Wolves 2-1 Chelsea: Verdict Thread

I was impressed with Gallagher, he had a good game.
Chelsea fans thought he was shit and a walking red card waiting to happen.

He was decent in the first 15 mins I thought until GON made the adjustment.

Good three points and there’s scope for rapid improvement - simply stop trying to assist the opposition.

Lemina was outstanding and Gomes had a classic game of two halves - first half poor, getting caught in possession and generally given a hard time by Chelsea’s midfield, second half he was everywhere.

I’m really concerned about Hwang as if like today he doesn’t take his chances he offers next to nothing. Falling over backwards every time he’s backed up against a defender is now his standard tactic, it hasn’t worked before, it didn’t work to day and it won’t work in the future.

RAN was excellent today - his willingness to run with the ball really gets us up the pitch.

Overall we rode our luck and great to see Sterling booked for diving. He really is a player it is easy to dislike.

'twas a very festive game.
A Christmas miracle that we took numerous corners which beat the first man

Chelsea provided not 1, but 2 donkeys and played them up top

We even had an appearance from Sant...i

Merry Xmas all

Gazza in his BBC interview just drops this nugget in at the end when talking about going toe to toe with a big team like Chelsea:

"We turn the ball over a lot because I ask them to do complicated things. I ask them to act and behave like a big team."

Not sure we have the technically gifted players to always do that. And like I said in the match thread it could be a case of TMI sometimes.
I think one of the best aspects of our game this season is nicking the ball in dangerous areas.
People seem to think we've been lucky a few times by the opposition giving the ball away but I think we create that by our aggressive tackling and pressing when the opposition have the ball on the edge of their own box. Cunha, Lemina, Hwang and Gomes are really good at this.

You reckon?

Clatters around the pitch like Dave Edwards with no quality.
Thought he outfought Gomes several times and used the ball well.

Gomes did improve as the game went on, but his early form is a distant memory.

The theory was that GON was incapable of addressing things tactically mid game, well he did that well today. I'm not sure there was anything wrong with RAN, just think we used it as a "time out", and we improved a lot after that, we were sluggish and over run in the first 15-20 though.

We also started well after half time.

Strange game, not a lot of quality, lots of mistakes from both teams, Cunha really quiet.

We were lucky to get away with a couple of mistakes, Gomes, Sa namely, then we did get punished for Kilman falling asleep.

Lemina comfortably MOTM, RAN played well too, Sarabia showed glimpses as well.

Really good win that.

Cheers. Never going to be given that. Arm is tucked in and in a "natural" position. According to how they interpret the rules any way.
“Natural position” is as fucked a baseline as “clear and obvious”.

Again most of Chelsea’s chances came from our gift wrapped mistakes and a better team would have been at least two up at half time had it not been for some great defending and a Sa save…..and then again with 30 seconds of the first half remaining he had another brainfart to gift another chance

Thought we did okay second half but only again because Chelsea are useless in front of goal.
You seem to have failed to mention all of Chelsea's mistakes, how many missed passes, how many times caught in possession.

Oddly I enjoyed the game. Not through any particular quality.

GoN keeps putting Hwang through the middle and he just can't play there. He can't hold the ball up and can't link play, he also makes bad runs behind defenders. Cunha looks lost on the left.

It wouldn't have taken much to swap them around and give the Chelsea defenders a different problem.

Semedo, Lemina, RAN and João all very good second half. Sarabia neat and tidy and played a lovely through ball for Hwang to fuck up

Toti, S.Bueno and Cunha all decent without being good.

Kilman, Dawson, Sa and Hwang were dreadful today.

Looked a penalty for Hwang as Silva (?) Just pulled him over when he's trying to get back to his feet.

But it was exciting and we did create plenty. Good to get the win and 3 points.

Don't think I'll ever sing Gary O'Neil's barmy army.
By saying you don’t think you’ll ever sing GoN barmy army, is that simply because you don’t want to, even when he does well?

You make some decent points regarding him, but it does seem you would struggle to give him any credit at all, even when deserved.

Today we rode our luck first 30. Were best team for next 45 mins or so. Scrappy game, few moments of real
Quality but felt we deserved the 3 in the end

Couldn’t agree more.

Gallagher was shit today - did absolutely nothing. It’s deceptive though because he runs around a lot.

He’s slow, shit passer and his goal tally is crap - despite all the hype.

Don’t get him at all.

Compared to Gordon at Newcastle. Does everything Gallgher is meant to, but infinitely better.
