Wolves 3 v PNE 2 - a mental game verdict thread

No, he really really wasn't, which is why he got an England cap and we got £11m for him. One dimensional yes, but in the PL he was an exciting pivotal part of how we played, I enjoyed watching him and look back fondly on his time with us. Just because we now have technically superior players isn't a reason to suddenly become all pompous.

Looking back on it now Matt Jarvis was pretty shit wasnt he.

Yeah in reality he was. He had a spell where he was a massive player for us but there are always players like him that have a spell of over performing and then go back to what they are and he was a Championship player. The international cap and the price tag say more about England and then West Ham. He did give his all for us though and was part of a good side that got promoted.

Ok dad.

I find this a bit disrespectful TBH Slink - Jarvis was one of the few members of our Championship winning squad to actually look like a Premier League player which deservedly saw him become the first Wolves player since Bully to be capped for England.

The bit in bold is incredibly unfair.

He'd have done better after he left us if West Ham played him on the correct side, and if he wouldn't have suffered with injury as often as he has. But this topic seems to be teeming with revisionism.

Agree. One dimensional he was, but full backs were scared stiff of him for a while in the Premier Leagye. Teams would often double up on him, which worked well because he didn't offer much unless we could isolate him 1v1 with the full back. I really liked Jarvis though, he worked bloody hard too. What was strange actually, and this may have just been in comparison to how shit the rest of our team was by this point, when we got relegated I think he scored 7 in his last 14 games, and generally looked like he had improved his game all around. Then Allardyce bought him...

Is he definitely injured or just out of favour? Norwich fans don't rate him at all.

I hated Kightly for what he did, however he was head and shoulders in nearly all departments over Jarvis. Lets not forget Mo Camara was fast.

I liked Jarvis, very one dimensional but he had pace to burn and despite only really having one trick he got most of his opponents to fall for it time after time. He wasn't England class but earned his call up due to a lack of options (sorry Langers).

He and Kightly marauding down the wings and cutting inside for fun against Forest is still one of my best Wolves memories.

Are you actually comparing Jarvis with Mo Camara :icon_lol:

Kightly was the more talented footballer for sure. He could beat players down the wing or come inside and combine, but he never actually did it in the Premier League because of injuries. Jarvis was far more successful.

Before my time sorry...

Jarvis was probably our most successful player over our 3 years in the Prem. He was definitely limited though and has done nothing since he left (5 years ago now?).

I don't agree that he failed at WHU because Allardyce played him on the wrong side. If he couldn't adapt to such a basic positional change as that then it's a black mark against Jarvis, not the manager.

Jarvis was 90% (obviously Kites too but with his injuries and whatnot I guess I remember him less) of our creativity for quite a while pre-Sako so he wasn't exactly bad but looking back he should have gotten more assists and goals than he did.

I didn't think you'd been following Wolves that long Alan? Jarvis in his prime was 6-9 years ago.

Prime Jarvo was before I could keep up very well but I've done my share of homework from roughly 2008 on.

You'd be right though in that I mostly think about things in terms of 2011 on.

Agree with this.

There are plenty of players from our 3 seasons in the Prem I would class as shit. Matt Jarvis is certainly not one of them. He was no Kightly though...
