Either option could go either way I guess. You could luck out with an Abramovitch or end up with one of the many dodgy individuals. At least with a Fosun-style deal, you'd expect there to be some sort of corporate governance at play and if they're look to expand into European territories more and more, they're not going to make themselves look very attractive by being complete arsehats with their investments.

Or it might be $#@!. Who knows? I guess as fans all we can do is try to enjoy the ride wherever it takes us.

Indeed, I would rather a company than an individual. Pretty much as companies buy each other all the time, it is only sports that it seems normal for individuals rather than companies buying them. I'd much rather a company buy the club with a growth plan than an individual buy it for a play thing to get bored with later.

Li was always supposed to be the front for a consortium anyway. He was never going to be the sole owner.

The Fosun link seems to be the most concrete one so far, especially with their links to Mendes who in turn is linked with Lopetegui. If the club has leaked some info to Percy at the Telegraph then clearly they haven't given a sniff of anything to the E & S who are even more clueless than the rest of us!

I'm still not entirely thrilled at the prospect of Mendes being effectively in charge of our recruitment but on the flip side it would potentially give us access to the type of players we'd otherwise have no chance of getting.

A few articles I was reading about him and clubs he has been involved in:

I'd rather anyone other than Thelwell in charge of our recruitment at this moment in time, tbh.

Perhaps the red tape hold up is the FA in the "fit and proper person test" questioning Mendes's involvement, potential conflict of interests with his other players at other clubs?

Pure speculation mind but if I was on the FA Panel I would be asking that. Has there ever been a players agent involved in the takeover of a club before?

Thanks for posting those, found the Independent's piece on Man United very interesting.

Surely that would only apply if Mendes was part of the group buying the club?

Is sort of thing Mendes' new method for shifting players around since third party ownership has been clamped down on somewhat?

I imagine a few years back he could go touting players around at 50-60% of their value because he'd have company x/y/z stumping up the other half of what the selling club wanted in return for some ownership and future profit when Mendes inevitably moved them on again. Is Mendes now bringing this investment into clubs via people like Lim at Valencia and perhaps Fosun at Wolves so he can get his players moved about without having to get external funding?

It could still work out positively for Wolves, talented players coming in for a few years to showcase themselves and then be sold off at a profit, if it's managed properly then there's no reason you can't sustain some footballing success similar to Swansea or Southampton despite them frequently losing important players higher up the food chain. Problem comes if it's mismanaged and you've got players coming in for the sole purpose of being an investment, they don't fit in with the team, their heart's not in it, etc. Seems to be something like that happening at Valencia.

A bit like having Harry redknap as manager then!

I'm curious about this 'red tape' rumour. Perhaps there isn't any at all, just this is how long it takes for signatures, money and documents to be put into place. The end of July would be a decent deadline I would think.

The 'red tape' was probably just a phrase thrown clumsily around to appease impatient fans who can't understand that the buying and selling of a football club is a complex process.

I think the only 'tape' involved in this deal is the one that E&S are using to piece their story together.
