Wolves 3 v PNE 2 - a mental game verdict thread

Jarvis had issues playing on the wrong side when he was still at Wolves, too, especially when Mick couldn't figure out which of him and Hunt to put on the left.

There was a very simple solution to that issue that Mick clearly didn't see! I think Hunt had about 3 good games for us in the Premier League...

Jarvis was equally aware of his limitations. When we went up, and especially when Kightly got injured, Jarvis knew he was the main outlet for us. He got his head down and worked harder, to make the most of what he had, and improve on it. He gave us good service, and definitely improved his contributions each season. If I were to be ultra critical, he didn't score enough goals. With his pace, he really should have scored more goals (for us, and other teams). He also carried himself like a professional, not like fucking headsgone, or uber cunt kightly.

I remember being excited when he was called up by England, and thought there weren't really any better options available at the time.

I loved Jarvo, really exciting to watch and fast as fuck over short distances. Things are different now and we have a completely different style of play but saying he was shit is wide of the mark IMO. If he was a better crosser of the ball he wouldn't have stayed with us as long as he did.

Nobody is saying he was shit as far as I can see.

Looking back on it now Matt Jarvis was pretty shit wasnt he.

Yeah in reality he was. He had a spell where he was a massive player for us but there are always players like him that have a spell of over performing and then go back to what they are and he was a Championship player. The international cap and the price tag say more about England and then West Ham. He did give his all for us though and was part of a good side that got promoted.
.

Jarvis was very limited but made the most of what he had. He wasn’t even that quick as in top speed, just acceleration was all he needed. Get completely stationary against the defender and then knock it down the line and swing your left foot at it. Literally a pitching wedge to the back post. Fletcher knew what would happen and just peeled off to the back post to get a header in on goal.

He crazily developed the ability to cut inside and use his right foot for about 10 games the end of the season we got relegated and that somehow made West Ham spaff £10m on him. That was certainly a purple patch and not much else.

Oh well it sparked a good debate

I find this a bit disrespectful TBH Slink - Jarvis was one of the few members of our Championship winning squad to actually look like a Premier League player which deservedly saw him become the first Wolves player since Bully to be capped for England.

The bit in bold is incredibly unfair.

He'd have done better after he left us if West Ham played him on the correct side, and if he wouldn't have suffered with injury as often as he has. But this topic seems to be teeming with revisionism.

I was never his biggest fan when he was here to be honest although he was one of our more important players in the Premier league. Always thought he was a one trick pony that relied on his acceleration but used it quite effectively at times. Obviously he had a decent couple of years for us but his crossing wasn't good enough and he didn't score enough goals until his last season when like Punts said he suddenly got the ability to cut inside and shoot. He was actually fantastic for the last few months of that season.

I don't see how the bit in bold is unfair. He wouldn't have got near another "top" international side at that time or before it or since. Like i said that's not his problem he was what he was but no way should he have been playing for England although incredibly proud of him i was for him doing it while playing for Wolves. England have had plenty of these players though that obviously aren't international class but a patch of form gets them in the squad and possibly a cap. Again having seen him play 3 years in the Premier League for us the £11 million fee was far too much for what he was again nothing against him but West Ham really shouldn't have been bidding anywhere near that.

As i said while he was effective for us in reality he wasn't that good imo if you break his game down.
