Wolves 0-2 Southampton (FAC): The Verdict

Shit weather, shit lockdown and a shit performance from our favourite team. What a time to be alive....

blimey, if being disengaged while doing your job is a crime we’re all fcked .
As long as you actually do the work then whether you're engaged or not doesn't matter a huge amount - it would be preferable if you were, obviously. Most people are probably disengaged because they're in jobs they don't really want. I'd hope that isn't the case here.

When your work performance starts to deteriorate and it looks like you either don't want to or don't know how to turn it around, then that's generally not a good sign.

Good job fans weren’t in tonight as that would have been toxic and the anger would be warranted.
It’s things like this that angers a fan base, just do not understand the mentality of what we were even trying to do tonight.
Southampton leaked 12 in 2 games and they’re given the easiest night they’ll ever have, hate to say but we looked totally inept going forward tonight.
If you’re swapping your front three why bring them all on before 70 minutes with an intention of getting an equaliser and meaning them playing 30 minutes of extra time.
Are we seriously prioritising coming mid table over a cup run? Or is he that under confident with his fringe players that he still thinks we could get sucked in with a few injuries.
Not just young fringe players who were terrible tonight Moutihno, Donk and Neves were AWOL tonight.
All Nuno’s done is put himself under pressure to get a result on Sunday reality is we’ll lose again. We frankly look a poor, poor side and have done since early December.

on sunday i want us to release all handbrakes and try to score as many goals as possible..win or lose i dont care, just have some fun, always more fun attacking than defending anyway

Just finished watching the match 'live'. Wish I hadn't bothered. As soon as I saw the starting 11, I knew what sort of performance to expect - except we have to try and keep it semi-positive on here otherwise we're "writing off the teams chances before a balls been kicked". The reality is, we all knew exactly what to expect with MGW and Vitinha both playing out of position - and with Fabio up top by himself again.

If I have to watch Fabio bloody Silva start another game for us in the next 2-3 years, it will be too soon. I'm sorry. I know he's 18 - but I have no interest in watching someone plod around the pitch who has no pace, doesn't ever win a header, doesn't hold the ball up, can't shoot, is lightweight so constantly loses the ball... £35m. Christ. Initially I felt sorry for him - now I'm past that and I just get frustrated watching him.

Vitinha has started a couple of games and been completely anonymous in both. Feel for him a bit tonight, because he's out of position again (cheers Nuno) - but he's another who looks lightweight and doesn't seem to excel in anything, really.

79 minutes for our first shot on target tonight. It's a pathetic performance and I genuinely hold out very little hope in us turning them over in the league on Sunday, which is presumably where Nuno has put all of his eggs after seeing the 'performance' tonight. Rancid stuff.

Did you notice that Silva set up MGW with a sublime pass?

meanwhile Barnsley attacking the hell out of chelsea and pressing high

We keep playing the same way and making the same mistakes and then listening to the same platitudes game after game. We've regressed horribly this season, especially offensively.

What are we looking to learn from this season? What's our game plan for next? Clinging onto our pipe dreams of our mythical 2024/25 dream team is scant comfort
We didn't play the same way at all.

First half Vitinha and MGW played very narrow and the wing backs played wide. KJH had acres of space.

In patches some of the interplay was lovely to watch but the final ball was appalling, Moutinho and KJH guilty.

Some of the forward passing from the back 3 was superb and Neves when further forward linked some lovely balls into MGW.

Fabio was abysmal, no strength, no pace.

Second half we park the two Central midfielders on Saiss's toes and isolate MGW and Vitinha completely whilst dragging both WB's into a flat back 5. Terrible stuff from Nuno and his staff.

We then do revert to the same horseshoe by bringing on Neto and the terrible Traore.

Vitinha can't play as an inside forward/ 10 as he doesn't have the pace and isn't good receiving the ball with his back to goal. He's far better deeper where he can pick passes but for some inexplicable reason Nuno left Moutinho on who was clearly spent.

Silva isn't a striker who can lead the line but he looks as though he'd be decent if we play a two up top and he can go deeper to slide those little balls through he's pretty good at.

WJ looks utterly pissed off trying to lead the line with nobody near him and I don't blame him.

This was bad management by Nuno and he has to win at the weekend or he'll be on borrowed time.

I'm actually pissed off after that, it just wasn't good enough from the team selection on wards. As i said on the matchday thread the front 3 were sent out to fail and the rest of the team with that really. I get that some don't think Fabio is anywhere near ready and there were times tonight where he got the ball and played a couple of really bad passes but there was also the time he played in MGW and the shot over which i think Bednarek did actually block which is what he's about for me. WJ comes on and the matchday thread is all happy because we've got a player on to hold the ball up, how many times did he do it? zero i think. Again i don't think that's all his own fault, any ball up to him was a ball he couldn't win and then we pretty much went back to give it to Neto or Adama and hope so WJ has no chance of getting in to the game. Doesn't matter who was upfront for us tonight they would have been labelled shit by most i think.

The main point of all that is that yes we miss Raul because he has a specific skill set but also that right now Nuno isn't good enough and relying on one man to be so good at doing that particular job just doesn't make sense. There is no plan at the moment when we have the ball and its proving the one we did have relied on a front man that was ridiculously good at it. There's a few Nuno out shouts on twitter and i can fully understand it, you can actually break us down tactically to the point where it's hard to want Nuno to stay in any footballing way at all. Great man but right now he's failing at his job, he said the players need to perform better but he needs to help them do that.

Annoyed to put it lightly.

We've gone from missing out on Europe to Pulisesque.

I dont mean that stylistically but a team 14th in the league with literally fuck all to play for in the league throwing a cup game. Say what you like tonight is straight out of the playbook of Pulis, Hughes, Bruce or any one of those utter charlatans.

Fuck off with resting the players excuse too. Because we almost certainly have a midfield two of Neves/Moutinho/Dendoncker on Sunday who all played 90 minutes tonight so the midfield haven't had any rest whatsoever.

Still, Coady's passing game to Kilman should be on point come Sunday afternoon.

Nuno has put himself and the team under immense pressure on Sunday now. Even if we win i don't think it comes close to justifying tonight.

The only positive from that shower of shit is that Sundays opponents haven't had the opportunity to play themselves back into form.

Oh.

For future tea time games, I feel like we could probably pre-warn you to not bother and save you the misery...

That’d be lovely, although the last one we beat Arsenal so you never know 😂

Spot on. At least you noticed that Silva played the pass of the match. Pity it was to MGW.

Colin Taylor played for England U18's, not comparing him directly to Fabio, but the certainty from some that he will come good seems to be more that they've took a position they feel entrenched in than any real factual evidence. I described it in the Summer as a vanity project and it remains so. Now vanity projects aren't necessarily bad, they can pay off, but the first 6 months have been poor even though he's been exposed more than the plan would have been
