Spurs 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Have I missed something? What makes people think we have changed our approach so significantly?

We have spent money this summer but have still in effect swapped MGW for Nunes, and Collins is presumably the year's profits. Our signings have been positive this summer but still not enough there to make me think we have dramatically changed our approach. Even Ashley's Newcastle sometimes spent money when it seemed like being shit would endanger Prem status.

Don't forget Guedes too, and the spending will hopefully include a striker before the window shuts

I mean, we could easily get someone in to stick 5 defenders at the back again, barely getting out of our own half, never mind scoring like Nuno used to. And we might Nick a few points ts from set-pieces or 0-0 draws.

But I'd rather stick with Lage than have my eyes bleeding and being laughed at by the majority of the league for the way we set-up and play.

If we get in any real trouble with relegation a bit further down the line than 3 games in then I'm sure Jeff will act quickly enough.
Yeah, Nuno was shit.

Fucking hell.

I thought our midfield was sensational that first half. Turning point for Spurs came when Moutinho went off as he was causing all kinds of issues.

Neves was the best player on the pitch, I include Spurs players in that. Guedes excellent.

I don’t see how you can’t be encouraged by that movement and us having 4-5 players in and around the box per attack. Collins and Kilman pushed right up too and Spurs couldn’t cope.

The promising signs are there, we just need the cutting edge.

Getting £42 million for MGW is in pure Nicholas Parsons territory. I just find that incredible.
The transfer strategy has always been transparent. A while back they were looking for investors - shame they can't get Pfizer on board.

I went out after the game so wasn't around to post or read, but very surprised by the negativity. This is the first time I have ever seen the idea of a style change or the idea Lage might be doing anything.

It's always disappointing to lose, but first half we played some very smart and attractive football. Lots to work on but not quite being threatening enough to beat an extremely well organised Conte team isn't going to ruin my weekend, the way the results the last two have.

Today just highlights the prior inactivity, as if we start with that side (injuries obviously considered) versus Leeds and Fulham then I am convinced we'd have 6 points.

The last season under him was pretty horrible. We were painful to watch. Prior to that clearly he was a legend.

I think we'd got into a ' Wim top four ' mentality but I enjoyed that season as mostly we played some good stuff and Moutinho was worth the ticket alone. ( Only taint was the Albion game ) In any case I think Nuno was earmarked for Spurs.

It’s also the first time I’ve thought a back four might work. Jonny and RAN need a bit of work perhaps (though the pace of the latter bails him out a fair bit) but Kilman and Collins (mistake aside) looked genuinely the real deal.

Im feeling a bit conflicted atm, I want to be positive but still no win and another none scoring game, however,
We played well first half, fully expected Spurs
to come out a different side second half, which they did, pushed us back and were the better team. However they weren't miles better and we still had good moments, unfortunately we still can't score, gotta hope that Raul starting plus a genuine option coming in will turn things around.
We started to lose the midfield when Moutinho, RAN and Neto were out on their feet, felt Lage made the right subs.
Spurs didn't really create very much for their dominance and were handed a goal by Collins losing track of Kane, it was a shame as up till then he'd been excellent along with Max, he's still developing so can't complain too much at his performance. Thought Hwang did 'ok' when he came on, nothing more though.
Not a fan of Lage and I don't think he'll last the season but to lay the blame today is wide of the mark imo, tactics were good and he made the correct subs at the right time.
Let's face it Spurs squad (especially in an attacking sense) is superior to ours.
Donk is really good at getting into goalscoring positions but his finishing is woeful, should have equalised after excellent play by Sa and Raul.

our play first half was good, especially in the first 2/3rds, but we seem to hit an invisible wall once confronted with opponents penalty area.

Agreed but that isn't what Bear said.

He's banging on like Albion fans when they had Tony fucking Mowbray. Lauding shite football while they lost every week.

Not to play devil’s advocate like but we didn’t start seasons particularly strongly under Nuno either (his last season aside). Let’s give Bruno a bit of time - he’s trying to change a system that a large majority of these players have played for the best part of 3-4 years. It will take time to click and bed in and today was very encouraging for me.

The most important thing is we’ve only conceded 3 goals in 3 games so at least swapping to a 4 hasn’t made us leaky.

What worries me is that the three promoted teams are not actually looking that bad.

At least we don't shit ourselves and get penned in when were pressed now.

Promoted teams will have a bit of a bounce. Villa and Leicester haven’t got going yet either.

We've always been able to knock it around tidily enough. That's about all we did today.

Lloris had nothing to do. No proper saves.

It's not encouraging because it's exactly the same.

It is no where near the same as the end of last season when we’d attack and only have one or two players in the box. We also wouldn’t have Sa throwing it out to an attacker 1v1.

The chances are being missed, sure, but the chances happening are what’s most important currently. That is a good Spurs team who we made look bang average in the first half.

It wasn't that bad Deutschy (well not fucking horrible) unless we were putting our football against a ' top four standard ' . I'm not sure we were anywhere near that sort of readiness or expectation. Hindsight and all that. I still think the team were unsettled because of the Nuno rumours and the injury to Raul.
