Wolves 3 v PNE 2 - a mental game verdict thread

If he was "shit" Nuno wouldn't have him near the 1st team or started him ahead of Ivan at the beginning of the season when his suspension ended. He would have followed, Dicko, Edwards, Bod etc out of the door.

Thats true, So far when it comes to evaluating players Nuno has proved himself streets ahead of his predecessors.

I am liking all the player interviews since this game. A serious sense of being pissed off with how they performed and the win simply isn't enough

I've calmed down now - I wasn't very pleased with that referee and I hope to god that he's never in charge of another Wolves match ever again, or in charge of any other match that might have some bearing on us. In fact, until he has a lobotomy, I don't think he should step foot on a football pitch ever again. Fucking clown.

Great day on Saturday - pleased that we can still prevail despite not playing at our best against a decent side and a twat with a whistle.

Bonatini my MOTM, though that staggered run up for his penalty seemed to take forever...!

Everybody matures at a different rate. I think people are being a little harsh on Bright. I think Nuno got it wrong bringing him on as it really should be Marshall who has the expereince and can play as one of the front 3.

Bright's worth persevering with until he comes good and I don't think he's the sort of character we should be sending on loan especially as he maybe an immature 19 year old lad. And I think we all forget he's 19 and think he should be acting way more mature than he actually is. He's still just a kid and a kid with wonderful talent who will take a few years to put it all together.

Yeah but you can hardly compare how the 2 have got to where they are. Vinagre no doubt has some brain but he's been coached by top quality coaches since he was how old. Bright unfortunately hasn't had that and you can see that in his game but it doesn't and shouldn't detract from the fact that he's a gifted footballer with great technique who could be very good with Nuno and our coaching staff now helping him. He's probably had very little coaching when he as young if any and the coaching he got here has been shown to be well not great put it that way.

Agree with both of you guys really. I think we signed Bright at 14/15, so in terms of professional coaching he would be quite far behind someone like Vinagre (who is of a different level anyway - like Costa). I really enjoy seeing us produce such a talented, creative player through our youth system. Nuno clearly rates him.

The problem for Bright (and Ronan to a certain degree), is that he's behind such talents as it is and himself needs a run of games to really show his talents - which he was able to at the start of the season with Costa injured and Cav suspended and not quite fit either. And he did very well in those games. For that reason a loan spell would be beneficial but if the manager of the team we send him to ends up not liking him or is a dinosaur then it will be a waste of time.

If Nuno likes him, I think he will want to keep him in the squad for what is a physically demanding season. He will get his chances again at some point.

He came to this country from Nigeria I think at 15 so really had nothing of note in terms of footballing development before joining Wolves. His progress at the club has not been all plain sailing, he went missing for a while if I recall. The club work with him day in day out and he has been in the squad all season and when you consider the options the club have in the position he plays, it is no mean feat that he is in and around that. Sending him out on loan to play with inferior players will do very little for him as he needs to have the chance to force his way into this team.

Obviously he’s not shit (any player playing professional football obviously isn’t). It wasn’t just his play on the ball that wound me up, it was him being a lazy shit that did it. If you’ve just come on and under heavy pressure do some fucking running. Especially when Neves, NDiaye and Saiss are busting their balls.

Young player, been out the team a bit recently, fresh legs, given the ball away a few times. You’d think they’d be doing everything to make an impression and try hard. You’re only allowed to not try and be an arrogant cock if your Cristiano Ronaldo, and even he will sprint back and win the ball when he’s not blaming the ref.

Weird how we all watch the same guy and get different things out of it, I thought Bright did we quite a bit of tracking back and getting stuck in - definitely more than Costa. He looked to me as though he was sent on to keep the ball and wind time down.

After the 3 on 3 situation, his head went down and he strolled back and was about 20 yards offside when we won the ball back...thats all I can remember in the not tracking back area

Think we need to learn how to run the clock down a bit better. We will be in that position hopefully more often. Felt like they were still trying to counter attack ha. Calm it down a bit

We were trying to counter. Against Villa at 2 up, we ran the clock down and that is why we put Marshall on but against Preston as we were 1 goal up and they were throwing men forward, we tried to hit them in the spaces or make them hold back a player as we still had 3 in very advanced positions. Pretty pointless trying to defend with 11 men when they are pushing forward and in your face the moment we got the ball, all but inviting them to score the 3rd. It kind of worked, as we could scored a couple in the final 10 minutes but decision making in the final 3rd let us down.

So that shows you the attitude he must change to succeed, on that occasion IIRC he was still strolling back when we got the ball back then he was out of the game. You can't excuse that he was a sub. He is another young man "too much too soon" it must be hard to keep yourself focussed thats a fact.

Unless he was told to stay up top regardless because Nuno wanted to ensure we had an outlet for the counter. It wasn't as if the ball was in the middle of the park.

There's way too much speculation about his attitude from people who don't know him, don't work with him and are basing their assessment on barely any evidence.

He's a very talented 19 year old trying to forge a career and he is getting criticism from the stands but support from the club. I know whose opinion I would value more.

Nail on head.

He's an exciting prospect, yes he is 19 and will make mistakes both on and off the field, his problem is he's dropping down the pecking order, no way is he getting in in front of Leo, Jota, Cav or Costa.....so when is he going to get 1st team gametime

He needs a loan move to get experience. That should help him learn how to make those split second decisions.

Walsall / Shrewsbury would be ideal as he could stay local and keep some consistency in his life.

Except he did get in the first team ahead of Cav and there is no way all those will avoid injury for a whole season. He’s in the squad on merit and if we let him go out on loan it weakens our squad to the benefit of someone else. A loan in the lower league is no good for him.

Agree with this. He needs to watch and learn from the players ahead of him. Cav is a great one for him to look at, especially for decisiion making and vision in the area and then add that to the qualities he has. Nuno clearly believes in him and uses when he can.

Problem now is that he has skills, but no awareness - needs time in real playing conditions to allow that to come through (if it can, and thats not a given that it will).

We have a front 3 or 4 who are ahead of him in development so he won't get that much playing time - loaning him out will weaken the squad, but he needs regular games to refine the technique if that is going to happen.

On the fence with him at the moment, but a dilemma
