Wolves 2-0 Man Utd: Verdict Thread

What an amazing transformation. From rabbits in the headlight to complete confidence. It doesn't hurt that we have played two really poor teams in VP's first two games, but players are confident on the ball and in each other. Sa looks like a PL keeper again. And if Doc keeps playing like that, Jeff will put his chequebook away again.

A quick word or 2 on Utd. In previous seasons you always had to stay 110% focused against them - switch off for just one second and they had the players who could and would punish you. This Utd was nothing like that - mediocre players, devoid of confidence, couldn't score in the proverbial brothel. On that performance a bottom half of the table team. They are not in a relegation fight, but it looks like a huge challenge for Amorim. Also those shirts - more Sunday morning than one of Europe's biggest names.

A fantastic way to spend Boxing Day evening and all was set under the lights with a fog swirling above the pitch for Vitor's home debut.

The performance was noticeably more solid and organised than the shambolic displays we have witnessed during a nightmare 2024.

The atmosphere was thumping and a connect between the team and the fans has returned.

It was good to get to half time level but in truth, United were pretty toothless and it feels as if we are competing again under Vitor rather than doffing our caps to the opposition as if we shouldn't be on the same pitch.

Cunha was imperious again and what a goal, direct from a corner then unselfishly passing to Hwang at the end to put the icing on a delicious Christmas cake.

Top performances all over the pitch, players like Sa look transformed under VP. The defence coped well with any attacks United could muster and the midfield duo of Gomes and Andre are working well together.

Again Vitor made full use of his bench which is helping him to get a look at all the tools at his disposal.

The transformation in just 2 games highlights the need for top management and support staff at this level. Not many had left by the full time whistle and there was a party atmosphere with fans dancing to the Quo and belting out 'Ohhhh Vitor Pereira' as the man himself fist pumped the South Bank, the whole thing was reminiscent of the Nuno days and it felt fantastic to experience it again.

Who knows what the coming months will bring but I truly feel we stand a fighting chance now. Under O'Neil I had no confidence we would win any game, now we look ahead to the Spurs game and feel we can win it.

2 wins, 5 goals scored and 2 clean sheets - a dream start for our new man with the same players that had forgotten how to win and were shipping goals for fun. What a Molineux debut for Vitor, he no doubt feels like one of the pack already.

Happy days for now with some much needed feelgood factor back, let's build on this.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but Cunha’s run that lead to Fernandez’ first yellow was incredible. He seemed to go past half their team and rode a couple of challenges. Whilst it could be construed as a soft yellow if taken in isolation Rat Face was the one who finally stopped him and after a run like that a yellow was fully deserved.

Yeah it was a fabulous run. It was definitely a very soft yellow, I'd have been raging if it was one of ours. Luckily cos he's an arrogant ratty twat he decided he could get away with a nasty challenge later on. Luckily Semedo wasn't hurt.

Quietly Santi is making himself first CB on the team sheet (we still need reinforcements).
Every time I see him he seems very steady. In a 3 or maybe with a dominant, athletic CB next to him he'll be fine this season. Or is that just blind hope?

I've thought this, and yet seen criticism from him quite a bit (not about yesterday)

I really enjoyed how dominant, aggressive and physical both him and Doc were in aerial challenges (it may not surprise you to learn I love a good aerial battle...)

On a similar note the Larsen and Maguire battle was great, loved that. They both gave as good as they got. Must have been great fun.

Tbf the whole defence has been garbage all season, maybe just needed some actual coaching.

Apparently that win puts us on 117 premier league wins, the team on 116 is West Brom.
The United forum seems to think they’re in a relegation battle, need a complete clear out of the dross players they have, unlikely because of the stupid wages they’re on.

Ten Haag, or more specifically signing all the players he wanted, has done a lot of damage to them. As for relegation they are on for 46 points, the relegation battle is between the current bottom 6 even if this is probably the worst Utd team since the mid 70s

Just saying what their forum thinks, you know the people that pay to watch them and been fans for years and may have a bit of insight

I think the thing with Santi is that his biggest problem (IMV) is that he may legitimately be slower than Berra. Better organization will go a long way, but there are always going to be players quick enough to exploit that at this level, even if Santi is in the right spot.

He seems a perfectly reasonable buy at the £8m (IIRC, maybe in €) we paid, IMV, but one that will likely be in the “replaceable” camp for the duration of his time here, much like Toti (though for quite different reasons, obviously).

Berra was not that slow.

Berra was not that slow.
That’s not how I remember him but suit yourself, pick an infamously slow CB from times past and Santi is probably slower.

If you believe what LL said at the time he was only ever signed for squad depth and also would have been sent out on loan if we'd signed O'Shea. As a recruitment strategy I think that's flawed, but for what they believe he is then he's serving his purpose.

For probably the 3rd year running I hope our starting centre halves next season aren't currently at the club

I’d say Lawrie Madden, way before your time, he made Santi look like Usain Bolt.
Missed his calling as an American civil damages attorney; hell of a name.
