Wolves 0-2 Southampton (FAC): The Verdict

Fail to see the difference between Neto and Adama tonight, other than peoples preconceptions.
Really? Neto kept the ball, passed to team mates and created a chance. Traore ran into defenders repeatedly, missed a very good chance and got booked for petulant fouling.

Fabio was utter shit. Stop giving him a pass because you got all excited when we signed him.
I don't think he has given him a pass at all. He's not wrong in what he said really.

Stinkers
Fabio
Moutinho
RAN
Vitinha
Traore
WJ did nothing

Fabio needs to hit the weights this summer, for sure.

Kilman and RAN need to be eased back out the club.

Vitinha isn't an effing winger.

He was dreadful, again offered utterly nothing all game. It’s not his fault, but if we want to get into digging out players start there.

Since I can't reply in the other thread - when I posted that I think it'll be the end once the season's over, I mean I'm really starting to think Nuno will not be managing us next season.

I don't want to read too much into it and it's been done to death elsewhere so I will try not to rehash it here but he looks absolutely exhausted.

What is clear - and I'm basing this on more than tonight - is that a lot of change is needed. Like, a *lot*. Maybe more than most of us previously thought. Both in terms of personnel and how we play. There are very few things working at the moment, very few players playing well, and we never look cohesive or in control of what we're doing, even when we have a strong team out.
There's a big difference between looking tired and leaving your job. To be fair i'm tired when i get back from work in -3 deg.

If there was ever a game we needed to get out the traps quickly and impose ourselves on a saints team with fragile confidence it was this one. It was so inevitable that we wouldn't and handed the initiative to saints and let them build confidence

Really disappointing that. This was basically our season, there is nothing to play for in the league and we put in a showing like that against a team totally out of form.

Ruddy: A couple of good saves. Unlucky on the first goal. Absolutely shite on the second.

Dendoncker: Ridiculous ball back to Ruddy for the second goal, even allowing for the fact he should do better. Not much else of note.

Saiss: Probably our best player on the night, some top blocks at times.

Kilman: Get rid please, nothing like good enough. Played Ings on for the goal, way too slow in mind and body.

Hoever: He's a decent footballer but I don't know as a wing back. He can't cross for shit. I'd like to see him in a back three.

Jonny: Great to have him back, just standard Jonny. Obviously we need to build his gametime up.

Neves: Quiet game, didn't do much. Free kicks have totally gone to pot, never even looks like scoring these days.

Moutinho: Even quieter game, did even less (other than nearly giving away a pen).

Vitinha: He is a central midfielder. Stop playing him on the left or as a #10. I'm not going to judge him while we keep playing him out of position.

Gibbs-White: Decent, obviously should have had a pen but apparently they have now changed the VAR rules so you need to have your legs broken before they'll give you one. Linked the play well at times. Probably shouldn't have gone off.

Silva: Didn't impose himself at all. I can grant him time, that's ok, but at least have a go.

Ait-Nouri: I can't see anything there that's worth paying £20m for.

Neto: One great run from which we should have scored. Otherwise we hardly gave him the ball.

Adama: Crap. Didn't beat a single man and missed a sitter. Shocking performance.

José: His movement is absolutely dreadful. He doesn't ever show for the ball. Not a fucking hope we spend that kind of money on him.

Ultimately we cannot keep going through games with one shot on target. That was poor, as much as Moss has robbed us of a penalty.

If we could fast forward to August then that would be nice.
Largely agree:
Kilman seems to lack confidence as does Hoever - why?
Neves: What a waste of a free kick. Looked OK otherwise.
Moutinho: always a disaster waiting to happen. 45 minutes should be his maximum.
Silva: no support at all - still looked better than Jose. But surely they needed to play together for a period of time?
Neto & Traore: needed to come on after 45 minutes - the game passed them by.

Just really disappointed. As in the OP, our season is gone. The lineup and the performance weren't up to scratch.

Harsh but not keen at all on Vitinha. It's limited showings but on that basis he isn't worth the £20m. Not to mention, why spend that much on a player when it seems like the manager either doesn't know their best position or stubbornly refuses to give them a chance there?

He was indeed utter shit. I've said he's certainly not buying himself any patience, and we're not going to see anything other than a child that's out his depth for the time being, unless (maybe) he's played in a two. But at the same time, we know he can't do it at the best of times, so why put him though it when it's just Vitinha and MGW behind him? Rank bad management, and it's set all three of them up to fail.

Except this is his job, and he looks disengaged *while* doing it. And it isn't the first time.

Anyway, again, there's a whole thread on it so don't want to recycle it completely here.

What’s the alternative? He’s played plenty with Adama, Podence and Neto and looked the same as today. Give him a year and maybe considering him starting then.

It meant Southampton could play a high line knowing we weren't going to get in behind them which certainly didn't help matters

And when i'm at work it's my job too. Just pointing it out.

Would have been Bournemouth away next, great chance to make the semi final
