potentially excellent tools to work with. You can see we're making genuine attempts to play a different, more progressive way.

Unless we're in free-fall after a good chunk of the season and/or he loses the dressing room, or someone clearly better and interested becomes available, don't see the harm in seeing what happens.

Such an odd debate.

If we were going to sack Lage, it should have been done at the end of last season, and for the record, I was all for letting him go.

You don’t sack him when you’ve finally given him some useful additions to the squad. And let’s not forget; he still carries a lot of respect over in Portugal & was obviously an influential figure in the signings of Nunes & Guedes (who will both be massive players for us this season). You don’t bin him off after half a week of working with them both.

For me, you can’t think about sacking him until you sign a striker. If the form carries on and the lack of goals carry on after that, he goes. I’m also sorry to say that I don’t think Raul is the answer. He looks (quite understandably given what he’s been through) absolutely miles off the player we once had.

As I said earlier in the thread, we’ve basically thrown the first three games. It’s Fosun’s responsibility to now go out and attain their top forward target (or one of) in the next week, because we have to start getting points on the board. Once this is done, if we’re still not scoring, and still in/around the bottom three, we’ll have no choice but to let Lage go.

Seems completely obvious to me, though. If we have a CF in the side, we’re probably 4-6 x points better off this season already.

We don’t have Kane in our squad. Find us an affordable centre forward.
I strongly disagree that that will magically solve our issues. It could help, but we need more than that.

I think it would actually, not only is he one of the best strikers in the world (maybe top 5?), the way he plays the ref and also would take pressure off every other forward in the team.

You don’t think having someone in the team that can score 15 goals a season will help us?

First half today is a sign of things to come. Missing piece of the jigsaw is the most obvious thing in the world - a forward who can put the ball in the net.

If your main issue is scoring goals, a very good centre forward will clearly help massively with that.

I do think our creative players and wide forwards need to improve their decision making though in tandem with this, and Lage needs to work on our offensive plan generally, and find us the most effective mix of players out of what we have.

Not a trait exclusive to Bruno, until Thursday he's been the only midfielder at the club who has the legs to get into those positions.

This is the thing for me. The mythical "15 goals" striker doesn't happen by himself. Even the best forwards have to be supported by what's happening behind them. I don't have much faith in that side of our game right now.

We might sign a decent forward by the end of the month but we aren't ending up with someone as good as Harry Kane, not unless we feel like doubling our transfer record.

They can't put the ball in the net if we don't get the ball to them. Look at Raul today, came on and got zero service. Actually created our only real opportunity with a moment of quality.

We came higher last season than the year before so great things must be ok, very simplistic view of things. Let’s just see what happens? Until when? At what point do you say it’s not working?
Explain the tactical thinking at the back end of last season v Man City, BHA, Burnley, Newcastle, Norwich and the mismanagement v Leeds at home.

Waiting to see what happens sounds like a case of fixing the roof when it’s pissing down with rain.
